Summary: The end of Carpenters career?
Review: If this simply atrocious film doesn't mean the end of Carpenter's days as a director, then Hollywood is in worse shape than I thought. As much as I hope that Carpenter can score with a comeback film that manages to capture the cinematic magic that made some of his earlier films so compelling, I have to say that he's running out of time. Not only is "Vampires" a perfect blend of shoddy editing, muddled sound mixing, amateur acting, and awful camera work--the story itself is a mish-mash of every vampire film in the past ten or so years. Everything from the brilliant "Near Dark" to the vapid "Lost Boys" to the stupifyingly bad "From Dusk Till Dawn." For God's sake, don't waste your money on this junk. Check out "Near Dark" instead.

Summary: A definite bomb. Only James Woods is worthy of praise.
Review: An utter disappointment. A bomb. There's no other way to describe John Carpenter's Vampires. Carpenter isn't one of my favorite directors but I've before Vampires, I've seen five of his films and I enjoyed three of them. Halloween was a creepy slasher flick that took more scares from implicit violence, The Thing was a creative special effects sci-fi thriller, They Live was a paranoid action thriller, and Big Trouble in Little China was a hilarious action-comedy.

Watching Vampires, I was hoping for the scares of Halloween, the edge of your seat suspense from The Thing, and the action of Big Trouble in Little China. Instead, Vampires exceeded in explicit violence and gore, had little action and the suspense was nonexistent. The only thing noteworthy of this film is James Woods, who delivers an over-the-top performance as vampire slayer Jack Crow.

Summary: Great Horror Film
Review: It was a great film. I really don't like movies like this, but this one was awsome. James Woods is the best.

Summary: What to say, what to say...
Review: I saw this movie for the first time not becasue I like John Carpenter but becasue it is a Vampire story. The story itself was fairly interesting and I think that any vampire fan would enjoy this movie very much.

***A WARNING***

While I said that this movie is good, it is also VERY, VERY GORY. I had read that people who saw the movie "Blade" thought it was the goriest thing they have seen in their lifetime. I thought that the gore in "Blade" was absolutely nothing. This movie is something, trust me. This movie has everything, decapitations, neck-breaking, bisections and MUCH MUCH more all the while the blood is spewing. So please keep this in mind before you view this movie.

Summary: Great movie!
Review: I really enjoyed this movie, it was kind of gory, but if you're up for a cheap thrill-movie, this could be a good one for you if you're a vampire fan! Lots of action, even a happy ending--provided you're not a vampire!

Summary: One of the worst movies I have ever seen
Review: I loved vampire movies before I came across this one. I liked John Carpenter's movies and J. Woods as an actor but... I would rate "Vampires" as a B movie for the luck of C. Bad acting, no story ... For a great Vampire movie look into "Interview With the Vampire"

Summary: Most Excellent Vampire Film!!!
Review: Some of you are giving this film a hard time. When fewer and fewer vampire films are coming out I think we should give them a chance. This film is excellent. James Woods was COOL. The storyline was awesome. The vampires were great. The FX were great and the action was rad. I especially liked the way the vamps were dragged out into the sunlight. Give the movie a chance. I liked it a lot.

Summary: John Carpenter is the man
Review: Vampires isn't just a great action/horror film. It is more proof that John Carpenter was, is, and always will be, the king of Horror. Not since THE THING have i been so impressed with a horror movie. The vampire scenes are excellent and the gore is pretty extreme. It also does something not often seen in vampire movies. It blends the old fashioned western with modern day horror. This is like THE WILD BUNCH meets FROM DUSK TILL DAWN. If you ask me, I think that JOhn Carpenter should do a REAL sequel to FROM DUSK TILL DAWN instead of the direct to video garbage that we had to settle for. James Woods plays a real bad character and Robert Patrick only wishes he could do the same. I mght add that this movie isn't for everyone. If you are looking for the gothic vampires, look elsewhere. This was an incredible flick and i'm looking forwars to a sequel.

Summary: Carpenter did great with the script he was given
Review: this would have been an awesome movie if only there weren't so many shots of people (especially woods, baldwin, vamp-man valek) looking like B.M.F.s that was the only problem i could really see in it. you could probably find 15 minutes of B.M.F. shots where you just see the character slouched back or standing fully propped up and tough. they even walk like B.M.F.s

my friends and i really enjoyed this movie even though if you see "in the mouth of madness" you'll realize john carpenter is better then this movie lets you think. vampire movies are becoming so passe. they even have to get rid of the old stereotypical vampire weaknesses to make them stronger.

i just hated every second it showed a character sitting there like a bad-a$$. it's convincing enough that they are vampire exterminators and bad-a$$es with out having ot show how cool they look. it looked like the marlboro man revived. whoever wrote the screenplay has some serious problems with the catholic church. hey no problem if thats your thing but it seemed like there was an underlying theme of hatred towards it. i don't get why if crosses and religous relics had something to do with the vampires creation that it would have no effect on them in hunting for them.

I did like some of the methods they used to kill the vampires. some of them seemed to be to time consuming and it would have been easier to do it another way but man did it look cool when they pulled them out of the house. th effects were so neat to especially when valek first gets to the door. and takes that dude out with his bare hands. very gory very gross. but such a neat special effect. (if you saw the movie you know exactly which one i'm talking about)

enough of my endless chatter.
