Rating: Summary: An astonishing DVD. Review: Truly amazing. Not only has Warner Bros. managed to present a gorgeous presentation of the film, but they've packed in a great BBC documetary and 2 audio commentaries that are a must for admirers of this work.
Rating: Summary: The Key to "The Exorcist": What is UNSEEN Review: For me, the best (and most frightening) part of "The Exorcist" is that it attacks your subconscious like no other movie ever made. The physical change the girl undergoes is nasty enough (as are the flashes of the demon face), and the exorcism scene is indeed brutal. But the scariest scene of the entire movie (for me) takes place after Fr. Karras visits Reagan for the first time. As Lt. Kinderman watches him leave, he looks up at Regan's window--and her figure (through the curtain) is seen floating around the room, even though just a moment earlier we saw her bound to the bedposts! Made me wonder what went on in that room when no one was there with her/it. It's little touches like that send shivers up my spine. No horror film has ever been as "complete" as this one.
Rating: Summary: I watched this movie at my friends house and it scared me Review: My friend asked me if I wanted to watch the Exorcist.I said sure.So I watched it and that part where Satan was cousin out Jesus and she had that cross where she was stabbing it was sickning. Then where Satan made her head turn all the way around was scary. Then she made the door shut and shelf keep the door closed was very scary. Also the guy that was talking like satan in the vocals was very good. This movie is the best horror movie I'v ever seen. The part where she spewed acid happened at a fast action was really good. That movie was really good!It makes you want to sleep under your blanket at night for a few days!
Rating: Summary: There will never be another film that can compare. Review: There can not and will not ever be another horror film more terrifying than the Exorcist.Still to this day it can scare it's audiences ; be young or old.It will always stand as one of the GREATS.
Rating: Summary: A TRUE HORROR MASTERPIECE !!! Review: I TREATED MYSELF TO OWNING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL EDITION FOR CHRISTMAS. I WAS UTTERLY FRIGHTENED AND AMAZED AT THE DOCUMENTARY, BEHIND THE SCENES INFO. AND THE ORIGINAL TRAILERS FOR THE FILM. THIS IS THE VIDEO TO OWN, IF YOU ARE CONVINCED THAT "THE EXORCIST" IS THE BEST HORROR FILM EVER MADE. THE SPECIALLY REMASTERED FILM IS A BRILLANT. THE SOUND IS SHARPER AND THE VISUALS MORE DRAMATIC. I SUGGEST THE ADVICE GIVEN IN THE VIDEO BY DIRECTOR WILLIAM FRIEDKIN,"...TURN DOWN THE LIGHTS ... TURN UP THE SOUND AND ENJOY 'THE EXORCIST'."
Rating: Summary: Disappointing re-release. "D-" at best. Review: Being an Exorcist fan for over 20 years, I had waited anxiously for The Exorcist 25th Anniversary Edition. Unfortunately upon watching the tape, I found myself angered that Warner Home Video didn't care enough to place a knowledgable team who completely knows this film in charge of the video's production.First of all, the "3 original trailers" boasted on the video's packaging is incorrect. The very first trailer (which yours truly saw in 1973) isn't on the tape! Furthermore, one of two (yes "two" not "three") trailers is actually a trailer from the 1978/79 rerelease! Additionally, there were television spots from 1973/74 which were different than the theatre trailers that Warner could have used (I suspect they don't even know these TV spots exist), but did not. Secondly, when the film was rereleased in 1978/79 (I saw this rerelease the day Dawn of the Dead was also released) it deleted what I feel to be a crucial few seconds from the movie: the scene after Father Merrin exits the cab and looks upon the house with light shimmering from Regan's bedroom, you see the posessed girl's face morph into a chalk-white vision seen only in Damian Karras' dream earlier in the film. Originally, this face contorted and showed the gastly vision for quite a few moments. In the rerelease, the film cuts this scene down to just a brief transformation before it quickly cuts into the next scene where Mrs. Macneil opens the door for Merrin. Perhaps the only positive aspect about this video is the BBC "Making of" documentary. Although quick and concise, it doesn't go into specific detail on aspects like Lee J. Cobb's death, other unused footage of background characters (servants Karl and his wife had a drug addicted daughter in the novel; supposedly some of this was filmed), and other tidbits for those who want to know all-things-Exorcist. Sadly,Warner even replaced the film's original, black-and-red opening "Warner Communications Company" introduction to its new "Warner Home Video 75th Anniversary" design, robbing the initial sinister mood the original credits had created. Anyway, watching this as a regular movie is fine. But to people who are genuine Exorcist collectors, it is a disappointing effort.
Rating: Summary: blood-curdling, bone-chilling: guarenteed to scare! Review: Never before have I seen such a graphic and detailed film. While the main purpose is to scare the living daylights out of the viewer, this movie can also be an interpretation of overcoming our own personal demons which haunt our lives. The sound, makeup, and special effects all turn a normal and charming preteen into the most horrible creature ever seen on the big screen. This movie is a one of a kind thriller: it is the only film that I can admit completely horrified me.
Rating: Summary: It's the scariest movie I have ever seen Review: I think that the exorcist is the scariest movie ever. The first time I saw it I was so sacred I was afraid to go to sleep so I just stayed up and watched funny cartoons. I haven't seen this movie for about five years. I am thirteen and I am still afraid to watch it. I think the movie has pretty good effects like when Reagan(Linda Blair)turns her head all the way around and starts talking. The movie has alot of swearing and kind of nasty scenes which I think are really cool. In my opinion this is a kick ass movie!
Rating: Summary: Horror at its chilling best. Review: An original horror film that scared me to the bone. While not as graphic as contemporary horror films it still ranks as the best of its genre.
Rating: Summary: Caza@netscape London, England 13 yrs. old Review: I know that everyone thinks that the exorcist is the best film ever made, but now I have seen it, I think that it is complete & utter CRAP!!! I was really looking forward to seeing it because of what I had heard about it, but when I finally saw it, I found it disappointing & not scary at all, and I saw the uncut version and I am only 13!!!
