Summary: pinhead isn't the star!
Review: why oh why is this film not remembered for Andrew Robinsons outstanding performance? He is the heart of the story! Anyway, the family being metaphorically, and incidentally literally, torn apart is what makes this a five star movie. So please, ignore the monsters and give the story a chance.

Summary: Truly a Classic!
Review: This is, in my humble opinion, the most original horror film ever. At the same time, it also proves to be one of the most gruesome, disturbing, intelligent, and intense horror films I have ever seen, only outdone by it's sequel, Hellbound. When was the last time you saw a movie where a person is brought back to life one layer at a time (It will make more sense once you see the movie). A must own piece of art.

Summary: Watch & Admire
Review: Seeing this film, you have to wonder if Mr. Barker couldn't benefit from some time under the care of a doctor. But then you think, if it'd stop him producing stuff like this, it's too high a price to pay. The story is original, the Pinhead makeup incredible & the effect when the blood first brings back Frank hasn't yet been matched!

For a film which basically deals with horror & fantasy, it's surprisingly believeable and all the better for it. Don't buy any small wooden boxes until you've seen it.

Summary: TRUE HORROR
Review: this is it. TRUE HORROR in its rawest, purest, and realist form. this isn't your typical slasher flick, no, this is simply the best work of a great artist (clive barker). this film is very dark and gritty that it will have even the most skeptical in complete shock. the cenobites are what made this film what it is....rawness. Even though the story is incomplete w/o part 2 one can see that this film is the beginning of a masterpiece which, unfortunately was only run to the ground after part 2.

Summary: It's Okay.
Review: "Hellraiser", in my opinion, is not all that great. It's definitely an enjoyable film, but not great by any means. It's got a hauntingly surreal quality to it, which makes it quite interesting to watch, as well as lots of blood and gore. The story is somewhat interesting as well. This makes it entertaining, but not anything more than that.Worth a rent.

Summary: Torn between okay and sucky
Review: Very complicated flick about married woman who starts to have fantasies of a former lover who was captured by angels from hell. To make the long story short: great performances but a REALLY pitiful final product. Not scary at all! Just gross and sick. BOO and YAH!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Scary!
Review: I'm just curious to know when are "Hell on Earth" and "Bloodline" going to be released on DVD? Would also be nice to see all released in a Boxed Set. This movie is a classic and a must have for any true, die hard horror fans.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Awesome - But Technical Problems With DVD!
Review: This movie is a KILLER (no pun intended) of a horror movie. There is no horror better - from one die hard horror fan, this is it. The movie itself was 5 stars, but getting 4 because Hellraiser I and II are the only DVDs I ever got that didnt play sound on my setup and never knew why. I had to settle with VHS :(

Summary: Scary? No, just very bloody and violent
Review: Hellraiser is a display of graphic violence over any form of scares. This could be a good reason why Roger Ebert gave this movie 1/2 of a star out of 4. It creates such bloody imagery without thinking of scaring the audience first.

Those who were scared by the underrated Event Horizon might actually find something to like in Hellraiser. The plot is about a mystical box that's known as the Lament Configuration. When solved, it opens the gateway to hell, literally. The Cenobites come through and offer a twisted combination of pleasure and pain, with perhaps the emphasis mostly on pain. One such man, Frank, becomes bored with his life and decides to purchase this configuration. He actually solves the puzzle, but little does he know the consequences of his actions.

There's more of a plot to what I stated but it really doesn't lead to much at all. A few people are killed graphically violent in this film, and this is one of the bloodier movies I have seen, making me wonder why it wasn't rated X or at least threatened heavily.

If you are a Clive Barker fan, my recommendation to you is to not watch Hellraiser. I highly recommend Candyman, and I also suggest you to rather watch Nightbreed and Lord of Illusions instead of this flat movie.

Summary: Why does everyone like this movie so much?
Review: I gotta tell ya, I just don't understand why most people are so enthralled with this film. For years, I listened to people telling me I *had* to see this film. Well, I did, and it's mediocre at best. Too many things happen in the film without reason. Most bothersome of them is the reanimation of Frank from his brother's blood. No explanation of how or why this might have happened, it's simply happens. I understand that this is a film dealing with a non-physical realm but really, why would the filmmaker refuse to give me some explanation as to why these things happen? Oh, and somehow, demons who seem to have a rubber fetish just don't scare me that much. All in all, the appearance of the demons seemed laughably non-frightening to me. If you haven't seen it, I'd rent it before buying it. Lots of folks swear this is a good, scary movie...I'm just not one of them.
