Summary: Better than the over rated Mel Gibson's Signs
Review: This movie has less of an appealing trailer when compared to Mel Gibson's Signs. But in my reality this movie beats Signs in sophistication, plot and excitement. I found Dreamcatcher to have a multi-layered plot line compared to Signs which was one dimensional. The eel like snakes were great additions to the special effects world of Hollywood. Plus the alien with big head was really scary. I did think mid-way through the movie "oh no not another Alien movie". And I did expect it to be a copy. But I was overly pleasantly surprised. Plus it was ironic toungue in cheek how Morgan Freeman refered to the aliens as Ripley's (from the Alien franchise 4 movie saga by 20th Century Fox).This movie made me realise and be scared of WHAT IF aliens did invade this way. They certainly posed more of a threat compared to Signs. Plus you could see the whole army of them:
Which leads me to my favourite scene ... Where the 5 brigade helicopters attack the aliens spaceships (for a moment I suspect the aliens could be friendly after all - great diaglogue there by the writers!). In this spellbinding scence there was brilliant Independence Day ID4 special effects; complete with brooding atmosphere. I love how the aliens tried to use the radio to communicate to us humans "we are a peacefull race" (through using innocent children voices), but were not in reality. Contary to what some amazon reviewers have said, I found the childhood flashbacks to be very boring. Other bad points about the movie was some of the dialogue said by Morgan Freeman which was incomprehensible. Can't wait for the DVD release to clear that up with subtitles and closed captioning. But the conspiracy theory I'll eat up any day (ala X Files - yummy!). Overall Dreamcatcher offers more than what it's modest trailer offers, which makes the movie seem less worthy and exciting. GO WATCH IT! To show movies like Signs what a real alien invasion movie should be about and NOT just rely on misleading smart trailers which Signs has. NOTE: I am a science fiction fan

Summary: Dreamcatcher: about Extra Terrestrials
Review: It was funny, scary, and cool. Sure i love aliens and i own a copy of THE SIGNS yet this movie was alot better than that one. It made you jump, but you can still sleep at night unlike THE RING, FEAR DOT COM, AND DARKNESS FALLS that make it hard to sleep after you see them. I got a kick out of all the blood. It looked so real that it almost made you wanna touch it. Sure some parts were stupid, like the blakc guy shooting the white guy to death by a helicopter. Yet it was very cool! go see it!

Summary: Not quite able to fit this fantastic book into 2 hours......
Review: DREAMCATCHER is one of the best books I have ever read. It takes several sub-plots (childhood friends reunite, aliens, rogue military ops-forces, Snowy mountain setting, Possible end of mankind, telepathy, chase scenes etc.) and a multiple array of characters (The four childhood friends, another friend who has a special bond with them, a rogue commando force, aliens, hunters infected by aliens, small town people quarantined) and combines and meshes something that has a little of Stephen Kings "the stand" as well as things that touch on "invasion of the body snatchers" and Stephen Kings "Stand by me" To many people are critical of the "movie" aspect of it and not paying close enough attention to the story. This movie is kind of like a progressive rock album, each time you see it it will make more sense, come together more, and allow you to see something different each time. The movie seemed to have everything that was in the book, although much of it was cut down. The quarantine holding facility at Gosselins Market was very short, as the book built up a lot that happened there and what would lead up to the end of the quarantine. Also the journey to massachussettes was cut down, taking away somwhat from the suspenseful feeling you got when you read the book (freeway wide open during nighttime, snow cat barreling down the road, dodge ram not far ahead). The scene at the pumphouse at the very end was not very much like the book, and therefore did not leave to much closure. The ending if anything else be spared, should have been like the book. They did do an excellent job of the transition, conversation, and despair of the alien trying to take over Jonesys mind. Also showing the "virtual reality" of his memory was excellent. Being inside a giant library of memories, moving boxes around, and hiding the right ones so the alien could not find what it was looking for. The Scene of the attack helicoptors going in for the strike against the creatures spacecraft was spectacular. Also all of the animals running in the same direction in the woods. Little scenes like this helped add to the mood of the movie that the book captured. Take it for what its worth. Most people can find a fault in anything, I liked it because I loved the book. I think if you read the book first you will understand and therefore enjoy the movie more.

