Rating: Summary: gotta give at least 1 for effort Review: Just as I was getting into being scared, there came them old credits and the whole audience sat there, looking at each other, saying "What happened?" I think shoulda taken it out a stretch further...oh well, a good enough movie when the weather is bad!!!
Rating: Summary: IF ONLY... Review: I REALLY ENJOYED THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT FOR WHAT IT IS, AN ORIGINAL WAY TO TELL/SELL A REALLY FRIGHTENING STORY WITH A REALISITC APPROACH. NO, IT DIDN'T SCARE THE HELL OUT OF WHILE WATCHING IT, NOR DID I SLEEP WITH THE LIGHTS ON, AND YES, I WAS ABLE TO SLEEP THAT NIGHT I SAW IT. THIS FILM DOES HAVE A LASTING EFFECT ON YOU THOUGH. IT WAS ACTUALLY MORE FRIGHTENING AFTERWARD....LIKE A FEW DAYS LATER WHEN I HAD TIME TO REALLY THINK ABOUT WHAT THE THREE FILMMAKERS EXPERIENCED. I THOUGHT OF MY MANY LONG CAMPING TRIPS AND HOW FRIGHTENING IT WOULD BE TO APPLY THEIR FICTIONAL FATE AND MY OWN REALITY. THE MIND KICKS INTO HYPERDRIVE AND IT IS MONSTERS IN THE CLOSET AND UNDER THE BED ALL OVER AGAIN! MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT I WISH THE COMPANION VIDEO DOCUMENTARY WAS ACTUALLY THE FIRST PART OF THE FILM. IT ANSWERED SO MUCH THAT THE FILM DIDN'T. GREAT FOR SETTING A MOOD. WATCH IT WITH THE LIGHTS OFF. A WORD OF WARNING...I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOLPE WHO GOT MOTION SICKNESS WATCHING IT.( AND I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST REALLY BAD POP CORN! ) MAYBE A DRAMAMINE BEFORE YOU POP THE TAPE IN??? I AM GLAD THAT THE COMPANION IS AVAILABLE ALONG WITH THE MOVIE. GO ON, GIVE IN, GO ALONG FOR THE RIDE AND PRETEND IT IS REAL, GIVE YOURSELF A GOOD SCARE! ....OK, IT WAS NO DEMI MOORE IN THE 7TH SIGN ( A TRUE STINKER! ) BUT THEY TRIED!! :^)
Rating: Summary: It made some of the audience puke!. Review: It would have been better if they kept the seceret of the real thing or the fake. It was good for a $30,000 movie and no grapics was cool, for once, but it was still good. I'm glad that they came out with a movie that is natural home video I hope that they nerver try to copy that kind of film making again with the motions
Rating: Summary: Don't believe the backlash --- see for yourself Review: I first heard about TBWP by reading a review of the screening at the Sundance Film Festival, back in March. I checked out the website. I was creeped out just from that, and couldn't adequately explain what the movie was about to my bewildered friends, all of whom I dragged to the theater when it finally opened in the summer (in Boston, by the way, we had to stand outside the one theater showing it in the whole state for 4 hours to get tickets). Those months of pondering the fragments of the story I knew did a number on me, because the movie SCARED THE BEJEESUS OUT OF ME, *even though I knew the plot and MANY of the details my friends (who were mostly unimpressed) did not*! I spent the last half hour curled in my seat, watching through one eye. I think the key to TBWP is to immerse yourself in all the supplemental info and footage, etc. on the web beforehand, because frankly when you know what the actors actually went through to film it, it's even more disturbing as you watch it. The film is cut so choppily that all traditional narrative construction is removed: there's no "buildup" to a recognizable "scary scene" as in most horror films (esp. b/c there's no music), it just suddenly cuts from the midafternoon to inside the tent at 3:00 in the morning, yikes! It's effects absolutely linger: I left on my stereo and bedside light all night the whole week after I saw it. The final scenes come into my mind when I'm walking from the bathroom to my bedroom after brushing my teeth at night! It's a mindbender, crude (and sometimes forced) but really powerful.
Rating: Summary: Will make you sick Review: No plot, No story, just a lot of film footage that is so unsteady it will make you physically sick.
Rating: Summary: not your usual spoonfeeding! Review: Upon seeing TBWP I had a chill in my back and my chest that took about2 hrs to subside. I was shocked by the brutal emotionalism, brought about by the fantastic acting, and the realistic feel of the photography, not to mention the bizzare plot. Comments I have heard from others include, "It was the dumbest movie I ever seen!", to "There was no special effects" and "How can you watch a movie without music" To call the most original heartstopper of the century, stupid is a gross miscarriage of justice. This movie will disturb the hell out of you!
Rating: Summary: Movie gave me a headache because she kept moving the camera Review: The movie was scary because I was in the theater by my self and it was dark so that didnt help any. However it was good and it did scare the hell out of me
Rating: Summary: Amateur is the key word Review: For those who want to bag this movie, counting it out as totally amateur and for bad acting. I can only say it was never meant to be a high budget film, yet it made high budget film money. How can you explain that? How many movies have you seen lately that have received so much press and attention? Please don't say Titanic either, talk about gross. It is one of the best amateur, bad acting films I have seen in a long time.
Rating: Summary: Why wasn't the witch ever seen? Review: I thought the movie was a little boring. The which was never seen through the whole movie. You never saw anyone die. Plus I got sick because the camera was shaking to much.
Rating: Summary: IF YOU HAVE ANY IMAGINATION AT ALL, YOU WILL APPRECIATE IT. Review: I HAVE SEEN AND HEARD IT ALL, AND I THINK THAT WHILE OPINIONS VARY,THIS IS ONE OF THE EASIEST MOVIES TO FALL INTO,YOU ACTUALLY FEEL LIKE YOU'RE IN THE WOODS AND PANICKING.FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DIDN'T CARE FOR THE MOVIE, I SUGGEST YOU STICK TO YOUR DISNEY COLLECTION, AND BE CONTENT WITH YOUR SPOON FED EXHISTENCE.
