Summary: Not a bad little horror flic but looking increasingly dated
Review: I saw this film when it first came out in '84, and at the time it was a well done, if slightly cheezy, horror flic. Having just re-visited the film in '99, I think it stands more now as a benchmark on how far film production standards and special effects have come in the intervening 15 years. I couldn't help but noticing how primitive the puppetry and visuals were in the this movie, especially in the 'climatic' ending in the department store. The scenes with the gremlins had lost their ability to scare, and with that the ability to lose oneself in the story. Instead, I found myself analyzing the puppetry or how the scene was shot. Indeed, I almost expected that at any minute there would be a voice over with the narrator intoning how this puppet, or that dolley, was used to achieve the shot. The moment a film loses the ability to suspend disbelief, it moves to the realm of archives and filmography.Overall, an OK film that might serve as an archival piece in the history of special effects in horror films, but in an era of advanced CGI, it appears as a dated and almost amateurish effort to scare. 3 out of 5 stars.

Review: I saw this movie when I was about 8 years old, and the father dressing up as Santa Claus and getting stuck in the chimney gave me nightmares for months afterwards. I could never watch it again!!

Review: "Gremlin rag" is very funny. It was unforgetable theme to me when I was a little boy. I still remember that funny score, and I always want to buy it. Now, I bought it few mouth ago, and it become my treasure... I recommend it to everybody.

Review: If you get a chance to watch this movie, do! It's really a great movie, but it scared me to death the first time I saw it. I was about 6 years old, and my mother thought it'd be a cute movie, so she made me watch it, even though I'd seen the green monsters on the previews. My most vivid memory of this movie is when the guy is searching for a bandage and Gremlins are popping out of the cabinet. At that point I ran from the room screaming and had at least 8 nightmares that night. Now I've grown to love it.
