Rating: Summary: finger to the critics!! Review: Dont pay attention to what the critics say. This movie rocks! For all you people that missed a good Indy Jones type of movie, this is one for you. Great special effects, a somewhat great acting, its worth your investment.
Rating: Summary: Great DVD, fun movie! Review: Say what you will about the movie itself. It's basically an action film with great effects and some somewhat cliche humor. It's entertaining in any case. I got a prerelease version of the special edition DVD and was blown away. Not only is the DD 5.1 soundtrack excellent and the picture quality superb (even on a 56" set), but the special features are amazing. There's a commentary track for film geeks, a very long featurette on the making of the movie, including a lot of cool stuff about the ILM special effects, and practically a textbook-worth of egyptology that I haven't even gotten to yet. Total bargain, unless of course you hate these types of movies ;-)
Rating: Summary: A Great Monster Movie!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This was one of the best movies of 1999. It may have been a bit too formulaic for some reviewers but, guess what? That's how Hollywood works folks! That's right! The effects were very good and it was down right funny as well. Maybe it's just because I'm partial to monster movies. Maybe it's because I don't try to look too deep into a 2 hour sitting of scrolling pictures. Maybe it's because, and maybe you'll agree with me maybe you won't, it's just a freakin' movie folks!! This is a must see if you look at movies as a way to escape the every day hum and drum of life. If you are looking for a movie that speaks to you, try something with Shakespeare in the title and don't waste your time reviewing monster movies. If you think this movie is good also check out Deep Rising.
Rating: Summary: The worst movie since Ace Ventura Pet Detective Review: I've no idea how people rate this movie more than a single star. I heard about the special effects before I seen the movie and expected something impressive. What I got however, was terrible special effects that I could have produced on an Amiga 10 years ago (the beetles floating on top of the ground for example). OK the face in the sand was quite good, but that was it. It has none of the pace or humour of the Indiana Jones series. Anyone who's looking for a '90s Indiana Jones should wait for the fabled Fate of Atlantis.
Rating: Summary: No scares, no laughs, no fun. Review: For 2 hours I sat there, wishing that this movie would get better, but it never did. The "scary" bits were so contrived and cliched that I could tell exactly when someone was going to jump out of a coffin and yell 'Boo!'. The "comedy" in this film was completely unfunny, the acting was inept, the story would have been written better by any four year old, the script... well, let's just say that there wasn't a single thing I enjoyed in this film. All I have to say is, if you want to see a horror movie, see something like Night of the Living Dead, The Haunting (1963), or the original Mummy with Boris Karloff instead. If you want to see an adventure movie, watch Indiana Jones movies instead. If you want to see a good horror/comedy, see Dead Alive, Bad Taste or Evil Dead instead. In any case, this movie is inferior to them all. I would have given this film 3 stars if the mummy won in the end, and had killed those irritating excuses for a hero and heroine, but I guess this is one movie that doesn't deserve a happy ending.
Rating: Summary: Great entertainment, horrible history ! Review: Wonderful entertainment, lousey ancient history !Imhotep was a genius, not an "evil" genius. No evidence in the literature or archeology for the "evil" part.
Rating: Summary: Don't bother Review: I was very disappointed in this movie. Too many typical scenes, an unconvinsing villian, a screwball hero and idiots all around him. It was more like a national lampoon version. I did like the way the mummy traveled, but I wish the story was better, and I wish there was more real wonder and a thought-provoking plot.
Rating: Summary: Don't listen to what the critics said Review: The Mummy was the most fun movie in a very long time. I can't understand why the critics hated it so much. I remember leaving the movie theater and talking about it for a week, I even bought the book based on the movie. The chemistry between Rick and Evelyn(Fraser and Weisz) was just adorable and romantic. I think too many people went to this movie thinking it was going to be gory and incredibly scary--it was'nt. It was fun and funny and exciting. It was very much like an Indiana Jones kind of movie. Definitly 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: A superb action-adventure in the spirit of Indiana Jones Review: This movie is simply great. It has everything - romance, adventure and chills with a good sense of humor. Christopher Hannah is hilarious as Johnathon, and Rachael Weiscz is a welcome new star as Eve. You have to see this movie. You'll especially like it if you enjoy the Indiana Jones trilogy
Rating: Summary: Funniest Horror movie I've ever seen! Review: Okay, so the critics didn't really enjoy The Mummy. I can understand why. Not all of the acting is so great, the plot is very simular to Bram Stoker's Dracula, and some of the humor is a little cheesy. But that doesn't make it a bad flick. I thought that the humor and horror elements played well off of each other, the special effects were amazing, and the action sequences were flawless. To tell the truth, I would have given it five stars, except for my one small complaint. I really wish that at the end of the flick, The Mummy had actually won.
