Summary: In response to a previous review...
Review: In response to Bobby Abbassi's review of July 6, 2004....excuse me, Einstein, but the book and movie both had the spelling of PET SEMATARY (with an S) because that is how it was spelled in Stephen King's book by an illiterate character. If you had read the book, you would know this. And for your information, the correct spelling of the word itself is "cemetery" with an "e." Aside from that, I concur that this is one of the most terrifying and disturbing movies ever made. You will want to check under the bed before climbing in every night if you see this movie.

Summary: Effectively Disturbing!
Review: After reading Stephen King's novel "Pet Sematary" and being a little disturbed by it, I figured that I would rent the movie to see what a terrible adaptation some money-hungry fellow made. After viewing the film I was quite surprised. The first half of the film starts out nice with a happy family enjoying thier new rural home. But then we see the second half of the film in which all turns to hell. After Gage is killed you can't help but feel bad, no one wants to see a boy that cute skin his knee let alone what happens to him in this film. The performances in the film were mostly well done, especially from Fred Gwynne (Jud Crandall), Denise Crosby (Rachel Creed) & Miko Hughes (Gage Creed). The Pet Sematary novel was meant to be disturbing, and this film certainly is just that. Most likely the reason people hate this film and think it's sick is because they too were disturbed by it. It's definitely not a film to give you a positive outlook on life, but I guess that's what makes it such an effective horror film.

Summary: Worst book adaption ever!
Review: This review is only for those who read the book and hoped for a good adaption as I did. The movie has a few creepy moments and Fred Gwynn is good as Jud Crandell but thats about it.Pet Semetary is still my favorite story by King, really scary! The movie [in my opinion] is loose and very weak!

Summary: King Is Better Than This
Review: let me say that i haven't read the Pet Sematary novel by stephen king, but i am a fan of his. i'm not sure if the novel is this weak, but the movie certainly is. i must give it credit for being a werid and slightly (yet childishly) creative film, but it still turned out to be a disapointment. a family moves into a small strange town where there is a graveyard for pets, but apast that graveyard is a larger one of an indian burial ground where whatever is buried there comes back to life in an evil way. i'm sure king made this story work very well in the novel, but on screen he must've chosen the wrong crew. the cast worked well--including an aged Fred Gwene (Herman Munster) proving that he can act quite well. as the movie went on from the beginning, it kept getting worse and worse. sooner or later in this film, the plot is screwed over by silly and quite boring horror cliches. it was scary on some parts (that first scene with the sick sister was freaky as hell) but for the most part it was almost laughable. the family's boy ends up dying and the father (who learns of the burial ground's powers through fred's character) takes the dead son and buries him there. of course, he comes back like a friggin damien/chucky. by the end of the film, i think i finally understood the point of its sense of humor and realized that this is in no way supposed to be a seriously good film. and with that in mind, its worth 3 stars. its good, but only worth rental money if you ask me.

Summary: One of the better Stephen King film adaptations
Review: Of the countless Stephen King novels which have been adapted into major motion pictures and TV movies and mini-series, Pet Sematary ranks among the best adaptations. The fateful move of a family from Chicago to life in the country has drastic consequences when a local (Fred Gwyne) introduces a pet cematary to the father of the family (Dale Midkiff) when the family cat is killed. After the animal is buried, it returns days later, but there is something noticibly different about it. Later on, when Midkiff's young son (Miko Hughes) dies, well, you can guess what happens next if, for some reason, you've never seen this movie before. What makes this novel to screen conversion work is the chilling atmosphere, masterfully crafted by director Mary Lambert, who would also helm the sequel a few years later. What also helps make Pet Sematary work is the performance of Miko Hughes (you can see him in Wes Craven's New Nightmare and Spawn), whom at a young age, was superbly chilling as well once he returns from the grave. Bloody, scary, and despite a few flaws, Pet Sematary is a real treat for horror afficiondos, and if you've never seen it you should give it a look.

Summary: What you own always comes home to you
Review: Pet Cemetery is one of Stephen King's best novel to movie stories. It is extremely hard to find movies with my fellow coworkers that we both agree were good movies. This is one of those movies across the board, that if you grew up in the 80's, and watched this movie sometime before you were fifteen, you have a strong recollection of this movie, and you remember how good it was.

Mary Lambert, who may be better known for directing Madonna's Material Girl video, is also the director of this masterpiece. As far as movies and TV, she directed Pet Cemetery II (it was very bad as I remember), a Tales from the Crypt episode (Collection Completed), and Bobby Brown's video: My Prerogative.

Lambert does a very good job of depicting a family from the city, adjusting the country life, and dealing with the changes. She also does a fabulous job of making you feel the King aspect, let me explain. Having read several King books, he tries to add little "sub" stories, that has nothing to do with what's really going on, but they are extremely twisted stories. An example of this is the story of the mother's sister, and her dealing with that spinal disease. The mothers sister has nothing to do with the story of the Pet Cemetery, however, that side story scars in a way that is surprising and demented.

Dale Midkiff (from the TV series The Magnificent Seven) plays the father, and does it extremely well. He does not overly depict his emotion, but enough so that you almost grasp what he is going through. You definitely feel his character is stern, to the point, and has control over himself, the situation, and everything leading up until the end.

Fred Gwynne (Herman Munster) plays the morbid neighbor, who helps the family, gives them information about the neighborhood, and advice to relay to their children about the new aspects that will appear in their lives growing-up in the country.

Denise Crosby (Deep Impact, Star Trek: The Next Generation, and 48 hours) plays the mother in the movie, which is not settled in her move to Maine, misses her family in Chicago, but is extremely emotional. She also has a very stressful past, and she played that emotional scene to perfection, and her character was developed well by Lambert.

In conclusion, this is a must have King movie. Pet Cemetery is one of the great horror movies from the 80's. I am actually disappointed in myself for not watching it this past Halloween. I believe this is a must have in your DVD collection that you can feel safe buying before viewing.

Summary: Disturbing, yet sad
Review: Pet Sematary is a very scary and disturbing movie, yet at the very end you can't help but feel sorry for an entire family torn apart by death. Trust me, this is worth the Saturday night pick, I own it and would recommend it!

Summary: Ok movie!
Review: I'm not in agreement here with the other reviewers saying this is a great film. It is just simply too far-fetched to be taken seriously. There are scary elements in the film and some scares, but it just isn't a very good story to begin with.
I'll give this a generous 3 Stars because I liked some of the scares.
