Rating: Summary: Somewhat amusing, but too silly. Review: Apparently, Peter Berg stars as a college football star whose foster family is killed by Horace Pinker, a deranged killer who worships television. When Pinker is executed, his soul continues to survive in the form of electricity and he travels from body to body. Fun core idea from the mind of Wes Craven really goes nowhere, and though it's all watchable, it's not a very satisfying experience.
Rating: Summary: Soak the sponge, and strap him down! Review: Capital Punishment has always been a sensitive subject in the movie industry. Speak in favor of it, you alienate one audience - speak against it, alienate another. Wes Craven's "Shocker" decides (wisely) to walk the fine line between the two viewpoints. Yes, the electric kills our most evil criminals, but it doesn't kill them all! Horace Pinker (Skinner from "X-Files") is sent to the electric chair, but this serial killer has other plans! Horace uses electricity to come back from the dead and carry out his vengeance on the football player (Peter Berg) who turned him in to the police. By traveling through electrical wires, Horace Pinker knows no boundaries - he is THE SHOCKER! PIVOTAL SCENE: When Pinker and Peter Berg fight *inside* a television set, and jump from channel to channel. Brilliant! Backed by Megadeth's admirable cover of Alice Cooper's "No More Mr. Nice Guy", this movie succeeds in every way that "The Green Mile" failed.
Rating: Summary: not the right soundtrack Review: cd was not what I thought it was.CD was an instrumental cd..I want the real sountrack..with the songs from alice cooper, and dudes of wrath..ect...can anyone help me?
Rating: Summary: I doubt ill ever see worse Review: Could this film have been made any worse?I think not.Its just way too funny to be considered a horror.I dont think i have ever laughed at a film as much as i did at this one when its not supposed to be a comedy.First of all the acting is bad, except Horace Pinker(what a name!) but his acting was only average everyone else was simply just picking up the pay check and i suppose most of the film was just bad until..they went into the Television.I have never, ever seen anything as bad as that before in every film i have every watched and i have seen every Death Wish film and 'The Killer Klowns from Outer Space' which are very bad but no where near as bad as this. Theres a part in the T.V scenes when they are in a 1950s film and they are fighting and looking in a car, all i can say is how bad it looked and when they are jumping around when there 'in' a Vietnam movie as if they are being blown up or something.I had only laughed a bit at this film before those scenes starting but when they did i couldnt stop.Hilarious!
Rating: Summary: Pre X-Files (Skinner) Review: Even though it has a B-movie feel to it, I had fun watching it. I recommend this movie to any one who is a fan of the X Files and/or Mitch Pileggi. Timothy Leary gives a great cameo in the film.
Rating: Summary: The Movie Isnt As The Name Says!!!! Review: Even with the title SHOCKER, it has nothing to do with the rating of the film! I like it. Sure, it's not the best thing Wes Craven has done, and it's very hard to scare me at all, and nothign about this film is scary to me, probably not to anyone else either. But I think it is a pretty cool movie.Horace Pinker I think his name is? Is played by the bauld guy from X-Files (Skinner) who is a phychopath, killing not just people but entire fammilys, and some how a kid is having dreams of seeing him doing the murders, and eventualy helps in the capture and arrest of Horace. But Horace has made a pact with the devil or somthing? and when Horace is sent to the electric chair, it dont kill him. Horace becomes a ....well, a spirit type/electrical/ghostly kind of monster who has the ability to jump into other peoples bodys! Which pre-dates that idea in "Jason goes to hell" But the cool stuff is the FX, there not super great, but there fun to watch as Horace is able to get into TV's and shows and things. I really think it's a pretty funny horror-ry/comedy. It probably wont be for all tastes, I really like the soundtrack in the movie too. bit of Hard Rock and Metal went pretty good with it. I'm not sure if i'd recomend it to you or not? If you havent seen it, and happen to see it , then I urge you to consider giving it a glance.... But I guess it depends on everyones personal likes and dislikes really. The bonus features are nothing to praise. Just some production notes, biographies, and trailers... be cool if there was some deleted scenes or somthing? even an Audio commentary maybe? But if you wanna see a slahery kind of flick that isnt just a mistery guy walking around cutting people up, and want to venture to a funny sort of wacko who becomes an electrical ghost type of guy, then give it a rent if you can find it?
Rating: Summary: Could have been beter Review: I have taped this movie because i'm a Horror fan. I loved the parts when the killer gets electricuted and then he turns into a ghost who can go into peoples body and control them. It is scary to wach for the first time. It has lots of blood in it and that's mainly the reason i like Horror movies. If you love Horror movies, i'd recomed this to you. Its not the best, but give it a chance.
Rating: Summary: Evil Skinner+recycled Craven plot=bad horror film jackpot Review: I imagine that every so often, when he remembers that he starred in "Shocker," Mitch Pileggi has to excuse himself and go sob quietly in a corner. It's okay, Mitch. We forgive you. You've redeemed yourself ten times over as Skinner on XF. Wes Craven recycles a bit of his "Nightmare on Elm Street" plot (our hero's dreams lead him to the killer) in this perfectly dreadful film. Any hope that the premise might have had is dashed to bits on the rocks of bad acting and outlandish plot points (apparently prisoners on death row are allowed to have two TV sets, jumper cables, and black candles to perfom evil rituals before they're executed...and don't even get me started on the girlfriend's ghost and her magic necklace). The chase through TV shows was a clever idea, but unfortunately doesn't come until the end of the film, and isn't long enough to be worth waiting for. Skip this one. You'd have more fun sticking your fingers into an electrical socket.
Rating: Summary: Truely one of Wes Craven's best films! Review: I love the movie Shocker and feel it deserved a second chance. Though the serial killer character of Horace Pinker is not Freddy Krueger, he still is just as terrifying and the films is just as good as Craven's A Nightmare of Elm Steet(and definitely better than its sequels). Mitch Pileggi of X-Files gives a wonderfully scary performance as Tv repairman/serial killer Horace Pinker. I think it definitely deseres a look by Craven and just plain Horror fans alike. So in response to Mr. Horton's review above, I would love to get my hands on some Horace Pinker action figures. What a great idea!
Rating: Summary: A Really Good Movie Review: I personally liked this movie alot. When it first came out back then,i was thrilled! I love the part where you see the girl as a ghost form talking to her loved one.Great stuff!!! They don't make movies like that anymore.
