Rating: Summary: Super Movie, if you've read no reviews before you see it Review: If you see this movie without reading about it beforehand (is that really possible any more?), you're bound to be spellbound and absolutely dumbfounded, not to mention scared. If, on the other hand, you assume that it's all a fake while watching it, I expect that most of its magic will be lost on you -- it would be the equivalent of knowing who the killer is before you watch a popular thriller. So JUST RENT IT, and, assuming you've read nothing about it up to now, good! Keep it that way!
Rating: Summary: You have to be in the right frame of mind...... Review: Although this was not a professionally made movie, I felt it was very creative and indeed scary (at some parts). You have to believe the movie is true; if you start watching the movie believing this event actually happened-you'll get more out of it.
Rating: Summary: This movie was initially average until the very end. Review: So yes 3 young students go to discover the mystery of the Blair Witch and get lost and tormented in the woods. But to me it never got very intense enough to be on edge until the last five minutes and the it's over. long story short it should have started in the middle and gave a little more at the end.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Review: If you are expecting to jump out of your seat while watching this movie, don't. I sat there in disbelief and shock watching the climax. It was made to seem like it really took place and that's what was so disturbing about the film. Anyone who says that they wouldn't be scared to death if the same stuff happened to them is lying through their teeth. I never want to go near a forest again.
Rating: Summary: Entertainment value is outstanding!! DVD extras are AWESOME Review: Everybody's coming up after the fact now and being all critical of this film. Remember, $22,000. It's s'posed to have a few flaws at that price. But for being entertaining, it's great. The acting is great because they're just a bunch of dudes you'd see hanging out talking smack, etc. The DVD extras, especially the director's commentary is really awesome. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: What you DON'T see stays with you... Review: My sister and I watched this in her darkened living room... and it has stayed with me since. A review here, talking about whether or not it's a "hoax" um.... it's already been said it's FICTION. But well thought out and original fiction.... There is NOTHING like it out there right now. Forget all the slasher and haunted house flicks out there... this one will scare you for what you DON'T see, what your mind constructs around the facts and location given to you. ...and who said for sure it was an ear in that bundle of sticks? I thought I saw some teeth in there... thought there was some hair... my sister thinks it was a blob of intestines because of the Coffin Rock background. But that's my point... let your mind wander with the little bit that was shown and you WILL freak out. I don't buy into hype around movies, but this isn't hype... it's genius film making.
Rating: Summary: more motion sick than scared Review: Before watching this movie I had read that people were becoming ill from the jerky camera work. Even so, about 20 minutes into the film, I was surprised to realise I fell phyiscally bad, like after reading too long in the back seat of a car. The movie itself was scary, not so much because of the witch but because of the thought of being completely and forever lost in the woods. However, I felt so sick that I could not focus properly on the movie, and thus doubtless missed the full effect. After it was over I felt like I had been through and ordeal and not because I was so afraid. To sum up...those prone to motion sickness should watch at their own risk
Rating: Summary: An excellent film Review: One of the best films created in a long time, and proves that intelligent storytelling and acting can beat the big budget flicks any day. If youre expecting buckets of blood and gore, and cute young models/actresses, this isn't your movie. Instead, this film harks back to the original Halloween, another low budget film, but packed with excellent camerawork and suspense. The Blair Witch Project is for true horror and suspense fanatics who are tired of the same old approach. This is a true classic.
Rating: Summary: AND THE STUPID SHALL DIE IN MARYLAND Review: First things first, for film students they did a terrible job operating that camera. I don't own a camera, haven't filmed more than a few minutes using someone else's and I can hold a camcorder steadier than that girl!!! The look of the film was enough to show that it was amateur, the over exaggeration of film "control" was a pointless additive. Now we come to point 2, they were COMPLETELY UNPREPARED!!!! I am an avid outdoorsman, and, ya know, the last thing on my prep list when I go into the back country is how to read a compass or better yet - the map!!! And what a menu! Days in the wilderness - can't forget the marshmallows!! The only one that exhibited any forethought is the guy who threw the map in the river, he knew it was only weighing them down!!! (But, I guess they could have used it to sop up that girls tears later in the film) Well, I guess I am being a little harsh because I wanted to blow chunks before they even headed into the woods. The idea was good, but steadier camera shots would have allowed those of us a little weaker in the equilibrium department to get our stomachs under control. It also would have allowed me to care more about the characters - instead I felt I was in a worse predicament then they were! Anyway, back to the point, the ending and beginning were the strongest parts, the middle dragged because the dialogue was repetitive. Although when . . Josh?. . disappeared and they heard him in the distance - obviously feeling the effects of the female camera work - that was disturbing and rather tense, that is until they decided to do the brilliant thing and go running through the night after a "witch" who was obviously in better control of the situation then they were, but that's a whole other review altogether. O.k., I've rambled on enough, but let me say that it was an original idea and was good on content, but the filming could have been a little better thought out and either the movie should have been shorter or the dialogue a little better (the around the first fire scene was pretty good - more of that would have been great). Ok, that's enough from me - "A" for effort, I look forward to seeing some later works by our gallant group of Knights (Go UCF!).
Rating: Summary: An excellent horror film Review: I thought the Blair Witch Project was a very decent movie. The first time I watched it, I got sick. When I watched BWP for the first time, I felt like I was there with them, like I was going through what they went through, and I was "scared off" by the things that were terrorizing them. My boyfriend, on the other hand, thought it was a supreme movie, but there's no way in the world that it was real. I thought they did a pretty good job of convincing me that it was. I enjoyed the movie very, very much. I place it second next to my all-time favorite "Evil Dead".
