Summary: DVD Review
Review: Despite being the best transfer of this film, the picture is still very grainy at times. Sound is not very good and Special Features are lacking too. There is no director's commentary and only a short collection of scenes w/o audio misleadingly dubbed "Behind the scenes". An old interview with Cameron is included, however it's still no substitue for a full-length commentary. Not to mention the crappy case. This movie deserves better. At [price] this DVD is seriously overpriced....
This is what "Aliens - Collector's Edition" should contain:

- New anamorphic transfer.
- DTS soundtrack
- Commentary by James Cameron, Sigourney Weaver, Michael Biehn and Bill Paxton.
- "Making of" documentary

Summary: Crawl Space
Review: Alien's is one of the most refreshing action film's that I've seen in a long time. It has all of the pieces needed to create a dazzling example of fine form and just plain slick wizadry.

Ripley awakens after being discovered in a decades old sleap. She is greeted upon awakening by "Mad about you" Paul Reiser, who shows he has more dirt under his fingernails than most think. After an entire colony of settler's disappear, Ripley is cohersed into returning to the planet which caused all of the problems in the first film. She goes on one condition: They don't go to study the Alien's (if there are Alien's), or to capture an Alien, but to kill them.

Once they land with a large crew of soldier's, they find the settler's are indeed missing, and they begin to find traces of resistances and soon discover that they are not the only ones alone on the planet. Bill Paxton is (unintentionally) hilarious as one of the soldier's, and has some of the more memorable quotes from the film:

"Game over man, Game over!"
"This can't be happenin', man, this can't be hapenin'."

Also, an absolutely touching relationship is developed between Ripley and a young girl survivor. This is one of the stronger point's that alone could have been the film's back bone, even without all the extra goodies. (Entirely overlooked in the next movie.)

What it boil's down to is a lot of fun, and a great dvd to add to your collection.

Summary: Still creepy after all these years!
Review: 15 years later, I am amazed that this movie STILL gets my heart racing and makes me want to sleep with the closet light on! I saw this at the theater when it first came out, and dozens of times since either on edited TV or VHS. The DVD edition is great! Not only is the sound and picture quality superior, but the previously deleted scenes fill in a few blanks that go unanswered in the original (I won't reveal for those who haven't watched this version). You don't have to be a "horror" movie fan to appreciate this DVD!

Summary: Science Fiction / Fantasy Doesn't Get Any Better Than This
Review: Without a doubt, ALIENS is one of the most popular, successful, and entertaining science fiction films to grace the silver screen.

This special edition contains footage edited from the original theatrical print for the sake of producing a flick that would play within a reasonable block of time (circa two hours).

Sigourney Weaver returns as Helen Ripley, willfully going back out into space to face her fears after being discovered in hibernation for several decades. Move over, Arnold Schwarzenegger ... Weaver's here!

CGI would've greatly enhanced some of the effects toward the end of the picture, which do appear to be obvious miniature and blue-screen effects ... but the images detract little from the overall wallop this flick packs!

Pop some popcorn, turn down the lights, sit back, and enjoy the thrills!

Summary: More, but not better.
Review: The DVD has 17 extra minutes you don't need to see, really.

The movie suffers from a explanatory sequence of what happened in the colony, that drains the tension and brakes the rythm of the story. In the original movie we cut from Ripley's deposition to her hand holding a burnt out cigarette at her apartment, then we are off to the colony without knowing what we will find, creating great suspense and a ghost town atmosphere when they arrive.

In the new version we are treated to a sequence that has so many flaws it looks like another movie altogether; bad acting, lousy explanatory dialogue, lame "modernized" costumes (like the ones used on Burke in the rest of the film) we get to know Newt's parents and her little brother, but they're so cartoony you're just glad they die, and then your ears encounter the first of Newt's annoying high-pitched screams, but with the added aggravation of no acting; she just opens her mouth and eyes very wide and howls like a test on your dolby system.

