Summary: EXCELLENT DVD quality!
Review: Francis Ford Coppola's BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA is a dramatically and artistically sophisticated interpretation of the novel. Of the modern film versions produced since the Hammer Studios series with Christopher Lee, this is by far the best in terms of production values, acting and dramatic interest.

A fine cast with Winona Ryder, Gary Oldman, Keanu Reeves and Anthony Hopkins make for a well-played horror drama. The photography and special effects are superb and frighteningly effective. The DVD's widescreen presentation is literally picture-perfect with crisp visuals and fantastic surround sound.

The colors are richly saturated especially in the red and black tones. Color, especially red figures importantly in the visual aspect of telling the Dracula tale. The eerie spectral voices for some of the most intense vampire scenes I've ever seen are provided by Diamanda Galas. You won't hear more authentic moaning or screaming in any modern vampire film. This is a great version of Dracula to be 'savored' on a stormy, windy and of course, very dark night with the lights turned off!

Well worth the money for the DVD versus the video. Saw this in its original theatrical release and loved it. You won't be disappointed with viewing it on DVD in your living room.

Summary: Great love story, poor DVD
Review: Bram Stoker's Dracula certainly deserved a better DVD. Image and audio quality are very good, but don't expect nothing beyond this. Not even a trailer. Well, there's a side A/B option for fullscreen/widescreen. That's all. The movie is fantastic. Coppola is great at telling love stories - remember One From The Heart? Interestingly, he also associated some vampires acts with a high level of eroticism, just like it's supposed to be in this case, producing unforgettable sequences. Also, the movie is about love, not about frightening viewers. But the best, in my opinion, is Dracula's shadow, which is the free expression of his feelings, almost always acting by itself. It's amazing how Coppola manages to create a masterpiece without the best casting, and also without being intrusive. But that's the trademark of good directors - to produce the best no matter how. Great movie - 4 stars. Poor DVD - 2 stars.

Summary: "Bram Stocker" Dracula????
Review: The movie itself is not that bad, what I didn't like is why they named it "Bram Stocker's Dracula". While the book itself is great, the movie could also had been great if it wasn't for the the love story between Mina and Dracula, which has nothing to do with the book, while in Bram Stocker's Dracula Mina is, maybe the most interesting character and one of the most important ones, in the movie they changed the whole concept of this character... the love story doesn't fit quite well in the plot of the movie!

Summary: LOVE NEVER DIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: In Bram Stoker's Dracula,Coppola returns to the original source of the Dracula myth,Vlad Tepes.Gary Oladman stars as Prince Dracula who grows from old to young, from man to beast-is nothing short of amazing.Winona Ryder stars as Mina Murray who becomes the object of Dracula's devastating desire.Anthony Hopkins costars as Van Helsing who dares to belive in Dracula, and then dares to confront him.Keanu Reeves costars as Jonathon Harker a reel Estate agent who gets held captive in Dracula's castle but then escapes to get to Mina.Sadie Frost brings the role of a young maiden named Lucy who becomes Dracula's first victim.Cary Elwes and Richard E.Grant also star.Opulent, dazzling, and utterly irresistible, this is Dracula as you've never seen him.And once you see BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA you'll never forget it!I think this film should be 13 and due to nudity, gore, and violence.

Summary: Love that crosses oceans of time
Review: This movie follows in the footsteps of great love stories such as Romeo and Juliet. Filled with gallons of blood, this movie bring a suitable amount of gore to this classic love story. There is a certain amount of over acting and some dodgy english accents from Winona Ryder and especially Keanu Reeves, but if you can look past those you have a wonderful gothic horror/romance that will transcend time.

Summary: A visual feast - an OK adaptation...
Review: Anyone hoping to make it in the world of filmmaking would do well to look at the works of Francis Ford Coppola (well, his earlier works, anyway). "Bram Stoker's Dracula," is certainly no exception, though I feel I should point out a few negative aspects. First, the film is great when viewed as a living work of art; Coppola uses every cinematic trick in the book to bring the world of the Count to life, and does so with exceptional flair. However, as an adaptation of Mr. Stoker's famous novel, it fails in many places. For instance, not once in the novel does Stoker make a direct reference to Walachian ruler Vlad Dracula (or Vlad Tepes - the Impaler), nor does he ever make it clear why Dracula chose the dark path he has walked for centuries. In the film, it is said that Dracula renounced God upon learning of his wife's suicide, and vowed to live for all time until she could be avenged - thus becoming an all-powerful vampire. This is certainly a touching addition, and the film does not truly suffer from it. In fact, the film does not suffer from any of the inaccuracies within. No, the film is certainly great, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in Dracula, vampires in general, or Francis Ford Coppola. The biggest problem had nothing to do with the novel, but a performace - Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker. I still cannot fathom why Coppola allowed such a stiff, monotone actor to take on the role of such a vital character. His inclusion is a dark blot on an otherwise beautiful portrait. The other actors are all quite exceptional, especially Gary Oldman as the Count and Anthony Hopkins as Abraham Van Helsing. The good out-weighs the bad, as one can plainly see; "Bram Stoker's Dracula" would certainly make a fine addition to anyone's DVD collection.

