Summary: Inferno: Hot Stuff!
Review: Having been a fan of Clive Barker for many years, loving his books, and original films, I was a little trepidatious when it came to the fifth Hellraiser installment, especialy as Clive had pretty much much disowned it....a shame really, because it is a good film!
OK, it has a few questions hanging over it...such as just how did Pinhead get back? We'd seen him fairly well obliterated in Bloodlines, so how does he come to be here, haunting the dreams, and life, of Craig Scheffer? How also did Pinhead take on the mantle of The Engineer? (Anyone familiar with the history of the whole Hellraiser story will know that the Engineer and Pinhead are two seperate entities, and could never be one and the same). Aside from that, the film moves at a reasonable pace, has a few well orchestrated set pieces; some of them very 'spooky', and some excellent new Cenebites. Those blank, featureless, bloody creatures are actually quite un-nerving, especially compared to the OTT creations from the past couple of flicks...CD Man, the twins twisted together, etc.
The way these new Cenobites were presented was effective, in the haunted grey, snowy wastes of a hallway, in a foggy forrest, always in a place you didn't expect to be in anyway!
The film relies more on the deep seated disquiet of unfamiliar surroundings when you least expect it, and that works very well, making it more of a very badly haunted house scenario than that to which we had become accustomed.
Doug Bradley, though only on screen for a few minutes, is superb, as usual. He obviously realises, as an actor, as to the power of his character of Pinhead, and never lets it become just another Jason/ Freddy cartoon character. He plays it with such dark dignity; almost majesty, that his few moments onscreen are almost a revelation! A wonderful character that I hope will never become a fey sham of it's glorious self!!
The basic plot is fairly contrived, and oft-used, but the way in which it is presented is quite fresh, and the overall dark tone, with the underlying Cenobite involvement makes for a very watcheable film. A good chapter in the Hellraiser chronicle.

Summary: Better Than Bloodline .... 3 Stars.
Review: Bloodline [stunk]. This one will not please the diehard cenobite Hellraiser fans of the 1st three releases. More pinhead and torn flesh was needed here. However, this one has a little spin on it, weaving it into a pretty cool 'Horror/Mystery' if you will. The cocaine addicted detective in search of the engineer (Pinhead), and all his mental torment, made for a decent Hellraiser. No Jesus wept lines here, or memorable Pinhead lines like, "We'll tear your soul apart!", but it beat Bloodline free and clear. Don't buy or rent if you loved the flesh tearing cenobites from the first three, but check it out if you want a cool thriller twist on the Hellraiser series. 3 STAR RATING FROM SCRAGGY'S TOMB OF HORROR DVD'S, USA.

Summary: Less Pinhead = better movie
Review: I don't know why so many people are upset that this movie doesn't have a lot of Pinhead. In my opinion, that's one of the best things about it. It made Pinhead mysterious again, and it is WAY better than Bloodline or Hell on Earth. This is a smart and entertaining movie that trusts that some fans would rather watch a good story than just get their Pinhead fix.

Summary: WORST HELLRAISER YET!
Review: Trying to put a pop-culture spin on Hellraiser....just WASN'T Hellraiser! NYPD Blue meets Hellraiser- NOT what I had in mind! Do yerself a favor and pass on this flick! I'm glad I rented it, and didn't just buy it like I'd originally planned to. Oh, and for those who are wondering how Pinhead could return after having been killed in Hellraiser IV- Bloodline took place in the FUTURE, that's how- which made PLENTY of room for more sequels.

Summary: This shouldn't even be considered a Hellraiser movie.
Review: The amazon.com editorial review has a few things right about this movie, but its generally approving tone is all wrong. Hellraiser: Inferno (Hellraiser 5 if you're counting) has only a tenacious connection at best to the Hellraiser film series. We have "Pinhead" and a few vaguely cenobite-looking cronies tormenting and counseling the main character, a tortured detective dealing with his own internal demons. Pinhead doesn't want, do, or say anything that is in character for him as he is portrayed in the previous movies, and the mythology of the series with its hell of pleasure and pain is completely cast aside. The story of the detective could have been interesting, but it's not a Hellraiser story in any way and the presence of both Pinhead and the "Hellraiser" title bring it an audience looking for something completely different than the film they get. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this were originally written as a stand-alone screenplay and then shoehorned into the Hellraiser mold by a license-happy writer or producer seeking to turn out a quick direct-to-video cash cow. The first Hellraiser is a classic of modern horror cinema. The second is a satisfying (although somewhat unnecessary) sequel. Everything after that is just a series of insults to Clive Barker's creation.

Review: You can tell that Clive Barker had nothing to do with this movie. Looks like the director tried to make a dark horror, but all I got was sleepy. After watching this movie I immediately went online and put it up for sale. I figured some other [person] would be fooled by its' write-up.

Review: This is the only movie that ive watched that I wanted to turn off but couldnt because I wanted to see the ending.The Reason why I wanted to turn it off is Because....This movie Hits pretty close to what Most ppl Could Concieve HELL to be.Ive only watched it twice.But believe me its good.Not your Typical hellraiser movie but it is worth watching at Least Once.

Review: With one eye twitching, and a headache quickly approaching I feel like I have been left no option but to counter the 5 star reviews which I have just read. Let me first say that those people are cinematic morons, and probably consider Kevin Smith a comedic genius. Secondly, I must confess that it has been quite a while since I saw this movie, maybe a year or so, but it has not been so long as for me to forget such ambitiously dumb elements of this movie like kung-fu fighting cowboy-demons with hippy hair. Yes, you read right, there are cowboy-demons with hair down to their butts who apparently know karate in the movie. Thirdly, for a movie with the subtitle "Inferno" the movie is lit almost totally with blue lights, and features an incredibly cold atmosphere. It seems to be like this is quite simply a breach of common sense which runs through from the opening credits to the ending ones. If I may add in a personal note, who ever is responsible for this should be hog-tied and thrown to the bottom of a well, so as to never excercise his/her ideas into a movie again. These are only a few of the plethora of mistakes made in this agressively stupid movie. Now I cannot totally rip on this movie for it did have some neat cenobites which is more than I can say for the third movie (equally atrocious) but it takes more than that to make even a mediocre Hellraiser movie. As far as I'm concerned Hellraiser 1 & 2 are the only one's any fan need concern themselves with, (if you're really desperate though 4 would be your next option - yes it's set in space, yes its a stupid movie, but it atleast has tried to be good. I am fully convinced that all other Hellraiser installments didn't even attempt that, but can rather be percieved as a cruel act of bitter resentment towards it audience.) I weep for the future of sequels; what Hellraiser needs is just what Nightmare on Elm Street got: a final worthy chapter directed by the master himself, in this case Clive Barker. Until then, fans are going to be forced to choke down this cinematic vomit. Please Mr. Barker, hellllllllllllllllllllllp!!
