Review: all i can it's very scary it gives you goose bumps. i've seen it tons of times , but it still gives me the creeps. lets just say your basket full of nerves, have a happy fright boo night. i wish 20th century fox would re-release this film in the theaters or restore it to a almost mint print of the film like my fair lady, along with the sound restored mastered in Thx sound on video or dvd in widescreen. that would be cool this film deserves it. like Thx says sort of the people are listening. think about.
Rating: Summary: Another must see for the serious horror fan! Review: Another excellent horror movie. A must see film. I just wish they would make horror movies like this currently. Excellent scare factor.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT GOTHIC HOUSE THRILLER! Review: Especially in light of the absolutely dismal "The Haunting" released this year, "The Legend of Hell House" is looking better and better as a defining film for the haunted house story. Director Hough firmly establishes a foreboding mood from the first frame, and doesn't let go throughout the film. The acting is superb all around, with everyone taking the proceedings with fitting seriousness. There is no tongue-in-cheek attitude here: the Belasco house is evil and everyone (including the audience) feels it. Hough (who also directed "Escape to Witch Mountain" and "Watcher in the Woods") has in "Hell House" found his niche--his ability to be sensitive to moods finds perfect pitch here and his talents as a director are on this occasion supported by a fine script. Special effects are (blessedly) minimal, and while the final denoument may seem a tad contrived, the film still stands head and shoulders above other members of the genre. If you are at all a haunted house fan, "Hell House" is definitely an intelligent and atmospheric film worth a look. (See also: "The Changeling," "The Haunting (1963)", and "The Innocents.")
Rating: Summary: First-Rate Horror Film! Review: This movie does not disappoint! It delivers in atmosphere, plot, acting -- its an overall fright-inducer! Plus, it includes phenomena that you just don't seem to find in movies of today. Order this now, since you can't find this in any store!
Rating: Summary: A first rate chiller-thriller! Review: For a real ghostly experience seethe "Legend of Hell House."It's head and shoulders above the overated "The Haunting." andguaranteed to make you sleep with one eye open for a long, long time!
Rating: Summary: One of the best horror movies of all time Review: There are no axe murders in this movie... There isnt $10 million worth of special effects... You never really see the ghost... However Hell House is much more sophisticated and frightening than any of those types of movies. You never see the evil... But you see its effects... This is brilliant because isn't whatever youre own imagination creates far more scary than anything you can see? This movie is well acted (Roddy MacDowell and Pamila Franklin are perfect in this movie as the mediums...) very suspensfull and unpredictable to say the least.
Rating: Summary: One of the best horror films of recent memory Review: You cannot view the genre of horror without looking at Hell House. Frankly, it defines the subgenre of horror of the haunted house. Roddy McDowell gives a performance credible to his excellent abilities, and the script and story are both interesting, but also different from the standard horror fair. You have a malevolent spirit that is as smart as it is evil, and McDowell's passive indecision as the only survivor of the events that transpired years previously leaves you unsure of who will make it out alive, and in one piece. The only point one could contend in the age of digital effects and the need for senseless gore is that some of the more frightening aspects might be lost. I assure you, they will not be. Hell House is indeed a fright-fest, and one of the true modern horror classics. In a age where films are remade, I doubt any remake could stand to this excellent original.
Rating: Summary: This movie will make you scared of the dark Review: I first saw this movie when it first came out in 1973, and it had a different rating then. Originally based on a true story, but edited for the "PG" rating it still follows the storyline and can "SCARE" you like no modern film can. A favorite of mine and now my children.Especially good on those dark and stormy nights!
Rating: Summary: If you like classic thrillers, this one's for you Review: If you're a collector of classic suspense thrillers, you'll love this movie. The cast of this film delivers more gasps, seat jumping, and "oh my gosh", activity from the audience than any "modern day" "special effects" slice & dice flick. This is a must have for any horror/thriller collector.
Rating: Summary: One of the scariest movies I have every seen. Review: Fair warning this movie is scary. However, it never really grosses you out with any blood and gore. That's what makes it so good. It lives on its own merrit without slipping into cheap trickery of trying to scare you (ie. someone's insides being torn out)! This movie is well worth watching.
