Review: i was actually scared of this movie. i had nightmares. unlike the insanely stupid first it had a plot and very scary twists. i watched it on showtime and i'm glad i did. just make it a blockbuster night and rent this good horror movie.

Summary: The Most Terrifying Movie. Ever!
Review: Hollywood has finally made a worthy sequel. After the disappointing and comical "Blair Witch Project", Joe Berlinger adds his fascinating vision to the story of the Blair Witch.
One of my biggest complaints about the original "Blair Witch Project", was its originality. I mean, who wants to see a group of "nobody kids" filming a documentary in the woods? Not me! The shaky camera work often left me wondering - what's going on, why can't I see the witch? How am I supposed to be scared if I can't see what's going on.The ending left me completely baffled. First, you see the guy standing in the corner, then the camera falls to the ground and the movie ends. What happened?! It would have been so much scarier if you could have actually seen the witch fly out on her broomstick and kill the kids. Now, THAT would have been scary.
Joe Berlinger knows what it takes to make a great movie, and he shows his mettle with the astonishing "Books of Shadows - Blair Witch 2". What I love most about this movie, is how Berlinger completely ignores every aspect of the original. Gone is the horrible acting and flawed story of the first movie. This time we have interesting characters and a complex story that keeps you guessing, right until the end. In fact, I'm still trying to figure out what happened!
This movie is most appreciated when viewed in the "DVD" format. For those of you that are not familiar with the "DVD's" - they serve the same purpose as the old VHS tapes, but "DVD's" are smaller and easier to store. The "DVD" contains some "behind the scenes" features that point out all of the hidden messages and clues to the Blair Witch. Spooky stuff!
Don't waste your time on the silly "Blair Witch Project"... "Book of Shadows - Blair Witch 2" is the real blockbuster. Please join me in counting the minutes until "Blair Witch 3" comes out. 1, 2, 3, 4...

Summary: Utterly Shocked
Review: It's very true that sequels rarely match the quality of the original film (in fact, we're often lucky if they're even WATCHABLE). The original Blair Witch Project was an effective horror film. While it didn't exactly scare me, it stayed with me, and I wouldn't ever go camping right after watching that film-no way! But I had heard that the sequel was a horrible movie, and I only watched it after reading two reviews that praised the film. But when I did watch it, I was utterly shocked. Let's just say that I'm frustrated with all the people who told me that this was a terrible movie, because their comments almost kept me from watching one of the best horror films I've ever seen. The plot is fairly predictable-we've seen this all before. A group of people agree to spend the night at a spot that's supposed to be haunted, cursed, etc. hoping to witness some supernatural phenomena. They bring cameras to record such phenomena if it occurs. Terrifying events ensue. What sets this film apart is the strong sense of forboding that looms over the characters right from the beginning. The atmosphere is perfect-you know that something is going to happen, something bad, but you don't know what. And when it does happen, it's not what you expect (or rather, it doesn't happen the way you'd expect it to). No horrible monsters jump out and kill the main characters, no, this film is into portraying a far more subtle, powerful evil. The 5 main characters attempt to stay awake the entire night, but they awaken the next morning and discover that they've fallen asleep, and they don't remember what happened in the last 5 hours. One of the characters lives at an abandoned broom factory (ha ha) and so the group meets there to view the footage they recorded during the night, in hopes of finding out what happened to them during those 5 hours. From the beginning, there are clues that things are not what they seem to be. The greatest triumph of this film is that it leaves you puzzling over what happened-what is true and what isn't? Exactly what role did the supernatural play in the events that unfolded after the group met that night in the woods? Is it safe to assume, as one character states, that "video doesn't lie"? In recent years, we have seen an increasing number of "self-aware" horror films (ha ha, look at us, we're poking fun at the horror genre`) and that's fine. But I've missed truly scary horror films, films that portrayed evil as something truly bad-horrifying, powerful, and able to ruin lives. This film captures that spirit perfectly. Don't play around with evil, it'll get inside you, mess you up, and then kill you. That's genuinely scary, that's what horror movies are supposed to do, and that's what this film does perfectly. So don't listen to all the reviewers who hated this movie. It's not for everyone, but many highly intelligent people enjoyed this film, and I would go as far as to say that it's even better than the original.

