Rating: Summary: A CLASSIC! Review: This classic is the main reason i bought my player. If your a fan of horror movies then you HAVE to get this flick! Besides being scarier than hell it has some scenes that were deleted from the original. Including an awesome scene of Linda Blair doing a "spider walk" down the stairs. The quality & sound is amazing. The "extra features" are cool! It's not for the weak at heart but if you like to be scared, this movie delivers!
Rating: Summary: 25 years later and it still has the power to scare me silly! Review: I remember back in 1973 when I first saw "The Exorcist" at the drive-in with my mom and dad; I had trouble for weeks going to sleep and even then I had to have a night light! Now, 25 years later, this one movie still has the power to produce in me disturbing dreams whenever I watch it. The horrific images of the possessed Regan McNeil forever seared into my consciousness aside, one truly heart-grabbing scene between Chris McNeil (Ellyn Burstyn) and Father Karras (Jason Miller) when Chris implores Karras to "help her, please help her!" (referring to Regan) and disolves into a sobbing heap. Chris' agony is so palpable at that moment, that anyone watching the movie will feel the despair, the sense of powerlessness one feels when faced with the unknown; one also feels the unbending iron will of Father Merrin (Max von Sydow), commanding the demon to "BE SILENT!" when it began spewing obscenities at him. William Friedkin's frightening, disturbing vision that is "The Exorcist" continues to haunt the dreams of a new generation of movie-watchers. It is definitely one movie to watch with ALL the lights in the house on!
Rating: Summary: The most thought provoking film of all time. flawless. Review: It is hard to imagine your favourite film being any better after you've seen it in the cinema six times and read the book even more, but rest assured it does. I believe that your favourite film has to be a very personal choice. It has to force emotions that you havn't felt before to be felt. It has to be filled with a plethora of detail. Finally, above all else, it has to change you. The exorcist does this and more. A film buff's christmas and then some. Nearly every scene has the power to either seriously disturb you or feel spiritually uplifted. Karras's dream, karras's mother on the bed in place of regan, the desecration at the church, merrin watching the dogs fighting are to name but a few scenes that are disturbing, yet compellingly watchable. In all a cinematic tour de force and on DVD you'll think you've died and gone to heaven (or hell).
Rating: Summary: Will never be beaten in the scare department,Friedkin to a T Review: I watched this film in a cinema when I was 17 on my own and I was frozen to my seat! Can't be beaten for horror, the truth never could be! Friedkin leaves nothing out and that's the way it should be. If you don't like those censor chaps then watch this film.(Alone, if you dare!).
Rating: Summary: Still a very scary movie! Review: In 1973, this movie was reportedly the most graphically horrifying film ever in wide release. For todays' teen-gorefest set, it may prove to be a disappointment, however. "The Exorcist" is far more cerebral than most contemporary horror films, relying on suspense to shock its audience rather than visual effects. Even after seeing this movie countless times, the part that still spooks me the most is in the beginning, when Fr. Marron is examining an ancient artifact.....and the clock on the wall stops!! Hmmmmmm. Good one for a stormy, lonely night!
Rating: Summary: BUY IT NOW!!!!! Review: This has got to be the one of the best DVD's out there. #1. It's a classic horror flick. #2. It's got more options then I can even think of. #3. Bottom line.....if u like horror flicks and own a DVD....what are u waiting for???
Rating: Summary: the Exorcist:A VERY great film Review: The Exorcist is no doubt in my top 10 favorite movies of all time. It is well directed and well acted with a splendid musical score. It's kind of scary, and the behind the scenes bonus at the beginning of the film is really cool too. Buy this movie Bill Robinson Genius at Work
Rating: Summary: Liked it so much I watched it again Review: Well what can I say. Thought it was a good film to watch. Not as good as I thought it would be. People say it is really scary. I do not think any of it was scary. I myself thought some of the film was Boring and hard to get into. The best part of the film is the last 10 Min's or so when you see the fight between good and bad. The film had so many good actors so it could have been more better. I really do not see how it could have frighten anyone really. But all in all It's a good film to watch and It's well worth watching
Rating: Summary: Intensely powerful yet ulitmately flawed Review: Upon first viewing of the Exorcist, following it's unfortunate and ridiculous ban, I felt that this was a horror film beyond comparison; powerful, disturbing and intelligent. After subsequently reading and re-reading Blatty's novel however I feel that this movie should have been lot better than it actually was. Although Blatty's screenplay is still excellent and is portrayed brilliantly on screen, important motivations, character analysis and indeed dramatic build-up are inexplicably jettisoned from the original story. As a result no one but the most hard core of fans could ever deny that the book is infinitley more absorbing, disturbing and downright scarier than the movie version. This is not to downplay the movie though, which is indeed a prime example of the power of the medium and a shining star in a genre being slowly killed by poor imitations of 70's classics and contemptuous, though entertaining, "self referential" horror. Hinged on excellent performances from Jason Miller, Max von Sydow and Linda Blair The Exorcist tells the tale of the possession of a 12 year old girl and the search for God in an increasingly cynical world. The film will challenge your belief in the afterlife, in God and the Devil, Heaven and Hell but goes much further than mere theology. By having a 12 year old girl as it's protagonist the film tackles such grounds as the loss of innocence, of sexual maturity, and ultimately the battle for the soul. This is a film that will make you think, that will disturb you and in my case will keep you awake at night. But it is by no means anywhere near as good as the book, and you can't help but feel that if Blatty had retained more control over the finished product and included more of the novel within the script, this would have been an absolute masterpiece.
