Rating: Summary: Cute, Nice Time Spending Review: This one's really cute. Simple frame story - girl moves to a new town, girl meets strange girls, with even stranger hobbies. As they get off the bus in the movie, the bus driver tells them "Watch out from the wierdos".. so they answer "We are the wierdos".. That they are. It's so refreshing to finally see (well, it's a 96 movie, so the use of the word "finally" isn't appropriate) a teenage movie that has more in it than sex and parties. That is a plus, the movie does not go there, although it had its opportunities, since it takes place in that age vicinity and is, I suppose, intended for teenagers. Don't get me wrong. It's not a deep movie. There's a lot of hocus-pocus going around, which can be pleasant to toy with in your own mind and imagine what could happen if this movie had any connection to reality. However, there is that little pinch of realness, where each girl faces her own fears and thoughts using the magic, wanting to let it all go. I liked this. It's a cute movie, with nice graphic and sound FXs. Not a must, but sure is not a waste of time.
Rating: Summary: Haunting Tale Review: Haunting tale about witchcraft in today's society and what it can unleash if you don't watch it. Great acting by 4 teenage girls. People scared of creepy crawly things better watch out!
Rating: Summary: Fairuza Balk is an great psycho! Review: This movie was one of my favorits, all of the cast is great but its easy to see who made this film great. Fairuza Balk has great cheamistry with all of the cast, mabey more so with robin tunney than the rest but it dosen't matter she deserves to be known as the star of this movie even if robin tunney is ment to be.
Rating: Summary: Get your leading-lady fixes in better films Review: I'll watch Fairuza Balk in anything. I'll watch Robin Tunney in even more anything. I've been told by many wiccan-type friends that the reason this movie has become such an underground hit (aside from Balk's trademark-goth style of dress) is that the spellcasting, etc., is pretty much accurate. Okay, that's all well and good, and again we've got a good ensemble cast backing up the lead foursome, we've got a half-decent plot (imagine the vagaries of high school friendship when magic is involved!), and this time we actually have a script that works well. But for some reason, it doesn't all gel correctly. The Balk/Tunney chemistry-- and you do need chemistry, even in a rivalry-- never really gets off the ground. Skeet Ulrich, at least in this film, is utterly talentless. Worth a buck movie rental if you feel like staring at Balk and Tunney, but you can do more of both in American History X (and we all know how I feel about that one) and End of Days (which is worth a buck rental for a memorable Tunney scene... though only that scene) respectively.
Rating: Summary: It's a good one, controversy or not. Review: Too many nay-sayers for this movie. I'm sorry, but if you want a movie about witchery, a fictional film is not the way to go. Rent a documentary and gawk your eyes out; this movie is for entertainment purposes only. The effects could have been better, of course, and the ending was absolutely sub-par. But the movie was excellent, as a whole.Nancy (Fairuza Balk) and two of her friends are outcasts at school - they are tagged as 'promiscuous' and, secretly, are witches. Sarah (Robin Tunney) is a newcomer to town, and joins this circle of witchcraft to feel accepted; along the way she discovers her inherent powers of witchcraft. Nancy gets herself in too deep, and so on, and so on. Fairuza Balk made this movie great. I have to say, she makes an excellent psycho. Neve Campbell I hold biases for; she's one of my favorites, and this supportive role was another solid performance from her. The role of Robin Tunney could have been filled better, but Robin was by no means bad. The plotline is immersive, and I have to say that no matter how many times I see this movie it intrigues me. I really enjoyed this one.
Rating: Summary: Oh please! Review: This *wasn't* a very good movie on it's own merits, and the only reason it got so much attention was because it was a well-promoted flick about a controversial topic. The acting is barely passable, the direction is lousy, and the only outstanding thing about the movie is the soundtrack! Furthermore, anyone with any sense can tell that this movie is NOT about Wicca or the Craft, but is Hollywood's concept of what will sell a movie. If you're in the mood for some fluffy mindless entertainment, this movie is for you. If you're interested in learning about the Craft as religion or magic, buy a few good books and remember that movies are pure fiction!
Rating: Summary: Crafty Review: This is definately one of the best flms I ever saw.Although all the characters were weird,Nancy was the best.Only Dorothy from 'Return to Oz'(Feruza Balk)could play a Phsyco that well.
Rating: Summary: An amusing dark comedy horror flick... Review: A cool film that bares resemblence to THE LOST BOYS. Good acting and good F/X this is a good teen horror flick...
Rating: Summary: My favouarite film. Review: I must have seen this film over 30 times. It is no doubt the best film I have ever seen. Fairuza Balk was excelent for the role of Nancy and Robin Tunney was also very good. Neve Cambell and Rachel True are very good actors and were superb. The only thing that I didn't really like was the fact that at the end of the film Nancy (Fairuza Balk) got punished and as usuall "good" wins. Other from that this film is wonderfull and I wish I had the opportunity to see it more often. Buy this film or at least rent it.
Rating: Summary: review from Illinois Review: I found this movie to be one of the best I have ever seen. I couldn't keep my eyes off of the screen. I have always been interested in Wicca, and this movie made me even more interested. I realize that most of what happened in the movie is glamorized, but the whole concept is pretty much real. I would recommend this to everyone.
