Summary: Okay-I guess
Review: Okay, so the effects weren't as up to date as they are now and maybe the acting did suck. But I thought that this was an okay movie. I heard from other people that the book explains more than the movie does and it goes into greater detail. My little story that goes with this movie was that I was watching the movie with a bunch of my friends. When it got to a really scary part, everyone was so intense that when the lady on the movie said, "Hell," the power went out! It was so freaky and everyone laughed afterwards.

Summary: BAD STORY + BAD ACTING = A REALLY BAD FILM
Review: THE AMITYVILLE HORROR in my opinion is an example of how bad a movie can be. JAMES BROLIN and MARGOT KIDDER are awful as the couple that moves into what seems to be a nice house turned nightmare they act like they're bored to death and it shows. The effects are awful in this film too just watch and you'll see what I mean so in my opinion avoid THE AMITYVILLE HORROR.

Summary: Fun and very chilling!
Review: A family move into a really cool Long Island house. There, they experience strange happingings. You all probably know the story, but they end up running away at the end after they are chased out by the demons and black ooze seeping from the walls. Cool movie, definitly worth seeing. If you wanna know more, rent it!

Summary: amityville horror
Review: I loved this movie. I can't believe people said that this movie is a "yawner". I found it very scary even though it came out that this was a hoax. But when I thought this was a true story, I was a believer. Watch this with the lights off!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Some good scares, but boring.
Review: The Amityville Horror, to tell you the truth, is a yawner. The movie took a long time to get going and it was very fake. There are some scary parts in it. Such as when the lady gets possesed at the passage to Hell. But, the rest of the movie is a yawner.

Summary: fabulous for it's time quite unsettling
Review: for those of us who are firm believers in the paranormal this movie satisfies the element of disbelief that lies deep in all of us!the book however was perfectly put together and gives much more detail and reality to the horrifying yet mystical goings on in the amityville home no doubt if any one of us had lived in the defeo house we wouldnt be as quick to judge the other families who have lived and suffered in that house.

Summary: Awesome film!!
Review: The plot is horrific and suspenseful!!! The house is incredibly evil and scary!!! You'll have nightmares for weeks! Some say the story is a hoax but I BELIEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Summary: "GET OUT!"
Review: It gets two stars for that scene alone! YIKES! I don't know, maybe it was because I read the book first that made me dislike this film so much. The book by the way is down right creepy - highly recommendable! If you haven't seen the movie yet, rent it first and then go from there. It's fairly disappointing but worth checking out.

Summary: Never fails to scare the crap out of me...
Review: Ok I realize this movie has become increasingly cheesy and corny with each passing year. Most reviewers would say it's a piece of crap, but having seen it numerous times over the past 25 years I still say it's one creepy film. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I was so young when I first saw it, but to this day it just gives me goosebumps. I've always been fascinated with the story of Defeo murders that took place in that house 30 years ago. That more than anything else absolutely terrifies me. Mainly because it really happened. I visited, well took pictures from a car, this house two decades ago and it was so surreal to be looking at a house where such awful events too place. All that aside, the actual claim of the Lutz's hauntings doesn't particularly frighten me as much. This movie does however. I know it's extremely dated and the acting is melodramtic and James Brolin looks like a maniac with a ax, but it still scares me. It could be the look of the film that does it for me. Or it could be that damn eery music. That opening theme has got to be the number one most terrifying theme for me ever. It's second even to the theme on The Exorcist or Halloween. Actually I love the Halloween theme and listen to it with no problem. But Amityville's haunting children singing theme...yeah that's not cool. I hear it and I immediately start to feel a chill. If you take away the music perhaps this film wouldn't be as scary. Whether the Lutz's story was a hoax or not, I really don't care. This is a movie, it's fiction. The purpose of it was to scare viewers and it worked and that's why I give it at least 3 stars. OH and one other part that really freaks me out is when the house tells the priest to "GET OUT"....I know it may seem hilarious to a new viewer, but I just get this really uneasy feeling watching that scene. I'm looking forward to the remake!

Summary: terrible
Review: I`ll give this film two stars for Lalo Schifrin`s great music score, but otherwise it sucks. The worst scene is in the basement when the "medium" becomes briefly posessed.."find a well, its the passage to hell..cover it!!!!!
