Rating: Summary: one scene short of the worst movie ever Review: Ok, so I actually like the style of Rob Zombie ...I think he is a throwback to the famous monsters of filmdom, old scary comic books etc. I didn't expect this to be good, but I expected it to be stylish. This is just a terrible movie, with one great scene. The scene includes the song "I(ll remember you", and has a lot of slow motion. I think the movie should've ended there, and left out the bunny suits, and the wearing of the skin and the incredibly unsatifactory ending. Zombie was quoted as saying he wanted a movie where the bad guys win. This skews the whole film, as the "good guys" are so unlikeable, but the bad guys are beyond creepy. What really annoys me is that it was a total waste of my time, and I still get creeped out when I pass any element of white trash in my neighborhood. I don't hate things as a rule, and this was pretty much a hateful experience. And for those people who didn't think this was gory or violent...please never invite me over for dinner.
Rating: Summary: What Just Happened Review: I bought this the first day it was out and began to watch it. I am a huge Rob Zombie fan and when he annouced that his film was in the works I knew I would have to see it. It begins with 4 kids driving home when they stop to get gas, and when the legends of Dr. Satan gets to 1 of them they all go along. When watching this I had to ask myself if this was really the movie or was I watching a freak show. The fact the movie is disturbing and does that funky fade through sences, multi colored and music going on.You want to cheer the 4 kids on but you find your self wondering if you should cheer the teisted family instead.
Rating: Summary: It's all been done before, and better. Review: I'm not saying this is a really bad flick, it just follows all the horror conventions and borrows heavily from genre pieces that came before it. The most obvious homage is to Texas Chainsaw Massacre; Family of redneck sickos terrorize traveling teens for fun and food. Main difference? Where Massacre had a hitch-hiking psycho grundge ridden skinny boy, Zombie casts a relatively hot psycho chick instead. The family lives in the big house where the kids get stuck and there's a "twist" toward the end that reveals a here to for unmentioned family member. Tobe Hopper should have gotten a writing credit. There is plenty of blood and gore to keep the slasher fans happy, but (if memory serves) little titilating nudity. The teenagers are properly oblivious to the intentions of the nut-jobs and I was pretty happy to see them get hacked to pieces. If they were stupid enough to hang around that place with everything that they were told, saw and should have been smelling once they got there... well... They got what they deserved. One thing I was pretty impressed with was the navigation menu. A character from the film actually berates the watcher until they make a selection and then eggs them on if there's a menu that follows. That brought a smile to my face. Pity it was pretty much the only reaction I had to this film. If you're new to horror films you might get more out of it than I did, but if you've seen the classics you'll want to pop them in again and see horror done right.
Rating: Summary: Well, More Like One and Half Star Review: This is one of those movies that I was really interested in seeing since it had been dropped by not one but TWO film studios. Well, that should have been the tip of the iceburg on how "House of 1000 Corpses" is not a very good movie. Rocker Rob Zombie spices his directoral debut with things from movies that he obviously loves, like "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "The Evil Dead", but you would probably be happier sticking with those movies instead of this one. The plot is simple enough: a group of twentysomethings find themselves at a house full of maniacs. Mayhem ensues. You've seen it done a million times before, but never as overtly gory and hateful as in this movie. Zombie seems to enjoy torturing the victims, believeing that this is scary, but really its just gross. Not that you particullarly care who lives our dies here: all of the charactors are so thinnly sketched, that you never really care what happens to anyone in the film. And the ending? Let's just say that it makes little to no sense. That said, there are a few saving graces of the film. ZOmbie has an excellent visual style, and the Captain Spalding charactor is fun to watch, as played by Sid Haig. A whole movie about that dude? NOw that would have ben fun. But, for the most part, "House of 1000 Corpses" is a forgettable movie. Stick with "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Evil Dead" instead.
Rating: Summary: hillarious, fun, bloody, ridiculous Review: With this film director Rob Zombie epitomizes the classic slasher flicks like the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Last House on the Left, etc. This movie is funny, bloody, colorful, interesting, an absurd farce, a tounge-in-cheek satire, brilliant. I love it.
Rating: Summary: A Fun Halloween Movie Review: I was more interested in this film than I thought I would be. I am sure you know the plot by now. Kids driving cross country, get side tracked into small town, and encounter killer hillbilly psychos. The first encounter is at a gas station/funhouse. The kids stop to fuel up and take a funhouse ride through a chamber of horrors. This was a fun scene and I love funhouse rides, so ofcourse I loved this scene. The props in this scene are exceptional. Next the kids decide to go investigating the local urban legend "Dr. Satan". This is where the fun begins. They encounter a hitch hiker who lures them back to a house in the middle of nowhere. Here they encounter the dreadful psycho family. I saw lots of inspiration from other films such as: Scarecrows, Rocky Horror, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, to name a few. The props in the house are wonderful and the mood of the house is successfully bizaare. It was nice to see Karen Black in this film, and I believe she gave the best performance. The last scene where the last surviving teen gets plunged into some crazy underground community is pretty cool. Almost frightening. This film isn't as bad as some critics say, but it isn't as good as some reviewers say either. It is a fun film for Halloween time and would be great to view at a Halloween party. It isn't a brilliant film, I don't know if it will be a classic, but if you aren't a film snob and don't take it too seriously it can be a fun ride.
Rating: Summary: Highly Derivative but cool atmosphere Review: House of 1,000 corpses was a little disappointing after all of the hype, but Rob Zombie knows how to set the atmosphere even though the use of grainy cuts ala Natural Born Killers is more irritating than anything else and garbles the movie down. The best parts of the movie are the beginning "Captain Spaulding" and the end where we get see "Dr Satan" the rest is just a lame rehash of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It would have been a better movie if it focused more on Captain Spaulding. As for gore and violence it comes up pretty light fare as well as too few nude scenes. But it does have a different feel to it than most other standard hollywood attempts at horror and may be worth a look.
Rating: Summary: verry disappointed Review: this movie is not gory or violent at all. i cant wait for the unrated version tho which should b better. this movie is actually pretty well made and has a pretty cool atmosphere but isnt that good. opening scene is pretty cool, captain spaulding is funny as hell, and this is a good dvd. hopefully house of 1000 corpses 2 is better.
Rating: Summary: A True Horror Movie Review: This movie was scary. When I watched it it reminded me of the way the old slasher flicks made me cringe. It defiantly had me looking away at a few parts. This movie was far from boring, it kept me on my toes and I could never tell what would happen next. If you liked Hannibal and don't mind being scared you'll like this one.
Rating: Summary: not even close Review: Not even close to living up to the hype...maybe if it had been the full uncut version as it was meant to be...if you're looking for gore or massive amounts of violence buy a japanese or european film, this is lame. Couldn't have ripped off TCM and TCM2 more without bringing out a chainsaw. Visual style was also a heavy rip of Natural Born Killers.
