Rating: Summary: Vamping it up! Review: "The Forsaken," a thoroughly conventional vampire movie. This does not mean its bad - if you want to see a vampire movie, this one works very well. Conventional these days does not mean bats and crosses - none appear. It does mean chases at night across the desert, sexy vampires, a fair amount of blood, topless women, a cheesy "how the vampires were created" origin story and regular horror film "boo's." Think of 1998's "Vampires" and 1986's "Vamp." If you're looking for more special effects ala "From Dusk Til Dawn" or "Fright Night," or something deeper, like "Shadow of the Vampire," look elsewhere. But if you want chases in the desert and topless women, this does the job for cheap.

Rating: Summary: I Love Brendan Fehr Review: I enjoyed this movie. And the main reason I enjoyed it would have to be Brendan Fehr. As a huge Roswell fan, he was the reason I went and saw the movie! I also like vampire flicks and so I was intrigued! It was pretty good and I will buy it when it comes out on video!
Rating: Summary: i should have known Review: the only reason i went to "the forsaken" was becasue the guitarist of orgy, Ryan Shuck had a camio in it! now the parts with ryan in it, were the best, but the rest of the movie is like all other vamp. movies, it had a bad plot, but like i said, it didn't impress me. but if your an orgy fan ((like myself)) then go see it just for ryan. :o)
Rating: Summary: Place Your Bets, Take Your Chances Review: Vampires have fallen on bad graces in books. Everybody does vampires, and the concept is running out of steam. In print, publishers don't even want to see vampire stories unless there's something new to offer. After all, how many times can we read the "Vampire feeds/Vampire has sex/Someone becomes a vampire" story before we want to chuck the book out the window? But people who go to movies are a different beast. Even when a book reader goes to a movie, the person is in a different mindset. When most people read, they want to be challenged. They want to have their eyes opened to a new way of looking at things. They don't want to crack a book and feel like they've read this already. However, people who go to movies, especially people who go to monster movies, already know what they like. They have seen it before, they know it trips their triggers, and they want to see it again. That's the sort of person who would be drawn to the movie The Forsaken. It doesn't plow any new ground, it doesn't turn over any new ideas, it doesn't do anything vampire movies haven't already done before. And it's modestly satisfying for exactly that reason. The movie tries to establish itself as a new breed by rejecting old myths about vampires and introducing a new back story. Vampirism is a viral disease, which can be held off by careful application of drugs. The first vampires were Crusaders a thousand years ago who traded their human souls for immortality at the siege of Antioch. And unlike movies and stories that draw on Anne Rice's "tragically hip" vampire model, in The Forsaken, the vampires are actually scary monsters. However, if you've seen Katherine Bigelow's 1986 classic Near Dark, a road movie that conflates vampirism and rootlessness, you've already seen this movie. True, the rootless main characters are vampire hunters rather than vampires. True, no sympathy is ever shown for the vampires. However, in the ways that matter, there's not a whole heck of a lot of difference. This isn't to say that the movie is bad. However, this also isn't to say that the movie is good. It merely is what it is, take it for all in all. Don't expect to be jolted out of your seat, don't expect to be put to sleep. The pacing of the movie is adequate, and you don't quite realize how much time has passed. The characters are sufficiently developed, though one important character isn't even given a name. However, you also find yourself wondering why they take so long to get around to saying the word "vampire." By the time you get to the theatre, you've already seen the trailers or read a review, there's no shock that you're dealing with horrible blood-suckers. Why not 86 the baloney and say what you mean? Nudity, by the way, is the order of the day. The establishing shot is of a young blonde woman, buck naked, showering blood off her body. She will appear naked on screen six times, all told. And she's the one who is never called by name. (She's identified as "Megan" in the closing credits.) This one establishing shot lets you know that a large part of the movie is taken up with transparent attempts to shock and tittilate. If that's your kind of thing, this is your kind of movie. All in all, this movie is imperfect. However, it's not horrible either. It simply is what it is. If you like monster movies, you'll probably think this film is okay, though you won't call it a classic. If you read monster books, this movie will probably bore you, though there will be a few action-oriented scenes to keep you from just getting up and leaving. Settle in, watch the film, and don't worry about it. Just have fun while you're here and don't sweat the small stuff.
Rating: Summary: Oh how I HATED this movie!! Review: I really really wanted to like this movie. I'm a huge vampire fanatic and it's been awhile since a good vampire movie had been in the theaters. Boy was I disappointed. Ok, the way vampires came to exist was pretty inventive, I'll give 'em that much. And who doesn't love Brendan Fehr? Beyond that, in my view there wasn't much to enjoy. See, I'm the type who roots for the vamps. I loved 'em in The Lost Boys, Near Dark, Blade, Fright Night, Modern Vampires, etc. I love 'em in Buffy (but who doesn't love Angelus, Dru, or Spike). I can't get behind these vampires. Hell, I didn't even know their names. If I don't care about the vampires, then what's the point? Actually, I didn't care about anyone in the movie. At all. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
Rating: Summary: Why Why Why Why must this crap be distributed Review: This movie took The Vampires (1998) James Wood and slimmed it down. Low budget movie with low budget acting. Its not a very good copy to boot. The best part of the movie was the opening credits and I'm even ashamed to make that reference. Its the part with the most nudity. I can't think of a worse waste of time.
Rating: Summary: THE FORSAKEN Review: THE FORSAKEN is a horror/action thriller about a guy named Sean who is driving cross-country to attend his sister's wedding, and along the way he picks up a man named Nick who just happens to be a vampire hunter. Now, Sean is caught up in a battle with a gang of bloodthirsty vampires (The Forsaken), and things take a turn for the worst when Sean becomes infected with the vampire virus, and now he has to battle the undead in order to stay human. This movie had me on the edge of my seat, it has alot of plot twists, and good character development for the human and the vampire characters. This is definitly one of the best vampire movies to come out in the new millenium.
Rating: Summary: Intense, Violent, and Hilarious Review: I am a big fan of the Vampire film genre and thsi was the best I've seen in a long time. I was worried it was gonna be a boring undead teeny bopper flick but I was very impressed. I loved the slacker vampire hunter as it was a great change from the usual hard-edge vengeance hunter (Vampires), or the morose brooding quiet type (Vampire Hunter D). He was actaully believable in the role which was something Corey Feldman never pulled off (Lost Boys). The feeding scenes were great, very animalistic, and intense. As a matter of fact the whole movie stayed pretty intense throughout. Loved the Vampire henchmen characters, they really connected and contrasted well with their master. The only thing I didn't like about this one was the unending, gratuitous nudity (ok five scenes isn't exactly unending). I have no problem with nudity in films and sexuality is defniatley a must in a vampire movie but it kinda felt like hey you there look at these... ok lets go back to the movie. All fans of the vampire genre (you know who you are) should see this one.
