Summary: He'll tear your soul apart.
Review: Having made his reputation as one of the most prolific and gifted horror writers of his generation Clive Barker made a natural transition to movies with this audacious directorial debut from 1987. Not only did Barker serve up a chilling tale of devilish originality, he also introduced new icons of horror that since have become as popular among genre connoisseurs as Frankenstein's monster and the Wolfman. Foremost among these frightful visions is the sadomasochistic demon affectionately named Pinhead. Pinhead is the leader of the Cenobites, agents of evil who appear only when someone successfully solves the exotic puzzle box called the Lamont Configuration-a mysterious device that opens the door to Hell. The puzzle's latest victim is Frank, who now lives in a gelatinous skeletal state in an upstairs room of the British home just purchased by his newlywed half-brother who has married one of Frank's former lovers. The latter is recruited to supply the cannibalistic Frank with fresh victims, enabling him to reconstitute his own flesh but will Frank succeed in restoring himself completely? Will Pinhead continue to demonstrate the flesh-ripping pleasures of absolute agony? Well find out by watching this classic horror flick alone in the dark. Promiss it'll scare you. If it doesn't you're already dead.

Summary: The Best of the series!
Review: The idea of Clive Barker's Hell here is based loosely on the "Buddhist" hell! where humans can turn into demons!!!! this film has some Very disturbing imagery and a Very Zen type of feel to it! not really a "scary" film per se, however the atmosphere makes it come off as creepy. A Very well made Horror film! the Best in the series!

Summary: Hellraiser
Review: Hellraiser is a surprisingly entertaining film. The production values of its time far surpass most other flicks in its genre, making it a very unique movie during its time. Unfortunately, Hellraiser is somewhat dated, as its numerous sequals demonstrate with enhanced special effects and CG. Hellraiser will remain a classic, but it should be considered for a re-make. With recent technological developments, it would be an excellent creation.

Summary: Pretty good, but not the best
Review: This WAS a great way to introduce Pinhead and the Cenobites, but the story sadly focused FAR too much on the romance between Uncle Frank and Kirsty's stepmother. However, the BIG redeeming factor is- without the first flick, you'll never understand Hellbound, which was one of the two best Hellraiser flicks.

Summary: A TRUE CLASSIC!!!
Review: Hellraiser is a true classic. This is truely one of the most original horror films around. Forget some of the horror films out today, quite frankly they don't cut it for me. Hellraiser is a highly original, scary, exciting film. This should be in any horror fans collection. There's something special about 'Hellraiser'. Out of all the years I've constantly watched 'Hellraiser', it's never lost it's appeal to me. There's a high originality about it. The story line between the Cenobites and the Puzzle Box(the lament configeration) are compellingly mesmerizing and so fasinating. A definite must have for all horror fans. The musicial score by composer Christopher Young is compelling and mesmerizing. It makes it each scene more memorable. The extras on the DVD are what the real fans have been waiting for. The commentary track by Clive Barker, Ashley Laurence and Pete Atkins is superb(it's one of my favourite commentary tracks), the featurette is excellent and informative in the process of the film. There's a nice photo gallery and a trailer, and I love the menu on the DVD. This a excellent movie that every horror fan must see and own. by Justine Ryan

Summary: About as Scary as Horror Can Be
Review:

As we all know, most horror movies are sufficient to scare you up until about age 10. After that, most horror is cliche-ridden gorefest shot full of plot holes. Hellraiser, however, is a story that can still scare the [life] out of you no matter what you've seen.

The movie is a masochistic nightmare wrapped around lust, innocence, evil, and bravery, with some inter-dimensional exploration on the side.

The FX are a bit dated for the 21st century, but since they add to the story instead of replacing it you can forgive them. Makeup art on the Cenobites, however, is fantastic. Almost any movie fan has to recognize Pinhead, who was made an instant horror icon by this great film.

If you don't mind blood and like a good scare, grab Hellraiser before anything else on the horror shelf at you DVD rental store. Thanks Clive Barker! Good job.

Summary: Hellraiser: One of the Best Horror Flicks
Review: This movie is maybe my favorite horror movie. It's first in line for me. This movie isn't for the squeamish because it's very gory (with a lot of hook action). Doug Bradley portrayed Pinhead with great excellence. I also loved the Chatterer cenobite. Clive Barker has written and directed this film with great power. Right now I'm going to put in order my favorite horror flicks. You'll probably agree with me on how I put them:
1. Hellraiser
2. Halloween
3. A Nightmare on Elm Street
4. Texas Chainsaw Massacre
5. Friday the 13th
Mind you I'm speaking of the original films. So if you want gore, some nasty looking beings, and a good story, you're gonna love Hellraiser. And for all you non horror movie fans, get a copy of Freddy's Dead (IT (...) THOUGH). See ya. 3/16/03

Review: Ok I know everyone has thier own point of view on scary movies..Here's mine.
Pinhead scared the living daylights out of me. Clive Barker is a master Of Horror. This Movie left me driving around after leaving the theatre trying to get my mind off of it. HA! that doesnt happen often! I am not scared easily. Worth the watch!
If gore is not what you seek...this movie is not for you!

Summary: "Jesus Wept"
Review: I know, I know, there is about 100 reviews on this movie already, but I decided to pay respect to where it is due. This is one of the VERY few horror movies out there you can watch over and over again. Thing I always liked the most about this movie is in fact it is a twisted love story. Just when you think there is nothing in the world more evil than Frank, and that the movie cannot get any sicker, then pinhead is in your face! This movie is like an orchestra building up to final disaster, ultimate horror, love it, own it, buy it here!
