Summary: Mummy & Mummy Returns Bundle?
Review: Well... Like all other 583 reviews say... It's an OK movie, good effects, acting was so-so... And if you get the Mummy on DVD, you might as well get the "Ultimate" edition! What's next? The "Super-dee-duper-Ultimate-Outta-Sight" Edition??? Why buy now, when in about 6 months, they'll have this one bundled with the 'Mummy Returns' DVD... <sigh> This DVD Edition stuff is just going way bananas...

Summary: Either you like it, or you don't
Review: The Mummy is one of those movies where either you like it, or you don't. For the most part I find people LIKE it. If you take it for what it is-A MOVIE, and not try to pull it apart by critizing "what a movie should be" then it is great! The plot more believable than Indiana Jones and it is ten times more fun. It has adventure, action, horror, romance, history(far fetched, but still), beautiful desert scenes and the cast does a fantastic job at their roles. I seem to find that the people who dislike the movie (wouldn't have bought the DVD anyway) are mostly dissapointed that the movie doesn't follow in the original mummy's footsteps. It is not a really scary horror film. I personally know someone who thought the movie was a horror film, rented it for that purpose and hated it because it didn't meet up to her "horror" flic standards. What is great about this movie is it adds the perfect amount of everything to make a very enjoyable movie. The movie isn't overly confusing yet you still have the option of keeping your brain turned on. The DVD has some very nice features. It gives you a nice background documentary on the making of the movie and some enjoyable egyptian mythology. If you are looking for a good saturday night movie this is definitly it.

Summary: Hollywood "Horror"
Review: I got you guys all figured out. You WANT to hear that this is a good, 4 or 5 star movie. A lemming has better taste when it comes to films, believe me. This movie can not compare to Stargate or Raiders of the Lost Ark. This movie is just another example that Hollywood prefers special effects over story. I was able to watch the whole movie without much trouble, but everything was so cliche and stereotyped. As far as horror, there was none--nothing on the point of burying your face in your hands. In my mind, a really good film is one that you remember a LONG time after you've seen it. Not so with this film. In fact, I only thought about writing this review because I heard that a sequel was coming out. Now the reason why I didn't give this movie one star was because there were a FEW parts that I found interesting. I thought that the use of mirrors for Egyptian lighting was pretty neat. Also, I liked the part where the different plagues happen again. But other than that, this movie doesn't have much replay value. Keep looking. Keep looking. You're life is too short to be spending it on movies like this . . . .

Summary: The Ultimate Edition is the way to go!
Review: Boy, was I surprised when I saw this sitting on store shelves. The first Mummy DVD was chock full of extras, but this is awesome. I was wondering if it was worth putting down ... extra ...($$) for it, so trust me when I say that this disc is worth owning for every possible reason. New Audio Commentaries by Brendan Fraser, and Oded Fehr(the leader of the magi), Kevin J. O'Connor(Benny), and Arnold Vosloo( the man himself, The Mummy). The Making of The Mummy. Egyptology 101. Deleted Scenes, Visual and Special Effects, Photograph Montage, Pharoh Lineage, and you get the traler for, not only The Mummy, but The Mummy Returns as well.Plus, an insiders look at The Making of the Mummy Returns. If you have a DVD-Rom drive you can watch a live webcast premier of The Mummy Returns, Script to Screen translations, Screen Savers, and a demo for The Mummy PC Game. So, all and all it is worth every penny. the new commentaries are great and now I can't wait to see The Mummy Returns. Did I mention that the movie itself is great too. Lots of good action scenes, great acting, terrific story, sweet visual effects, and a long run-time(2 hours 5 minutes) make this all the more worth buying. If you own the original Mummy DVD, buy this disc, If you don't own that one, buy this disc. With all it's got going for it, this is the edition to own.

Summary: Fair rendition of the Karloff classic
Review: This new version of the classic "The Mummy" is full of special effects which are nice, but I found the movie to be boring. The acting was just so so also. If you want the real thing buy the Karloff version of "The Mummy". Some movies you just can't remake!