They should have kept this sequence as a "Deleted scene" on the side and not screw-up the movie for you. The rest of the new scenes are not as bad, but they just explain and explain and just cripple the story.

The DVD has little else to offer. Unlike the "Alien" DVD, which has a great commentary by Ridley Scott, "Aliens" has an old short interview with James Cameron and some home videos of the tests and making of models that are just barely interesting.

Summary: A Classic Sequel!
Review: This popular 1986 masterful Sequel to the 1979 Shock Classic is great, thanks to the brilliant director James Cameron ( Director of Terminator, T2 and Titanic). It's set forty-years after Ellen Ripley ( Weaver) who had a terrifying Experience with a certain creature and now comes back with a Marine crew to the same Planet but to wipe out the entire Race of those Pesky Blood-Craving Sons of B's including the Big one herself, The Queen Alien. It's got a neat score by Titanic's James Horner, lots of Action, thrills, chills and blood to keep you awake, own this DVD.

Other similar movies i would recommmend: The Thing ( 1982), Alien, Alien3, C.H.U.D., Total Recall and Starship Troopers.

Summary: an instant classic!
Review: One of my theories is that sequels are never as good as the original. Well, "Aliens" proved it wrong! James Cameron's 1986 sci-fi/action classic surpasses the original "Alien" by far, although the two cannot be compared. Why? Here goes: Ridley Scott's 1979 original was more of a horror film, rather than Cameron's sequel, which focuses more on action. And, boy, does it have action.
The story is simple: after 57 in hyper-sleep, Ripley (Sigorney Weaver, who earned an Oscar-nomination) is rescued from floating adrift in space by a team of scientists. Ripley is the only survivor of the first alien encounter, and is the only living human who knows of the alien's existance. Of course, her hazy employers of the Company don't believe her tale, because a colony has been thriving on LV-426 (the planet where we first encountered the alien) for years, and the people living there have never complained about anything. Considered a nutcase, Ripley is fired and is forced to live in isolation.
And then, trouble arises! Apparently, "all contact has been lost with the colony on LV-426," and sleazy Company executive Burke (Paul Riser) convinces Ripley to return to LV-426 to check it out. Oh, yeah, she'll be traveling along with a squad of space marines.
When they reach their destination, everyone in the colonty is, of course, dead--except little Newt (Carrie Henn), a child who has maraculously survived the alien's wrath. And it seems that the colony's processing station is being used by the aliens as a nest. In the first big action scene of the film, nearly all the marines are killed when they march into the alien nest, which ends in a fiasco. There's not just one alien . . . there's a whole colony! It is Ripley's worst nightmare.
Along with mothering Newt, falling in love with a marine (Michael Biehn), and battling those nasty critters, Ripley makes a startling discovery: sleazy Burke was planning all along to capture an alien specimen for the Company's Bio-Weapons Division (shades of Ash from the first film). And Ripley is determined to stop him.
By the film end, only a handful of our heroes survive. I must admit that going in, I wasn't expecting a good movie, but Cameron proved me wrong . . . again.
"Aliens" boats amazing special effects, along with James Horner's intriuging score. Also, Weaver's acting has improved greatly since the first film, and she delivers one of her strongest performances. And the all-female fight scene at the end is worth seeing twice.
All in all, "Aliens" is a classic sci-fi/action movie, with plenty to offer in entertainment. Thank you, Mr. Cameron.

Summary: sci fi classic is timeless on dvd
Review: What can you say about aliens apart from what most people already know...SCI FI/ACTION CLASSIC...We all know the story, and the disc is the extended cut which adds to the story even more. The only downside is the pictures quality wavers between good and then grainy for some reason. Also extras are quality.

Summary: A white knuckle sci-fi maserpiece.
Review: It's a stand out in the muddled world of sci-fi and action films. The extra footage is worth viewing, but just to have it on DVD was enough for me.