Summary: Horrific sci-fi meets STAND BY ME.
Review: I really didn't have any expectations about this movie before seeing it. I knew it was based off the Stephen King novel and I knew it starred some fairly talented actors (e.g. Morgan Freeman), was directed by Lawrence Kasdan and the screenplay was written by William Goldman. Stephen King stories can make great movies when done right. However, there have been other movies based off of Stephen King works that have been absolutely horrible. Basically, DREAMCATCHER is a horror/sci-fi film, interlaced with lots of dark humor. The film reminded me a lot of STAND BY ME, but with a touch of IT. The movie starts off interesting enough, but the tone and pace of the film changes about the time that the military shows up. Overall, I enjoyed the film, despite it's plot holes and fairly predicable outcome. As a sidenote, if you have an opportunity to see this film in the theatres, do so because the movie is prologued by one of the films from the upcoming THE ANIMATRIX collection. The film THE FINAL FLIGHT OF THE OSIRIS is visually stunning and is enough to satisfy ones movie palette until the two MATRIX sequals are released later this year.

Summary: ok my reveiw is getting better
Review: even though the movie left out certain parts that to me seemed important, certain things happened that i do not recall like how Henry and owen got away, i thought it was by snow mobile then they stole i believe a hummer later on, but hey what do i know maybe im going senile at 15yrs of age. though i give the movie a five star rating because evn though the movie was a 2 rating the acting done by the actors was a five maybe a four and a half beacause there is always room for improvement but i did enjoy the acting and who was cast as henry, peter and beaver, not to liking of jonesy though no offence to that actor because he proved me wrong with his splendid acting, though i love to give reveiws i must go always Diana-Joyce

Summary: Too different, did u read the book?
Review: ok i read the book Dreancatcher by steven king, i also saw the movie however i do think the guy who portrayed Henry was quite cute, the movie had cut out certain parts of the book which i did not like. Like where Mr. Gray kills the cop in the book he was in a restraunts bathroom thats where you find out he likes to kill, finds it enjoyable, he also learns what bacon is and that he likes it, later on he stops at a store for more bacon. The movie however has the cop killed outside near woods and no bacon. although it may not seem so relavent it is because Mr. Grays craving for bacon slows him dow and would allow Henry, Duddits, and Owen to catch up to them.

Summary: Excellent adaption of an excellent book.
Review: This is a truely good movie plain and simple. The performances are excellent as are the f/x. It does exactly what the book did, it scares you and keeps you interested in the story as well. Of course there are elements from the book that have been condensed for time(and the very graphic nature of it all) but, I would rather have seen this movie done on the big screen where they could stay true to what happened when you were infected than severely watered down for tv. This is the most interesting and chilling movie to come along since "Jeepers Creepers" and I highly recommend it.

Review: As a sci-fi and horror fan, this flick was extremely painful to watch! In my opinion, this pathetic excuse for a movie doesn't deserve even one star (unless you consider its comedic appeal; it was so absurd that I laughed nearly all the way through it). The plot makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. One example (of many): why would advanced aliens capable of interplanetary flight need to resort to stealing a police car and tossing an infected animal into the water supply so they could contaminate us when they could easily deploy the pathogen from the air? This is just one example of the many ridiculous events that unfold in this unbelievable waste of time. Stephen King has stolen bits from many different movies (Invasion of the Body Snatchers, John Carpenter's The Thing, Alien, etc.) and recycled some of his own ideas (IT) and assembled them into an entirely incoherent mass ...

