Summary: An unfortunate waste of time
Review: This movie was just plain sad, there is no other word for it. For starters, it was lousy that Roy Scheider's character was portrayed as a neurotic mess who had virtually be reduced to a joke and chew-toy for the local hierarchy.
Then again, he was a glutton for punishment staying on the island in the first place. If I were Brody, I would have packed my family up and moved as far inland as I could possibly manage after the first incident was resolved. Bottom line, though, this movie is [weak]. There is no other word for it. Scheider is the only redeeming feature, and even his efforts seem strained.
The shark looks as fake as they could possibly make it, especially after supposedly being severely burned. And a shark dragging a helicopter under the water? Please... Boats, yes. Choppers? I don't think so.
(Yes, I know they did it in Deep Blue Sea, but that was more technological error, and Jaws wasn't supposed to be a genetically modified monster)
Possibly the best scene was that of the younger Brody boy swimming for his life to get out of the water before the shark got to him but, honestly, I was cheering the shark on by then.
It's a very average movie as far as horror flicks go, and it isn't a patch on the original. Jaws 3 was better than this [poor] effort, even though some of the effects in that were a bit of a white-wash as well.
Still, it's passable as a way to spend a couple of hours - if you're really, _really_ bored....

Review: This was a good movie. I didn't understand how the shark could sink a helicopter and chase down a water skier. I thought this movie could have been better if Richard Drayfuss had been in it. I didn't like the kids go crazy when they ran aground. That part was pointless. They could have made the water redder when the shark killed and when he was killed. These were only suggestions, not complaints. Once again, it was a good movie.

Review: This is a great sequel to the best move ever made JAWS. Jaws two has solid acting and the plot is great. This is about some kids are going on a boat trip, and the fearce jaws ands there plans. Get this movie if you like JAWS.

Summary: Worthy of the name JAWS
Review: Yeah, the film is obviously flawed: It lacks the wit and tension of the original film, but what did you expect? It has no inspiraton to do anything out of the ordinary or new. It simply settles back into mold that JAWS created. But you wanna know what? It does so pretty darn well. The teenagers are definatly bearable, and the movie doesn't take their little "dating-game" lifestyles too seriously. And there are some pretty shocking shark attack scenes that terrify without being tasteless. The best one is ...[person]... death; a socking and disturbing attack accompanied by a tragic and Horrifying piece of John William's score. Ultimatly, the glossy DVD release with some good stuff on it make it worth the buy.

Summary: Pretty good sequel
Review: JAWS 2 is a fairly good film. It cannot compare to the original film, but it is certainly the best of the sequels. The plot is a bit stupid, reminiscent of a teen slasher flick; but instead of a masked killer we have a shark stalking the young teens as they head out to sea. The actors are very good, especially Roy Scheider who virtually saves the film, and the director manages to gives us some terrific action sequences. The cinematography is nice, and once again John Williams has written a superb score.
All in all a pretty decent thriller. If you like the original JAWS this should be a welcome addtion to your collection. But stay away from the 3rd and 4th installments.

Summary: Jaws 2 DVD is great with its visual extras, but the sound...
Review: Finally "Jaws 2" has been released back in its original 2:35 visual scope (Back during the '90's the film was available on laser disc in the 2:35 aspect ratio and there was also that lousy '80's pan and scan VHS transfer). Perhaps the most refreshing restoration of the widescreen exhibition occurs during the film's opening titles in which a massive school of scaley fish reflect beneath the surf from Amity Island's sun as the Blood Red "Jaws 2" title appears with John Williams soaring score! The downer of this disc is that the film has not been remastered in the delicate 5.1 Dolby Digital mix. Instead, Universal has kept "Jaws 2" in its original 2 channel monophonic sound which ruins the film's potentential sound effects and fresh Williams score. A film purist may indeed relish the MONO soundtrack because this is how director Jeannot Szwarc intended it to be seen back in the theatres of '78. However, there are ways to cheat the MONO sound if you have an elaborate home theatre setup and can be patient to tweak with the different variables/soundfields needed to capture an eveloping sound. One of the most enjoyable supplements on this disc are the "worn" looking theatrical trailers that are nostalgic to watch.

Summary: Just when you thought it was safe....Jeannot Szwarc's Jaws 2
Review: This is the only good sequel in the Jaws series. It is four years later and a girl is attacked on a boat that explodes. Cheif Martin Brody(Roy Scheider) once again becomes curious. Later, he finds an attacked whale and a woman's corpse. When the Mayor(Murray Hamilton) denies it, Brody is fired. The next day, Brody's two sons Mike and Sean, sneak out to go sailing with their friends. To help them, Brody gets on a Police Boat to rescue them. Then the teeens are attacked and it's up to Brody to save them..... You don't have to watch Jaws 3 and Jaws: The Revenge.

Summary: Not as good as the first, but fun to watch.
Review: As one reviewer pointed out, the film itself may not be the greatest, but there sure are a lot of extra features. The one I found to be the most interesting was the potrait of actor Keith Gordon.
While watching the film I realized that he looked familiar.
Gordon went on to star in two classic 80's films Christine and Back To School. Go grab this one now before it gets deleted. I had somewhat of a hard time finding a copy.

Review: Jeannot Szwarc's mecenary sequel is nowhere as good as Spielberg's original, but with such a high platform to go from, it's actually quite impressive. Roy Scheider returns as Cheif Brody and Murray Hamilton as the mayor for continuity, but Scheider dosn't bring the same strong emotions as the first, and it seems like everyone's just going through the motions. John William's memorable score is put through the re-tread, but still works well. Alike to James Cameron's Aliens, the monster is brought out of the shadows to terrifying effect, as we see the shark in full light. But the problem is, in the first one, there was a great ensamble cast of characters we liked and cared about, in this one, we couldn't care less, as a couple of boorish teenagers get picked off, and while the attacks are gruesome, they don't pack the same effect. Under a steadier hand, this might have been more enjoyable. But it's a lot better than the truly awful Jaws 3 and 4.
