Rating: Summary: A REAL horror movie Review: If you want to see some teeny-bopper, everyone dies, no plot whatsoever so at least I don't have to think movie, don't watch this one. This is a REAL horror movie. It scares you not only with the action on screen but also with anticipation of what is yet to come. You also have to actually think about what's going on to figure the movie out. I think this is why so many people don't like it. But if you want to watch a GOOD horror/suspense/supernatural thriller movie, this is definitely it.
Rating: Summary: Atmospheric, yet nonsensical. Review: The movie was excellent technically and it has an interesting premise. After Prince of Darkness, Carpenter began loosing his way....actually, most of his work turned to crap. However, some of the story is confusing and bothered my viewing experience. Such as the scene with the Dreams of the future and revealing of the cloaked figure. However, this movie does stand well and his signature synthesized music is effective. While not as good as his top 3 (The Thing, Halloween and Escape from New York), it is better than his newer stuff, including Village of the Damned and In the Mouth of Madness.
Rating: Summary: Scary stuff, but could've been better. Review: Horror fans will enjoy this solid picture by John Carpenter. Plenty of tension and first-rate shockers. However, some of the more interesting supernatural elements of the story go underdeveloped, and the acting leaves much to be desired. Parker and Blount are uninteresting in the lead roles.
Rating: Summary: an excellent film for any horror/suspense fan Review: From the the moment the film begins, you are completely frightened into wanting to know what will happened next. John Carpenter has made many excellent films in his lifetime...but none of them can equal Prince of Darkness. In fact, I believe that Carpenter brought in all of the ideas used throughout his films and incorrporated them into this horrifying film. It trancends all that which the human race believes in as well as what the future may just hold for us. Luckily, a small band of scientist are brought into the mix of things to figure out just how to save our future from ever being peaceful again- Mr. Carpenter, you really outdid yourself this time...I'll never look nor touch a mirror without fully making sure of its being again.
Rating: Summary: An intriguing horror\thriller that's both eerie and unique. Review: Prince of darkness is one of John Carpenter's underrated masterpieces that has to be seen to be appreciated. It's filled with masterful shocks , evident directorial talent by Carpenter and very good performances from all the unknown cast (with the exception of Pleasence and Wong). So if you're a Carepnter fan or just a person who like artistic and chilling original thrillers so see it , you won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: The Horror Film For The True Conoiseeur Review: I must say that Prince of Darkness is one of Carpenter's finest films, ranking with Halloween, Assault on Precinct 13, and The Thing. Terrifying horror sequences abound in this unlikely thriller about the return of Satan. Just for the record, I have seen and own some of the finest horror films ever made, and I chose to make this part of my collection. I couldn't believe that such a fine film received such poor reviews. My compliments to Mr.Carpenter. And look for Alice Cooper's cameo!
Rating: Summary: Someone should slap a big ol' "Satan" label on that jar. Review: Carpenter certainly knows how to set the mood. Artistic combination of soundtrack and story. Loses only one star for very minor storyline haze, but all in all, a fun and spooky time. Creepy folks and special effects. For even more fun, buy some of that green "slime" they sell in novelty stores and huck it on your buddies in the middle the movie... They'll love that.
Rating: Summary: Ranks as one of John Carpenters' best! Review: The eerie church setting does it all for this movie. The guy who giggles, the bugs, Alice Cooper, and the best dream sequences of any movie to date. All these sum up an excellent movie from the master himself. I'm still waiting for "The Fog" to come out on DVD.
Rating: Summary: John Carpenter creates another horrifying masterpiece. Review: How many times will John Carpenter succeed in making truely fightening horror films? This is yet another one. Carpenter's music usually helps make the film and this one is certainly no exception. There is an errie vibe from beginning to gut-wrenching finale and there's more than enough suspense. Don't watch this one alone!
Rating: Summary: Great Scary Movie, good transfer to DVD Review: This is one of John Carpenter's best films, and finally watching it the way it was intended in widescreen made this horror fan a very happy camper. The transfer is well done, with some few artifacts and the surround sound is warm and listenable. A great scary film...
