Rating: Summary: Best Mummy Movie Ever! Review: This movie is the best ancient Egyptian mummy movie I have ever seen! I love the visual effects and the sound quality all wrapped up together with the special features. The movie is soooooo much better than the original mummy. The scarabs might creep you out a bit, it did that to me, but you'll really enjoy an airplane scene. The Mummy is the best movie to watch for DVD!
Rating: Summary: Egypt Review: Egypt to me has always been a place of mystery. This movie did not respect that aspect. After a grizzly murder scene and then a brutal battle scene, Brendan Fraser finally bursts onto the scene like a cowboy shooting in a Western. That was funny! Was I scared? No, not once! This was not a horror film in the true sense of the word. So, what kept my attention? The wonderful special effects were incredibly good. The thousands of beetles must have amused the animation crew for many, many hours! This movie brought up some of the historical aspects of Egypt, such as the fact that Hebrew slaves served the pharaoh's and that plagues were sent to Egypt in order to convince the pharaoh to let the Hebrew people go. It seems that the curses pharaoh sends the plagues this time around. Brendan Fraser acts as the guide who leads everyone back to Hamunaptra to find the lost treasures. What they find is a cursed city and a mummy who wants to be raised from the dead. Imhotep (the mummified priest who was in love with the pharoah's girlfriend and who dies a death by being eaten alive by flesh-eating beetles) then seeks to bring his dead girlfriend back to life and captures Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) to use her as a human sacrifice. ~TheRebeccaReview.com
Rating: Summary: bleh! Review: Words cannot describe my excitement for this movie. However, five minutes into the movie a feeling of dread fell over me. My girlfriend leaned over to me and asked, "Is this a comedy?" What happened here, this is supposed to be a horror movie, not a slapstick comedy. I enjoyed Steven Sommer's Deep Rising, but this is ludicrous. Fraser churns out the typical Hollywood tough guy character. Rachel Weisz, is nice to look at, but not to listen to. The special effects are decent enough, but they seem to be more important in the movie than the actual conflict. This came out the same summer as the awful Austin Powers 2, and the even worse Deep Blue Sea, t'was a bleak summer for me. If it wasn't for The Matrix, I would have given up on movies all together.
Rating: Summary: A pleasant swashbuckling surprise Review: I never saw this film in the theatre - thought it was going to be gory trashy slasher film from the melodramatic advertising and imagery. I mean the gaping mummy face they've chosen to plaster all over the marketing materials was shown in the movie once, very briefly in broad daylight. But after a friend played the DVD, I was so pleasantly surprised by the non-gratuitous violence, great visuals, and light banter. Seemed to borrow their characters and overall feel from Elizabeth Peters' novels (which I'd highly recommend if you liked this movie). Now i can't wait for the both sequel and prequel.
Rating: Summary: Really Awesome!!! Review: I really love this movie. I must have watched it over maybe a thousand times. It's completly action-packed and eye-popping scpecial effects!! It's a movie I will always enjoy. With great acting and great characters, this movie is really the best!!!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful movie, despite a few faults Review: "The Mummy" is a wonderful, suspenseful, adventurous, and romantic movie. It also turned the spark of interest I had in ancient Egypt into a full blown bonfire. Not to mention the movie is packed with gorgeous and fairly talented actors--such as Arnold Vosloo (who portrays Imhotep very well despite not speaking a word of English...or any other modern tongue...throughout the entire movie.), Oded Fehr, Brendan Fraser, and Patricia Velasquez (whose role was minor yet integral to the film). However, they could have spent less money on special effects and more on historical accuracy. There are several historical goofs...both subtle and glaring. I was a little put off when, after a lovely shot of the Giza Pyramids, a baritone-voiced narrator said that it was "Thebes." Other than that, I did enjoy it, and I recommend it to everyone. One more thing: It's not often that a story makes you want to root for the "bad guy". This one will...trust me! ;-)
Rating: Summary: Relive the terror with this feature filled horror/adventure! Review: This is a great featured DVD! It has tons of cool features. The best part that it is in full screen so that you don't have to zoom in on the DVD. It's about these egyptian explorers that accidently awaken the deadly mummy that was mummified years ago for killing his wive's father. Now, the mummy terrorises the town with plagues from hell and uses one of the female explorers to ressurect his wife. It's a good Horror classic with a little adventure thrown in. It has great special effects since the matrix. Buy it and you won't regret it!!
