Rating: Summary: Hold the Split Pea Soup Review: Don't watch this if you have ever felt capable of experiencing a nervous breakdown. The DVD version is especially realistic. For those who are light hearted or don't take the subject matter seriously, it will still make your head spin. "The Exorcist" touches parts of the psyche that challenge religious faith, and make mental stamina a very personal issue. I once knew a young buckaroo in college (6' 8", 270 lbs.) who aspired to be a professional football player. A few weeks after witnessing this movie, he went camping with some friends, including a buddy who had also seen the film. The second lad was a serious weight lifter, built like a mack truck, and considered a real stud muffin in his day. The "Eight Man" tent was filled to capacity (with mostly ladies) so the dynamic duo volunteered to sleep under the stars. But they couldn't sleep a wink thinking about the (then) unknown twelve year old actress whose performance literally elevated her to fame. Every little noise in the woods created a full blown panic that these macho men desperately tried to conceal. As dawn approached, the men finally dozed off only to hear the light pitter patter of foot steps above their heads. Upon opening their eyes, they discovered (to their great relief) a family of moose. One of the men was shaken beyond belief, and has never been able to work for the past 25 years. His beautiful wife eventually filed for divorce. This true life example illustrates the dramatic impact "The Exorcist" can have on certain fragile personalities.
Rating: Summary: The Exorcist Review: I do like the exorcist. I have only seen it once, and probably won't see it again for years. I won't even buy it! I like it, but it's that terrifing! The movie showcases not only, a horror freak show, but the classic showdown between good and evil. I liked the way the film builds the tension, then scares you to death. The scenes where Reagan is possesed by the devil, and her head does a 350 degree rotation. The way the horrifing scenes are done is spectacular. This movie will for sure terrify you! I rarely get scared at horror movies. I saw this on video. If I saw it in the theater, I'd faint or be scared for days straight! I could barely sleep the night after I watched this! I stayed up till 3:00 a.m. just staring at the TV. It's terrifing! I sat there in shck at this movie. But the acting and sound are harrowing. But you have to be 13+ to see this even in the daytime! (I saw this at night, and that was bad!) If you're under 13, you won't make it through the first half. I won't ever buy this movie. That's how scary it is! If you think you can bear it, then by all means watch it!
Rating: Summary: Still the best Review: What makes the Exorcist such an enduring film is that it is not only gut-wrenching but heart-wrenching as well. Ellen Burstyn's performance as an anguished, defeated mother desperately seeking someone to save her tortured twelve year old daughter drives this film into greatness. It's easy to get caught up in the "scariest movie of all time" debate; but if you can get past that you'll find that the Exorcist is one of the best dramas of all time. I suspect that if Regan had suffered from cancer instead of demonic possession this film would have won many more academy awards.
Rating: Summary: A Serious Thought-Provoking Movie Review: As horror movies go, this is the leader of them all on many levels. It's a very intelligent, thought-provoking film. The horror in this movie cannot be catagorized and rationalized in any human capacity. For this reason, it is so unfathomable and unrealistic to people that they tend to come away amused and confused. But for those that dare to understand the meanings in this film, the reality of it all leaves you shaken to the very core-reaching for what little faith you have in your humble human existence. The evil portrayed in this film is not physical or tangible in any form: there are no serial killers here, no Jasons, no Freddy Kruegars. What we are dealing with here is evil in its' purest form. We avoid this movie, we're ignorant, we nervously laugh off its' implications but it's there. For how can you fight something that has no form? Something that is nowhere yet everywhere? Something that knows past, present and future? Something that is inside of you yet outside of you? Something that is part of you yet apart from you? Surely these are the questions that little Regan must be asking herself in whatever awareness she has left of herself apart from the spirits' presence within her.The reaity of this brings up other questions and realizations. Specifically, theological ones. The spirit is powerful, yes, but he does have his weaknesses but not in any human sense. He is as much a servant of Jesus as we are although on a different plane of existence. He knows this and he seeks to make us despair about our humanity. As you can see, he does this in the most obscence, disturbing, animal-like ways possible.(The masturbation with the cross) He takes our weaknesses and uses it against us, (Father Karras and his guilt over his mother.)In the end, we are sure of only two things and these two things we can never prove in any human capacity: Our faith in Jesus to love and forgive us for our sins and the gift that he gave us apart from his everlasting love: free will. For it is this free will that enables us to hold on to any vestiges of ourselves in struggling with the spirits. (The HELP ME that is written on Regan's stomach.)It is this inner struggle that brings on the convulsions and physical pain to poor Regan's body. She is fighting it barely. This is the stage that THE EXORCIST is played out on. For those of you who are already shaking your heads, I'd like to add this: Science is forever seeking life on other planets. Knowing the biological tree of life: humans... fish... bacteria... nanobacteria.. etc... life is in abundance. How arrogant are we to believe that life and inteligence stops with us? That if we can't measure it with our meager tools, it doesn't exist? What if? JUST WHAT IF? These are the questions that THE EXORCIST raises. For those that dare and are willing and able to search beyond the surface, the answers we might find are unimaginable and quite terrifying. For those of you who are interested in reading factual cases of demonic posession, I would highly recommend Malachi Martin's HOSTAGE TO THE DEVIL. He goes in to much detail about the stages of demonic posession and he explains wonderfully the very real relationship between Jesus, Lucifer and Humans. It is a very scholarly, terrifyingly real book.