Summary: (Violent But Romantic)
Review: I loved the movie!!!! I will love it forever and I have two reasons why that I liked the movie because 1. when the wear wolf bumrushed the room and bit Lucy and then the nex thing you konw blood was splashed everywhere. 2. when Dracul turned into that wolf I though he was going to look even scarrier but he wasn't and the four thigns that are romantic abou the movie is 1. Is when dracula turned young again he saw Mina walking down the street and my favorite tune comes on and and he was staring at her. 2. Is when Mina and Dracula was in the theater I think they were in and he was about to bite her but he didn't and then the white wolf came and everybody was screaming and hollaring!! and when Mina came to that point where the wolf was at and the animal was about to bite her too since Dracula came and every thing went smoothly and then he told Mina to come to him and pet the wolf and when she came closer to the wolf and startted to pet the animal and the other tune that came was romantic too 3. Now that's when Dracula and Mina were alone togather and they weren't interupted at that point and when dracula said that he would give her eternal life and wants her to be his loving wife forever and so she agreeded with him on that. 4. When Mina was suckin the blood form his chest and then he was hugging her tightly and and there was another tune that I was really in love with so much and I just have to record that part over and over and over and over again!!! And my FAVORITE part from the rest of the movie was of course the ending the music sounds she beautiful!!! and I rate that as the #1 list of all time!!!!

Summary: Drac and Ted's Big Adventure
Review: Keanu Reeve's excrable performance amid an otherwise excellent cast threatens to take the whole film down with it. Only Copolla's rock-steady vision, combined with Oldman's astonishing performance as the man/beast Dracula preserve the glory of this enduring myth. Part tribute, part remake, Copolla eschews modern special effects and deliberately uses only effects possible in Todd Browning's day. A clever prologue and epilogue leave the original novel fairly intact while adding immensely to the story's meaning and depth. Embued with this extra dimension, Drac rises from the level of mere spooky monster to that of classic tragic figure. Coppola also manages to flesh out Stoker's wooden victorians with some entertaining human touches. Why not five whole stars? Reeve's performance will make you squirm; you actually feel embarrassed for him.

Summary: Wasted potential
Review: When Dracula first came out, I thought with Stoker's name in the title, this was going to be "faithful" to the original vision. Not to mention the name of Francis Ford Coppola (who's career had been nose diving since Apocalypse Now) was also welcome. Boy was I in for a surprise. One very weak aspect of this film is the forcing of a "love story" down our throats. And the silly reincarnation theme throws everything out of shape. But this is really nothing compared to the casting choices that were made. Dracula may very well be one the finest examples of the most misused casting ever in the history of carbon-based life. Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder? Who told them they could do British accents?? Christ, I've heard high school Drama students that sounded more believable. Keanu especially sounding like the kind of chump whose teeth all good people want to kick out whenever he opens his petulant mouth.

And I love the way Dracula is allowed to walk around during the day just so Coppola can include a pointless moment when someone catches him on motion picture film, an invention around the time. I have to say that if you're going to break all these conventions of the genre, why copy the work that CREATED those conventions? Just make up your own story, and don't hype it as the first faithful version of Dracula! And last but not least, Gary Oldman? Like it or not, he doesn't have one ounce of the charisma or physical presence to be THE Prince of Darkness. Bram Stoker's Dracula is a story that should be so easy to get right, but instead filmmakers like Coppola keep getting it wrong, wrong, and wrong again.

Summary: Dracula
Review: This is an excellent movie that blends the orignal Bram Stroker novel with outstanding special effects and superb acting. The mix of romance into the film made it all the better. This film takes you to two different levels: 1. it frightens you and 2. makes you feel a hint of sorrow not for the heroes but for the Count the villian of the film. Excellent writing and directing also. Highly recommend
