Rating: Summary: Actually better than its 1950's predecessor Review: I was quite surprised when I actually liked this remake more than the 50's original. I usually prefer horror from the 70's to the 40's so this surprised me. I'm not even a fan of KZJ, but I thought she was actually pretty good in this one. But many thought Tom Cruise would be no good in Interview with a Vampire, but he proved us wrong. It's rare in a modern horror movie to have mood & atmosphere, good writing AND good special effects. It's like getting the best of both worlds.
Rating: Summary: One of My Favorite Horror Films! Review: I truly enjoyed this movie. I'd seen the original at least a decade ago, but I didn't remember it too well so while watching this newest version, I didn't find myself comparing it to the older and was able to enjoy it. The story was well written and easy to follow. The actors were enjoyable to watch, but I was most surprised to find Lily Taylor in the lead role. I'm so used to seeing her in independant films, I almost had a a pang of disappoint that she was in a mainstreams hollywood film. But she did do a great job! What I most enjoyed about the film was the breathtaking scenery. The sets were absolutly amazing! So much care was taken into detail and craftsmanship. Sometimes as I watch the movie I find myself focusing on the sets rather than the movie. Although this movie is labeled a "horror" film, it didn't terrify me, but it did scare me. I appreciate this film because of the amazing special effects and the set design.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Chiller!!! Review: A group of adults locked up in a house haunted by the most evil ghost makes for a superb thriller.
Rating: Summary: The Haunting is so scary!!! just kidding! Review: This movie was o.k. The first time I saw it at the movie theater,It was scary. I couldn't believe a pg-13 movie could actually be scary. But this movie had me going from the beginning to the end. it had cool special effects.(my favorite part) And Owen Wilson was my favorite character. He made it funny. Overall, I say this movie was good but the script and plot could have been a little better.
Rating: Summary: It was pretty good Review: This movie is really good, but not great. It's not all that scary, though. It has really good graphics. That's probably the best thing about it.
Rating: Summary: A nice attempt. Review: The haunting is one of the most visualy pleasing movies that I have ever seen.( thus, it gets 3 stars, not 2). The plot is [messed up]. i wish that the producers would have [forgotten] the PG-13 rating and killed off a couple more of the insomniacs. Good SPFX and AWESOME scenery. rent it today. The Haunting Rated: PG-13 for strong horror sequences and mild language. three stars!
Rating: Summary: NOT BAD FOR A REMAKE Review: This is, of course, not much like the orginal(which I still think is better), but has some good effects and a decent story. I have it, but I bought the original first. This is a Hollywood story. The original is more believable. Watch them both.
Rating: Summary: I like this movie Review: Which is why I bought it. It is a cute movie with some cute noises.
Rating: Summary: Yikes, Scoob! Gh - gh - gh - ghosts!!! Review: An audience can forgive anything - except having its intelligence insulted, and this movie does that in spades.Director Jan de Bont bounced straight off of one of the worst cinematic bombs in living memory - Speed 2 - to assault the sensibilities of a paying public with the most over-the-top and unbelievably dumb ghost story ever committed to film (until Stephen King's Rose Red). The film has two things to its credit: great cinematography, and a fabulous house. Unfortunately, past those two things, everything else is just awful. The all-star cast is completely wasted, except for Lili Taylor, who practically does a one-woman show - co-starring more with the house and special effects than with her flesh-and-blood co-stars - though that is through no fault of her own. The script is shallow and trite, and doesn't allow any of the other characters to be more than the most meagre set-dressing. The story is childishly simplistic, and the almost non-stop computer-generated rollercoaster "horror" ride that comprises the last half hour wouldn't scare Scooby Doo in Disneyland. The concluding line - "It's all about the family!" - is genuinely one of the worst unintended howlers in cinema history. Even without Shirley Jackson's novel or the original 1963 Robert Wise classic to compare it to, this version of The Haunting is just embarrassing. Save your money, and read Jackson's novel or watch Wise's film, instead.
Rating: Summary: Got Carried Away with Special Effects Review: I thought this movie was really cheesy. It got so carried away with the special effects, that there wasn't enough room for a real story. This new version of "The Haunting" was terrible, and it could have been a whole lot better. I don't reccomend this film to anyone who has seen the original, they would be very dissapointed and frustrated.