Summary: I Wanted this to be good, at least for Kasdan's sake...
Review: I finally went and saw "Dreamcatcher" this afternoon. I was sort of dreading seeing it, because I didn't want it to be as bad as it looked in the trailer. Well, it ended up being pretty bad. But it was one of those movies, that if you can just suspend your disbelief at how bad it is, you can perversely start to enjoy it. A little bit, anyway. I didn't have many expectations for "Dreamcatcher," the movie. It's based on one of my least favorite Stephen King books. "Dreamcatcher" the book was just all over the place, and it rambled like crazy. I think the only King book I liked less was "Insomnia." I felt bad when I found out Lawrence Kasdan was making "Dreamcatcher," because I think Kasdan's a great film maker ("Mumford" is one of my favorite movies in the last five years). I also have pretty big soft spots for "The Big Chill" and "Body Heat." I was hoping that somehow Lawrence Kasdan would be able to save "Dreamcatcher," by trimming and reshaping the movie into the story the book was trying to be. It didn't happen, though. The first twenty minutes or so, when the four protagonists are introduced, is pretty well done, but once the CGI aliens enter stage left, the whole thing just gets really silly and unbelievable in a hurry. There are a lot of scenes that just kind of make you cringe, and it's only in abandoning any hope you might have had that it would be a decent movie that you can sort of enjoy the wild campiness of it all. There are a few saving graces, though. Jason Lee does a great job with his role, though he doesn't make it that far into the movie. Also, there's a great visual device in the film that's reminiscent of the "subconscious" scenes in "Being John Malkovich" where you get a peek inside Jonesy's head. Those scenes were great, perceptive film making. It's kind of hard to believe they're sharing screen time with all those [...] weasels, CGI, and general goofy goings-on. I can forgive King his bad books. His output is uneven, but he always writes as many good ones and he does flops. I feel bad for Lawrence Kasdan, though, since he isn't quite as prolific, and in forgetful Hollywood you're only as good as your last picture. I know he's got better films in him, and I hope he'll be able to make them.

Review: About Twenty Years Ago... After they saved a Kid (Who has Down's Syndrome) by the name of Douglas 'Duddits' Cavell (Andrew Robb) from Bullies. Jonesy (Giacomo Baessato), Herny (Mike Holekamp), Pete (Joel Palmer) & Beaver (Reece Thompson) become fast friends with the Boy, they saved but unexpectedly, they shared a Powerful Secret that Changed their Ways, they could never begin to Understand. Now Twenty Years in the Present-Jonesy (Damian Lewis), Herny (Thomas Jane), Pete (Timothy Olyphant) & Beaver (Jason Lee) are men with Separate Lives & Separate Problems. They reunite for a Hunting Trip in the Woods of Maine for their Annual Hunting Trip. But then Everything Changes, when a Stranger (Eric Keenleyside) arrived into their Camp & There`s strange going-ons happening to them but they are not alone. Then the Four Friends are Plunged into a living nightmare & horrifying journey though Hell on Earth & Struggling with a Creature from another World. Their only Chances of Survival is locked away in their shared Past in the Dreamcatcher. Directed by Lawrence Kasdan (The Big Chill, Grand Canyon, Mumford) made a Entertaining Sci-Fi Thriller Epic. Based on a Book by Stephen King (Needful Things, The Tommyknockers), which is Surprisingly Faithful to the Novel for 2/3 of the Movie but then at the last third changes the film Completely from the Novel. There`s some Characters & Situations from the Book is Missing from this Adapation, including After the Defeat of the Alien and also Mr. Grey`s Character has been toned-down for the film and it's plays like a High Camp Parody of Alien Series and earlier Stephen King's adapations like Stand By Me and It but Actor:Damian Lewis is the Standout of the film. The film has some good unintentional laughs but that again, it's pretty hard to take Morgan Freeman plays Colonel Curtiss (Originally Named Colonel Abraham Kurtz in the Novel), which he palys a Demented Military Commander. Tom Sizemore plays Owen Underhill & Donnie Wahlberg plays the Older-Douglas 'Duddits' Cavell are the Supporting Players of the movie. One of the few Highlights of the film is the Amazing Cinematography by Oscar-Winner:John Seale (The English Patient, The Hitcher, Witness). Terrific Music Score by James Howard Newton (Sings, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable) & the Strong Visual Effects by Oscar-Winner:Industrial, Light & Magic (ILM). Also Excellent Creatures Desings by Steve Johnson`s Make-Up Effects Team. This is One of the Most Entertaining Adapations from a Stephen King novel. DVD has an sharp Pan & Scan (1.33:1) and Widescreen (2.35:1) transfers and excellent-Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. DVD Extras are:Behind the Scenes featurettes, Stephen King interview-what he thinks about the Rough Cut of the film, Deleted Scenes, Outtake & Original Ending (Which in some way, closer to the Novel). Underrated to be Sure but Sure to be a Cult Classic years to come.