Summary: Awesome DVD!!
Review: I had the original DVD of the Mummy and as soon as I found out that they were coming out with an Ultimate Edition, I immediately sold my old one and bought the new one. It's almost the same as the first DVD except that now there is a DTS soundtrack. There are a few other extras but for me the main reason to buy it was watching it in DTS. As far as the movie itself, yes its no horror movie, but it is a fun summer movie. Great action, great special effects and lots of laughs. Not a film to take seriously but a film to go in and have a good time, for me anyway. If you are a fan of the movie and you have a DVD player, this is a must get.

Summary: What do you expect...?
Review: If you buy/rent/watch this movie with the expectation of seeing something akin to oscar-bait, then you're going to be seriously disappointed. However, if you watch this movie with the only expectation of being entertained, I believe you'll really like it, if not love it. The script is a spinoff of the original Mummy, but with an updated theme -- and naturally with the new writer and director's personal touches. Since the basic plot and storyline have been covered by the editorial reviews and several personal reviews, I won't bother to repeat what they've already said. But, since so many people seem to have given this movie poor reviews because they (for some reason) thought this movie was going to be a duplicate of the original, even though it says everywhere that it's not (can they read?), I will reiterate this point -- Don't expect a clone of the original Mummy, because this isn't it. Watch the movie without any preconceived notions, and you'll probably enjoy it a lot more..... It's an adaptation of the original Mummy with basically the sameplot.... Aside from the opening scene depecting the French Foreign Legion preparing to do battle with the native troops (which, I will remind that poster, actually was something that happened frequently during the period of time the movie is set in!), the only "army" of "people" the main characters go about trying to destroy are mummies! So shouldn't that phrase actually be "defeating an army of computer animated (you know, not real?) UNDEAD"? And the last time I checked, "undead" wasn't really considered a race...

Finally, sure the script is a bit cheesy, but the fantastic special effects make up for its few shortcomings in my opinion, and the acting really isn't as bad as some people seem to have so harshly criticized. It's a fun movie, IF you'll allow yourself to enjoy it for what it is, instead of trying to compare it to what it's not -- i.e., the original Mummy or any Indiana Jones movies (which by the way, the original Mummy that this movie was based on was created LONG before any Indy movies). Once again, if you're looking for oscar-bait, this movie isn't for you. If you're looking for an entertaining way to spend an evening with a bowl of popcorn, then give The Mummy a try - you'll probably like it.

Summary: Audio Commentary Review
Review: The review by Oded Fehr, Arnold Vosloo, and Kevin J. O'Connor is wonderful and funny and full of great stories. Since I already own the first Mummy DVD, I am very upset this version has come out now and that it's great. Is it too late to return my old Mummy?

And the behind the scenes look on the upcoming Mummy 2 definitely has me salivating for the opening of that movie!

Summary: THE MUMMY DO-OVER!!??
Review: This brand new 2 disc set is pretty good but is it that much better than the "Collector's Edition" that was released some 18 months ago? I would have to say no. While the powers that be have added 2 brand new cast commentary tracks this time around (on the plus side) I think the went too far by adding info and spoilers on the sequel.(minus side). Missing from the previous version too, is the isolated film score track, with music by Composer Jerry Goldsmith. While I was watching the MUMMY RETURNS footage I did not care one way or the other. However, the more I thought about it, the more uncomfortable I became. It really had no place being there at all. The producers could have waited until that DVD is released down the road before giving us a featurette. I don't object to having plot points spoiled, what bothers me is the CHEESEY way that it was handled. I don't buy DVDs to watch "bloated" commercials. If you don't own THE MUMMY yet, this is the one to get. However. if you do own the other version and you want to see the new movie "unspoiled" then stick with that DVD or wait till after you have seen the new film and then you can make up your own mind about this "ultimate edition".

Summary: A lot of Fun
Review: This movie reminded me of the Saturday Matinees I went to as a kid. It was a lot of fun, bad guys you hated, a girl, and a hero. Throw all that together with some great special effects and it's a great ride, so sit back and enjoy.
