Rating: Summary: save your money!!! Review: I am a fan of 70s horror and this is no tribute. Instaed of having an actual scary plot Zombie tries to make the movie scary by saying 'look how freaky i can be'. I can use negatives and different shade lenses. In esssence, this movie was worse yes worse than Lair of the White WOrm, Deep Blue Sea and Ghost Ship (they at least have comedic value)
Rating: Summary: Disappointing! HOUSE Is A Mess! Review: HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES was hyped very heavily at the time of it release due to the promise that it harkens back to the days of 70s style horrror films. It promises that this movie will bring back the glory days of drive-in style of horror. Not surprisingly, it failed to deliver. Rob Zombie, while a big-time horror fans, tries to bring back the greatness of 70s horror, (TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE among others), but there is something lacking in the finished product. The acting was lame, even by B-movie standards, the characters were annoying ( I couldn't stand the Baby character), the direction was rather amateurish. Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on Rob; after all, it is his first film. The editing of this movie was frenetic at best with no smooth flow from one scene to the next. Maybe if Rob hired a better editor, HOUSE would have been a decent movie. While the movie wasn't THAT bad, it certainly wasn't THAT good either. Altogether, I thought HOUSE was just so bland. Expected better. But didn't get it.
Rating: Summary: Boring movie Review: "The movie does lack suspense, scare and shock value, but it is very enjoyable and entertaining." Above is an actual quote from a review who gave this garbage movie 4.5 stars. At one point I switch from this movie to watch baseball. Nothing original....nothing suspenseful,...nothing that reaches into you mind to make you think or worry or fear. Just random images of gore. Trust me, if you saw CNN show the bodies of Uday and Qusay then there is nothing in this movie that could scare you. Does anyone over 18 still get scared just be seeing blood or dead bodies??? How many times can this be rehased before its just not fun. Another positive reviewer said if you loved the texas chainsaw massaccre etc the youll love this one. Thats the whole point. What fun is there in watching a movie that is exactly like another movie?
Rating: Summary: Good old fashioned throw back. Review: There is nothing to this movie but gore and blood. It is a good old fashioned throw back to the horror movies of yore. It is not scary, just gross. You are never in the throes of suspense and you really do not care that everyone is gonna die. You actually will find yourself wanting everyone to die. And, lucky for you, they all do. The one major flaw is towards the end. It is the introduction of the supernatural. It almost seems as if you have left this movie to embark on a living dead sequal to then be spit back out in to this movie. But then again, who cares, you are not watching this so you can think and ponder. You are watching it to see people get hacked to death and see blood dripping on everything. Death, blood and gore. Nothing more, nothing less....
Rating: Summary: Worth Buying for sure Review: I loved the movie when it came into the theaters and with the dvd you have many many many extra features including a candid knock-knock joke session entitled "tiny fu*k*d a stump". Amazing, I rarely buy dvds but am glad i shelled out the 20 bucks for this one. Actually it was 19.07 but who's counting.
Rating: Summary: A good blast of old school horror style Review: Most horror films that try to come out these days suck, but even though this film wasn't scary it had all the good twisted elements of old horror films, some twisted actors you would never believe acted normal for a minute, and scenes that look like white zombie cover inserts come to life. I've only rented it so far, having missed the movie premere since I was overseas, but I knew of it and wasn't disappointed when I finally saw it. Anyone with a love of old school horror movies should find some connection with this, it is definitely worth your time to see it at least once, but I'm buying it soon to add to my collection.
Rating: Summary: A good dvd and movie!!! Review: I liked this movie, it was good. I liked all the actors. I liked sheri moon. the grandpa was funny. The dvd has good features.
Rating: Summary: HATED IT! Review: one watches or goes and sees a movie because they haven't seen it before, unless its a sequel then your going to see a continuation of the original movie, and you know this.. and yes i know rob zombie was going for a film that was like texas chainsaw massacre but the problem was it should have been titled that with some number on the end as another sequel. if you've seen all the texas chainsaw movies, including the next generation then when you watch house of 1000 corpses you'll see my point.its a [copy]of all them films.don't get me wrong i love those films but it is very disappointing to know rob zombie made this movie, he's seems like someone who's original. instead he just slightly changed the type of characters and the feel for the movie. and for all the hype this movie got,why would a company ban this movie? theres better gore/death scenes in movies like jasonX for crying out loud.all this movie has is alot of swearing- so it was most likey banned for that reason. i'm just thankful i rented this movie and didn't buy it. i own all of those classic killer flicks(texas, jason, etc), serial killer films and so much more. and i will not be adding house of 1000 coprses to that list. it was very disappointing and to big of a [copy]on rob zombie's behalf (to like or want to own it). 'SAD BUT TRUE'
Rating: Summary: it had potential Review: this movie was a lot like the texas chain saw massacure in some ways, but it was way more bizarre, which took away from the movie. it had a good plot but the cut secnes were a little to much and didn't help the movie at all they just got annoying. i think if the movie was the people trying to escape from doctor satan and not the hillbillies the whole movie it would be way more cool an a better movie. i thought the guy with the axe at the end was really cool and should have been in the movie more. i just think they whole dr. satan was a good idea and if was in the movie more could have been really cool
Rating: Summary: Decent, but not as good as it should and could have been... Review: It starts up on a rather vulgar note, which instantly makes you wonder how the film's going to be. Luckily, the conversation about Planet of the Apes figurines is only present in the demented minds of those two characters. The movie quickly picks up the pace into what becomes a rather interesting movie of the genre. Though many have complained about the grainy cut-scenes, I found them to be an interesting throwback to Natural Born Killers, and one of the better things Zombie put his directing skills to. There were a few unnecessary uses of inverted colors and split screens, but not enough to truly detract from the movie. In general though, I'd say Rob Zombie's directing looks too professional for the type of movie he was going for. The movie did not have the amount of taboos I would have come to expect either, the gore was mostly kept to a minimum, which was a big mistake. The set design was excellent, and made for an interesting contrast against the grim rain which appeared outside. The only thing that has really kept me from liking this movie to an extent that I'd buy it is the ending. I believe once they were dropped down into the Dr. Satan pit, it became very stupid. The zombies really made no sense and Dr. Satan himself didn't really fit in. Rob Zombie should have stuck to the family and their twisted views (Otis should have had much more attention placed upon him, being the non-conformist, artsy character) instead of bringing cyborg storm troopers into the mix. I also must say that the ending sequences made use of a slow motion tactic that was quite annoying and made the ending that much more unlikable. Overall, a decent film, it just had some faults that should have been taken care of in the editing room... I'd suggest watching this movie, but I'm going to watch until a Director's Cut comes out before I consider purchasing it.
