Rating: Summary: What this movie lacks, makes it great!!! Review: Okay, okay, it was definitely over-hyped, but that's life in the late 90's. Anything news-worthy has to be milked for all its worth. However, The Blair Witch Project stands up to the hype. It leaves so much up to your imagination and that's where true fear is born. There is very little blood, there are many holes in the history of the witch, and no evil figure is ever revealed. You are forced to create part of the story on your own. All time is spent on character development and building suspense. You feel like you know these characters by the end of the movie and the mysterious nature of Josh's disappearence keeps you on edge the rest of the movie. I never thought I could be entertained by a black screen and sound effects, but this movie did just that. So, if you have an open mind and a good imagination, you will enjoy this movie and you will be afraid of the dark for days afterward.
Rating: Summary: Scared of twigs? Don't see this movie Review: If incredibly bad acting and lousy camera work is enough to scare you, BWP should tingle your spine or maybe that was your stomach about to lurch. This is a movie that offers up naseua as horror and no script to make it seem unpredictable.
Rating: Summary: Creepy and Chilling with great extra features Review: This movie was a nice change from the normal Holywood rubbish. It manages to chill the soul by delivering some amazingly creepy atmosphere (especially by using some brilliant sound effects). This is a winner for all concerned and the DVD has some fantastic design features as well excellent animated menus. The commentary is also fairly interesting: You have got to buy this disc NOW!
Rating: Summary: Doin alot with almost no budget Review: It is a great movie. I tried to ignore all reviews about the movie before I saw it, though it wasn't easy. I like these kinds of movies, where they have to work with no budget, unknown actors and almost no special effects. I mean, compare it with "Scream" or "I know what you did...", this is a real movie compared with them. This movie is dirty, raw and realistic and not so "Hollywood" as the other two mentioned. Theres not more I can say but: see it.
Rating: Summary: tedious until the last 15 minutes Review: i went to this movie expecting to be creeped out and disturbed, but instead found myself bored out of my skull and desperately hoping for something to come along and save this piece of dung. it finally happened towards the end, and it was truly creepy. too bad about the first hour and 10 minutes or so...probably would have been better if i hadn't known it was fiction.....
Rating: Summary: Use Your Imagination People! Review: This is one of the best horror movies of all time. And also one of the scariest. The reason some people are saying it wasn't scary at all, is because these people can't use their imaginations! They need blood or knives or gore because they can't think for them selves. Well that's what makes this movie so good! It goes in a different direction then other horror flix and makes people use their Imaginations.
Rating: Summary: Scare yourself out of the woods. Review: One of the best horror movies I have ever seen. The makers of this movie leave the doors wide open and let the viewer's imagination sketch the terror. If you have no imagination, or you need to be spoon fed buckets of blood stay away, this movie is not for you. If you retain some childhood fears or can still see shadows in the dark then this movie will terrify you. I was riveted to my seat the whole time and left the theater dazed and uncertain. If you have spent any time in the woods hiking or camping be especially weary, you may never want to go back again.
Rating: Summary: A very original thinking-man's thriller. Review: On the surface there is very little to this film. But to the intelligent, mature viewer who can watch a movie objectively, the Blair Witch delivers a creepy, disturbing experience. Forget the hype, and don't try to compare this to any other horror movie because nothing else comes close. The acting is completely believeable; you can feel their desperation. I saw this movie the first day it came out (before the hype), and believe me, for those last 5 minutes of the movie you could hear a pin drop in that theater. This movie is very entertaining, and the documentary is almost as good. For all those people who hated this movie: you missed the point; it's over your heads.
Rating: Summary: Didn't scare me at all in the theater, but later... Review: Couldn't sleep. Had nightmares when I did. Drove way out of my way to avoid the only woods in this city. Didn't even want to look at my sleeping bag, let alone a flashlight. Terrified of going anywhere in Maryland, which is hard if you live in DC. I'm just glad I saw this AFTER going on my big camping trip for the summer. In the theater I was distracted by the shaky camerawork and the endless bickering. Even the last 10 minutes didn't really scare me -- just seemed a little silly. But afterward, in thinking about it (the great thing is there are a lot of different ways to interpret what happened) and putting it all together? I was scared. The bottom line: it doesn't look great, and there's no slick editing or anything, but if you have half a brain in your head you will be scared.
Rating: Summary: The best horror-film since "The Shining" Review: Great!!! Wonderful!!! Fantastic!!! That's all I can say in English about this film. The best since Kubrick's "The Shining". This film changed the history of horror films. Sorry about my english. If I could write in portuguese, I probably could say more. Anyway, a masterpiece!!! The Best of the year (and one of the bests of all time)!!!!!
