Summary: The script needed work.....
Review: Blade as he was originally created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, was more skilled in the art of destroying Vampires. In this movie he just uses a lot of guns and tons of real vulger language. David Goyer wrote a script that needed a lot of work to make Blade a more complex character then he is in this movie.
It's basically cardboard characters and lots of guns that try to make the movie, but it lacks in both substance, acting, and story plot.

Summary: Awesome beginning of the Superhero movie revolution!
Review: There has been a new push for movies adapted from comic books. As I am writing this, more than a handful of these stories are being prepped to hit the screen this summer. The Hulk, League of Extraordinary Gentleman and the sequel to X-Men are all going to be critic-proof blockbusters in the following months, and already there are sequels to SpiderMan and Daredevil underway. Another sequel that is being prepared is the third part in a trilogy of this Marvel character, Blade. In my opinion, this film was a quality product which set the stage for the comic book-movie revolution which is happening today.I enjoyed Blade very much. It was pure escapism filmmaking, and i loved every minute of it. The story of the hero (the title character played by Wesley Snipes), a sword weilding vampire slayer who is half-vampire himself, introduces the character as a fringe-dwelling outsider. His only pal is Whistler (Kris Kristofferson) who makes weapons for the vamp slayer. The movie's main plot reflects the two, with the help of a hemotologist (N'Bushe Wright) trying to foil the schemes of a vampire who wisher to unleash an apocalyptic force on the world. Okay, the plot sounds a tad hackneyed on here, but the film delivers with superb acting from the cast and decent special effects. High marks to Donal Logue as a lacky vampire especially, who plays each of his scenes with glee. But the best part of this movie is Stephen Dorff as the main villain Deacon Frost. The character comes off as a nihilistic punk who you truly feel has a reason for embarking on his nasty plan. Of course it isnt a perfect film. N'Bushe Wright, one of the two main females in the movie, isn't given much to work with. She has talent, but unfortunately is stuck with the films lamest lines. People criticize the films 'Matrix-esque' effects and stunts. And I felt it ended far to abruptly. But overall, this flick is worth a buy. This film was quite a success at the box-office, which gave the studios enough faith in comic-book adapted movies to warrant this one a sequel and the rest of the Marvel Comics properties. If you loved X-Men and SpiderMan, then Blade is the film to thank. Definately give it a chance!

Summary: A Dark, Satisfying Action Film
Review: What do you do to bring to life one of the more sinister comic book heroes ever? First, find the brooding, muscle-clad Wesley Snipes to portray the remorseless character, Stephen Dorrif as the ambitious, power hungry antagonist , the crusty Kris Kristofferson as the heroes supporter, and throw in the able directing of Stephen Norrington. You get "Blade," a fine action film which some fantastic action sequences (despite the spotty special effects) and a storyline that keeps you interested. The film follows Blade. A powerful, cold Vampire Slayer, played impeccably by the imposing Wesley Snipes, who does make all other ficticious Vampire Slayers (Buffy ect.) look timid by comparison. Blade himself is half vampire, who has all of their strengths (except slower aging) and none of their weaknesses (except their thirst for human blood). Blade is assited by his longtime friend, Whistler (Kristofferson) in his quest to rid the world of Vampires, humans who have certain genetic differences that makes them sensitive to sunlight, garlic and silver and an all powerful thirst for the blood of humans, the one weakness that tortures Blade, since he too has it. Blade slowly finds that a power hungry Vampire named Frost (the ruthless Stephen Dorrif) is forcing his way through the vampire ranks to become all powerful, i.e. more like Blade. None of the Vampire weaknesses will apply, and Frost will lead an army of willing vampires to dominate the human race. The kinetic style of Stephen Norrington is everywhere, as the film moves at a steady pace, smartly slowing down, and speeding up only when it needs to. And when it does speed up, look out. Snipes is given ample room to show off his martial arts skills against hordes of Vampires, and Norrington quick camera moves captures them in spectacular fashion. The headspinning climax of Blade battling Frost is a throat-grabbing tour de force, as can probably be said about the rest of the film.