Review: This unfairly maligned shocker is just as good as its more illustrious predecessor in my opinion.The film contains many genuinely unsettling and disturbing images tied together with a very clever script.The anamorphic image is superb and the film has one of the best Dolby Digital sound mixes I've heard to date.

Summary: from a real witch's point of view...
Review: I am a wiccan, and was not happy about "The Blair Witch Project" but I decided to just leave it as normal expliotation of the word "witch" and forget it. Blair Witch 2 came out and I went to it stricktly for entertainment purposes. I loved it. Included in the some-what off-beat cast was the chericter Erica Gheerson, and I fell in love with her instantly. Her passionate anger about the first movie was a bit over the top, but I still identified with it. She was shown doing mini-rituals, talking about the beauty of nature, and though they portrayed her a bit overzelously, I still loved her. Her fate in the movie only made her seem like more of an innocent.

Summary: Cult hit spawns dismal sequel
Review: Sequels have become a given in the last 20 years. A look at a list of the top-grossing movies shows that perhaps seventy percent of them have either spawned a sequel or are themselves sequels. So when the ultra low budget 'The Blair Witch Project' became a smash hit, another movie on the subject became inevitable. Since a follow up movie is usually a retread by default, few people expect it to be as good as the original. What surprised many folks was just how bad a sequel 'Book of Shadows' is. [By the way, there IS no book of shadows in the movie]. It begins as a promising mockumentary and looks as if it is going to be a satire of the original. It quickly fades into a predictable, by-the-numbers horror movie. At times it seems as if it has something it is trying to say, but any message is muddled by its confused editing and script. Example: If you were on a tour of the Blair witch location and had a miscarriage one morning, would you rejoin the group that afternoon? Only if you were in a bad horror flick. None of the original cast is in this movie. That makes sense, since they all died in 'The Blair Witch Project'. What is odd is that neither of the original writer-directors worked on this sequel, but both are currently making Blair Witch 3. Perhaps the studio was too eager to make another boxoffice killing to wait for them to learn how to make a big budget movie.

Summary: Fine example of a sequel with imagination
Review: Five fans of the Blair Witch Project go on a quest to the town of Burkittsville to see the town's sights made famous by the film. They sleep over at the "witch's" house, partying hard until they pass out. When they wake up, they have lost several hours, along with all their camera equipment. All that is left are the videocassettes, hidden under a rock. They go back to one guy's house (he is a local) and decide to watch the videos to see what happened. What happens next is part of one of the best genre films I have seen, and certainly one of the best horror sequels. The acting is solid, and the discoveries are made in a well-done manner. Very scary and surreal. Even the discovery of who was in charge was done slowly and subtly. I was surprised by every twist and turn and the director should be commended for making what could have been a simple slice-and-dice into a thought-provoking, well-written, scary film. One realizes at the end that the entire film is a commentary on the first one and the public's response to it. This commentary is multi-layered and includes the last line spoken. Watch out for visual tricks that the filmmakers used as clues. Door. Rug. Mirror. Water.

Summary: Wow, this one was bad.
Review: Look, the first movie was scary in its own creative way. This movie is not scary--it is boring. There is a very annoying Wiccan girl that never shuts up about being a Wiccan. The movie is very disjointed and difficult to follow at times. The plot is so hollow and uninteresting that it seems like the script was written by a couple of high-schoolers working on a project for media class. I do think that the cover of the box is very cool, though.

Summary: Its not good, but not as bad as people say.
Review: This is not a good movie, but its not the "worst movie of all times" as many people have said. But what makes this movie as bad as it is, is the lack of good acting, plot, and script. Really really bad plot and script with some things that just dont make sense. For example, this is supposedly acting like the original "The Blair Witch Project" is real and really happend. Ok, so knowing this than the whole Heather Donue name should'nt be known because thats her actual name. So...why is it when there sitting infront of the camp fire and the guy who doesn't believe in the Blair Witch ask "How many Heather Donue's does it take to screw in a light bulb?" ....totally dumb part of the movie might I add. The movie's good qualitys are few and far between but did have a couple. Basically the best part was the 2 "ghost" sceens, in which the little girl is in the hospital room, and the kids are in the road making the [person] crash the car. Only freaky parts of the movie,and might I add...making the women they made the witch was HORRIBLE! She was just horrible as the witch and really cant act. If anything try to catch it on cable because its not worth buying it, or renting it. However it is worth a look to see what you think.