Rating: Summary: Don't go to sleep! Review: This movie was so scary! Just seeing her laugh and talk with all that puke all over her! When she sticks out her toungue and her eyes are white! Let me tell you.... if you think you've seen nothing scary enough for you then you're wrong! I dare you to get this movie... you'll never want to go any where in the dark anymore..... especially by yourself. So, if you want to rent a scary movie.. rent "The Exorcist". Have fun!
Rating: Summary: True Evil Does Exists Review: This is truly the scariest movie of all time and for good reasons. I've read a couple of nonfiction books on demonic posessions including the true case that this movie is based on. The film is pretty accurate in portraying certain aspects of posession although it has taken some creative liberties. (the 360 degree head spin for one)This movie really questioned my belief in God and the Devil. Like the tag line of the movie says, " the belief in evil... and the belief that it can be cast out" u must first acknowledge its' existence before you can ever combat it. and you can never combat it as a human, you can only depend and have faith in the power of Jesus to do the saving. It's a very real dilemma. For people who don't have any spiritual beliefs let alone Christian ones, they cannot understand or appreciate the seriousness and significance of this movie. But for those that do, it speaks directly to the faith and spirit of Man. Even if you don't think about this movie in any intellectual, spiritual or philosophical way, it still scares that heck out of you and keeps you awake for nights. No horror movie has yet to compare to this one.

Rating: Summary: The ultimate in fear Review: A beast of a movie! This is everything you could ever ask for in a horror movie(well, drama really,in this case, but that's nothing bad)!Great acting, great direction, great effects(for their time),and of course,a great screenplay authored by none other than Bill Blatty himself. This is one you can't miss.Forget all those teenybopper slasher flicks, this is the real deal.Heck,it even bothers to stop and make you think(in what way does Damien's mother ACTUALLY sereve the plot? Why did the clock stop when Father Merrin was discussing the demon Pazuzu with the Arab?Who is the white, glaring apparition that pops up during the exorcism, and in Karra's dream?Could it be none other than...Satan?). The Exorcist-coming Sept.22 to a theater near you with startling new footage.Be there...!
Rating: Summary: Unequaled Horror Masterpiece Review: The Exorcist, the all too familiar tale of a young girl possessed by a demon, still stands, nearly 30 years after its release, as the greatest horror film ever made. I think this says more about the general quality of the horror genre than anything else as even the over-rated 'Sixth Sense' doesn't come close to capturing the sheer psychological horror of this film (let alone the lame teen slasher flicks of the 80's and 90's). In fact, the only film that comes close would be the orginal 'The Omen'. Though not nearly as well developed as the original book, the film is still a brilliantly executed battle between the forces of good and evil draped in an atmosphere that simply terrifying. It is to the great work of [director] William Friedkin (the only good film he has ever made, interesting enough) that the films true source of power is that the characters and the situation they find themselves in come across so, well, 'believable'. The make-up FX of Dick Smith are still great and haunting and the cinematography is masterful. Combine this with the added features of the Special Edition, and you have a film that simply must be purchased.
Rating: Summary: this movie is awsome. Review: GREAT movie. the exorcist is the scariest movie ever. The first time I saw it I was so sacred I was afraid to go to sleep so I just stayed up and watched funny cartoons. I haven't seen this movie for about five years. I am thirteen and I am still afraid to watch it. I think the movie has pretty good effects like when Reagan(Linda Blair)turns her head all the way around and starts talking. The movie has alot of swearing and kind of nasty scenes which I think are really cool. ...
