Rating: Summary: Great Expectations but... Review: Read many positive reviews, saw the website, got excited, rented it, and was ultimately disappointed. The acting was shaky, the stage was poorly set, the film wasn't frightening or anxiety provoking. Maybe starting out with some faux newspaper clippings or news reports covering the "disappearance" as wll as clippings relating to past manifestations. Instead the locals are pretty cavalier about what was supposed to be some pretty disturbing events. The bundles of twigs, the stone piles; even with imagination they were in a minimal context and just not frightening. Perhaps some human bones arranged in a ritualistic fashion or other more disturbing allusions to the evil that was afoot. Instead I found it to be just what it was: a "mockumentary" with an original idea but the product didn't bear out the theory. "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer," was a film I found frightening, as was "The Exorcist." It's a fickle genre...
Rating: Summary: Trying to find a bus home was scarier Review: This film was definitely over-hyped in the UK. In terms of high-quality storyline, it failed miserably. In terms of scariness - well, go and see Plan 9 From Outer Space, or Star Trek 2 - they're far scarier. Maybe David Lynch should do a version, as there was a lot more suspense in the Lost Highway than this film. The scariest thing was that I'd swapped one of my many NIN tickets to see this film...
Rating: Summary: Perty cool, I'd say Review: WE were some of the people that had absolutely no clue what this movie was about when going into it. Scared the piss out of us completely. I had a 12-year-old latched onto my arm for the better half of the ending. IF you didn't hear about it, it blew you away. Had that effect on us. LOVED the ending, totally made you think. *yeah!*
Rating: Summary: If your IQ is less than 100, you will not get this movie Review: A campfire story come to life. Most people went into this expecting a movie. It's not. It's a documentary horror. If your a little slow (like some of the people who have posted reviews so far) you will not get this documentary so save yourself a few hours and buy the Scooby Doo Mysteries. You should be able to keep up with that.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Movie !!! Review: This is the best horror film I have ever seen. My past favorite was Halloween I, but this beats it 10 times over. If you like to be scared and glued to the screen buy this movie.
Rating: Summary: I am never going camping again!! Review: Regardless if you new the film wasn't based on truth or not, what a great concept. It scared me more after it was over and I had a chance to talk about it with my friends and compare notes. Turns out we all missed little things, that when revealed made the hair on our arms stand on end. I liken this film to the original "Haunting". Starring Julie Harris and made in the early 60's it's a bit dated, but frightening still. It too was not a big budget special fx extravaganza and you never see the ghosts, which made it all the more scary. How can you not be afraid of the things that you don't see? Isn't that the whole idea and basis for fear? Blair Witch is a must see and re-see.
Rating: Summary: Perfect Scare for Halloween Review: Great movie, although not for the squeamish or those prone to motion sickness. I'd say that the film is also not for small impressionable children, as it might be a little too intense. The camera footage and sound arent the best, so this is one of those films that you buy for the story alone. I saw this film on opening night in the theater, and would have to say that watching it on my home theater has the same chilling, spine tingling, edge-of-your-seat effect. This movie is a very intense psychological thriller, and is not for those that need their horror "spoon-fed" with no imagination or cognitive work involved (as with traditional horror movies). For DVD viewers, I highly recommend viewing the "Curse of the blair witch" and the other supplemental information BEFORE watching the film, as the film really requires an understanding of the "folklore" and the background behind the footage to really make the experience worthwhile.have a safe and Happy Halloween.. ...and dont get too scared. :)
Rating: Summary: Beyond Hype - True Fear Review: Okay, I refused to see this movie over the summer because of the excessive hype surrounding it. However, having nothing better to do this weekend, I rented it, turned out all of the lights and got scared out of my mind. It was absolutely the scariest movie I have ever seen. Why? The sheer psychological terror behind it. Not knowing what's going on a few steps away, stranges sounds in the night, losing control and fearing you've lost your sanity - this movie touches on all of those very basic, primal fears. No, you don't get your "money shot" and the ending is left somewhat up in the air, but man, anyone with an imagination could see and feel something much worse than what the best specials effects person could design. That was another thing that was great about the movie. "The Blair Witch" was something entirely different for my husband and me. We each envisioned our own worst nightmare and the movie made that terror come alive. We slept with the lights on that night. Buy this movie and be prepared to watch it through your fingers.
Rating: Summary: Great movie ! Review: This is one of the best horror films of the century. It ranks right up with the Excorsist. If you do not like movies without blood and gore, then don't waste your time. This is a true horror film. The terror is so real. You do not expect anything unlike most horror movies. That is what is so great about it. Definatly worth renting or buying!