Review: "Blade" is one of those movies that you would never think it was a superhero story. Well think again. Mots people don't know it, but Blade was a Marvel Comics superhero created by the same people who made Spider-Man, X-Men, The Hulk, etc. But there are reasons that people do not notice Blade as a superhero, it is because he isn't anything like the others. At all... "Blade" revolves around a world where vampires do not just exist, but have their own world. Once the sun goes down, their world comes out to hunt. But the entire vampire nation has a fear of one man. Blade is a man whose mother was bitten by a vampire while giving birth to him. He then becomes half human, half vampire. He has all of a vampire's strengths (Agility, the ability to heal himself) and none of their weaknesses (He can withstand sunlight, silver, garlic). He is the most feared man of the vampire nation. They call him "The Day Walker" due to the fact that he has no weakness to sunlight. Blade's goal is to rid the world of as many vampires as possible, and in the process, find the one who killed his mother and turned him into what he is. He does this with the help of his mentor, Whistler. The plot of the movie revolves around a vampire, Deacon Frost, who wants to prove that the vampire nation should be ruling the world and have complete control over humans. He then devises a plan to summon La Magra, the blood god. Anything caught in it's path will instantly be turned into a vampire. And Blade's blood is the key to making this happen. Filled with action, suspense, and drama, Blade is one of the greatest superhero movies around. Even if you don't think of Blade as a true superhero, you will enjoy this movie. "Blade" runs for about 2 hours. It is rated R for extreme violence, extreme blood and gore, strong language, mild drug content, and brief sexuality.

Summary: Blade Bites
Review: After watching the movie Blade, I've got to say that it, well, it bites. (Sorry, couldn't resist.) Wesley Snipes is buffed up, but with no place to go. I can't imagine a more one dimensional performance than the one he mailed in on this movie. Come to mention it, just about the entire cast seemed to sleepwalk their way through this. Stephen Dorff was the notable exception, with a solid and sinister performance. In defense of the movie, there are some very stylish camera work, such as the "bloody disco" scenes. Soundtrack pretty much rocks, and a nice use of Kung-Fu fight coreography and Japanese manga images help out. But still not enough to really recommend this movie as anything other than 2 hours worth of mind numbing fluff. Hey, I like sci-fi as much as the next person, probably a lot more than the next person, but this movie comes across as toothless.

Review: This movie was a feast for the action-oriented audience. Wesley Snipes was a great casting decision for the role of Blade. This marvel comic character turned live-action film star. This movie prides itself on its bloodbath scenes. If you like vampire movies and want better special effects than those cheap Sci-Fi films this is a great movie for you. I gave it five out of five stars because it gave me everything I expected from it.

Summary: Best Movie Based on a Comic
Review: I love this movie. It is about a vampire named Blade. He is half human and half vampire. He has all of the vampires' strengths and none of their weaknesses, except the thirst. He hunts vampires, because he hates them and you will find out why in the movie. There is lots and lots of action with a great plot. At first, I didn't know that this was based on a comic, and I was surprised that it was based on a comic, because of how well it was compared to many movies based on comics. The movie doesn't seem corny or nothing stupid. The movie is very believable and often thoughtful. I personally liked the movie the second time around more, because I could grip the plot and characters better. I have seen the movie probably around 10 times and the DVD has a good amount of features. It has commentary, alternate endings, deleted scenes, I think there about 4 featurettes, trailers, and a few more things I think. If you don't like it the first time, I strongly recommend that you come back and watch it again later, so you can get the story better.

Summary: Entertaining action movie from start to finish!
Review: Blade is an action-packed movie with lots of blood, gore, violence, and special effects. The opening sequence in the nightclub is excellent and the plot moves along nicely, never slowing down with some genuinely chilling moments and cool special effects. Wesley Snipes plays the part of Blade so good you never doubt his character. Also, Stephen Dorrf is excellent as Frost, the new leader of the vampires, and Kris Kristofferson makes a remarkably good performance as Whistler, Blade's human sidekick. The fight scenes in the movie were some of the best I have ever seen along with a tight soundtrack. The special effects in Blade are very good as is the art direction, set design and makeup. Overall an excellent action movie equipped with a good plot and an energetic screenplay. I would recommend Blade to anyone who likes action/horror movies with the DVD version being a must see due to the alternate ending!
