Review: Hey Marshall Fine, how can you possibly say Alien is an overrated movie that takes too long to get going? The enjoyment of this movie is that it is a painfully agonizing build-up to something we all know is going to eventually occur. We know this creature is out there, in the ship, just waiting for the right moment. I found myself clutching my chair so hard I almost tore the armrests right off! It's a classic horror movie. It's dark, unsettling, and makes you want to cover your eyes, but you can't. Alien on DVD?! Well all I can say is, I'm going to need to buy another chair!

Summary: One of only a few flawless horror movies...
Review: When "Alien" was released in 1979, it redefined what the horror genre could achieve cinematically. The movie still remains one of the most technically and dramatically proficient ever made. From opening to closing scenes, Ridley Scott wanted nothing less than perfection, and his efforts have been duely appreciated. Everything from casting to dialogue to directing is nothing short of incredible. The release of this must-see horror classic on DVD will generate dramatic sales world-wide... and deservedly so.

Review: Alien ranks as probably the greatest sci-fi horror/suspense thriller ever made! The atmospheric feel of the movie is incredibly realistic, which only adds to the movie's suspense. The movie's plot revolves around the fact that a space cargo ship and its crew, inadvertently get overtaken by a lone alien predator. This alien is a "perfect organism" a "survivor". The cat & mouse game that ensues, is classic. This movie is a "Must See" for any sci-fi or horror fan. -Kobby 1999

Summary: Event Horizon's much better
Review: Alien provides some shocks and chills but I found everything too predictable. I knew who was going to live and who would die. I also found it annoying that the cat became responsible for a few the crew members' deaths. I thought Event Horizon was better than Alien because of the acting and the mystery element as to what was causing the events on board the ship.

Summary: I enjoyed this book because the author didn't over-describe.
Review: I really enjoyed reading the book Alien becuse it didn't have over-descriptions on the situations and all the junk that normal books have and that I don't care about. I also liked it because the story was good, (I originally got it because of the movie), and that it was more in depth on the characters than normal books are. I like the originality of the writing style, a little crude at times, but effective. I think that it could be read by children, although it is fairly violent, (not any more than most TV shows, and less than the movie), and it has some vocabluary that children won't know, (there were actually I few that I didn't). But, if you're a sci-fi fan, or just a fan of the movie, I suggest this book.

Summary: A film which transgresses the trilogy's reputation.
Review: This film is a masterpiece of cinematography, rising above the 'all guns blazing', gore filled action of the subsiquent films. The original is an intelligent and scientificly accurate trip to another world where humans are an alien race themselves. The atmostphere is mystical and is created by the use of subtle and ambient sound effects, rather than imposing musical scores. Excellent acting from John Hurt especialy, but an all round good cast. The only Alien film worth seeing.

Review: Superb and truly scary sci-fi masterpiece from the genius director Ridley Scott. Taking naff B-movie classics such as "Planet of the Vampires" and "It! The Terror from Beyond Space" and spinning it into a pant wettingly scary film that is packed with tension, suspense and gore. The trump card that Scott masterfully blends the genres of sci-fi, thriller and horror and does it brilliant effect to produce one of the most memerable films in history. Pluses are the fine performances from Weaver, Skerrit, Holm and Hurt, (until he gets serious tummy ache), Scott's eye for detail and a fine script that produces several notable twists to the plot. Unlike James Cameron's equally superb sequel, Scott relies on abstract tension and suspense that are even scarier than the blast fest that came in 1986, especially on video without the benefit of Dolby Surround Sound or the Big Screen. Pacy plot, slick beatiful timed direction, cracking performances and knife edge tension, mean that two hours pass by all too quickly. But of course all these are upstaged by H.R. Giger's superb designs; the most terrifyng screen monster ever.
