Summary: Better as a Website
Review: "Blair Witch" is 1999's most overrated movie. At first the novelty of seeing three teens film their own documentary is interesting. These are not three Hollywood colts but ordinary surburban kids on a mission--all having "bad hair" days and speaking in slang and profanity. Moreover, the filmmaking techniques they use are amateurish, as you would expect. OK so far. But then it dawns on you: who is the supposed editor of this documentary? It can't be answered; because the movie flows nicely from one scene to the next, you know it's the "real" director--which undermines the movie's whole concept. You can't suspend disbelief; there's no credibility. In fairness, I don't think any filmmaker could have pulled this off. And I will say that as the teens slowly realize their "goose is cooked" the bickering and fighting (and the eventual support of each another) is handled realistically. (The "blaming" game is especially well done.) But the witchcraft thing is unbelievable. Furthermore, the documentary conceit naturally means there's no conclusion. I really think "Blair Witch" is a calculated exercise in hype--in that sense, it may be a masterpiece. But as a movie, forget it.

Summary: Ground-breaking, intense, shocking, terrifying.
Review: It was just another run-of-the-mill Sunday in downtown Detroit. I had nothing better to do so i sat down on my couch and slammed the Blair Witch Project on my DVD player. Little did i know about the shock that was to come. Ok, the start was a little 'boring', in fact, i began to fall asleep, but then came the part when things went 'bump in the night'. It was amazing how all of a sudden a once tired fully-grown man could be reduced to cold sweats and tears due to the painful screams of terror as 'children' rattled their tent and funny noises echoed throughout the pitch black forest. Words cannot describe the fear you feel in thid film. If it were not for the 16mm footage, this film would have flopped. Thank God for the miracles of yester-year's filming achievements!

Summary: Open your eyes..? ...... OPEN YOUR MIND!!!!
Review: What is it with these people looking for reasons and conclusions? You are missing the point! The whole idea of this film is that these three students were actually THERE! That is why there was no close up explanation of "who" and "why" etc. Its all from their point of view, so its hardly surprising that a narrator didnt pop out and say "Oh by the way, that thing outside is.....". Thats what makes this film so scary. I have never been a lover of the horror genre in general. Infact I was almost bullied into seeing it. Tonight was the opening night (Im in the UK by the way) and i reluctantly agreed to see it to keep my pals off my back. Am I glad I saw it? You better believe it!!! I have never been so genuinely moved, even disturbed, by a movie. It had me BELIEVING. Forget the fact that no-one told me what was going on, because thats what makes it believable. THEY didnt know - I didnt know. THEY were scared - I was scared. Thats what fear is - the unknown. In short - SUPERB! P.S. If you LISTEN to the film you will know why Mike is standing in the corner of the room. And for you narrative lovers it may even go some way to explaining WHO was responsible.

Summary: Good but not great
Review: This movie and the way it was advertised was true genius by the film makers. I know many people who actually believed it is real footage. I wish I had seen the film when I belived that it was real, it would have been ten times more scary and I doubt I would have gone outside by myself at night for awhile. I belived it was real because of the documentary shown on the "Blair Witch" on cable. When I finally saw the film, it still scared me somewhat. One of the things that scared me the most is how Mike was facing the wall like the children had been made to do. I could have definitely done without Heather though. I almost felt like cheering when she is killed because I wouldn't have to hear her stupid voice anymore. I know many people think this film is all hype, but remember this film is a small budget, independent film that was suppose to be seen by a small amount of people. So yeah people did make too big of a deal out of it, but it is truly amazing how well it did.

Summary: Not scary, but not the point
Review: How many times do I have to read "this movie wasn't scary"? No, it wasn't. That's not the point. This isn't a Friday the 13th slasher flick, so get over it. And for those that didn't get the ending--(DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE YET)--think back to the story told in the beginning about the children that were killed by the guy in the woods that lured two at a time and had one stand in the corner while he killed the other. I know we're used to having everything spoon-fed to us nowadays, but this is an easy one.

If you enjoy the things missing in today's cinema--storytelling, plot, and leaving something for your imagination--you'll enjoy this film.

Summary: Creepy, disturbing, endlessly inventive
Review: This really is a triumph of intelligent, imaginative film-making. In an era where 'horror' instantly brings self-referential irony and pathetic in-jokes, it's so refreshing to see a film that refuses to succumb to this. Instead, our minds are constantly attacked, both by the claustrophobic camera work and the constant, building terror. What disturbed me equally, however, was the reaction of the students, played with conviction by the young leads. I genuinely felt for them, and that made the haunting final image even more resonant. Those who didn't get the significance of that image should have listenened a little better earlier on in the film! In conclusion, a masterpiece.

Summary: In the woods, no one can hear you scream obscenities
Review: Perhaps nausea-inducing, as the cameras won't stop jerking around for a moment, but hardly frightening, unless you consider being trapped with these three stupid, unattractive, and inarticulate people for an hour and a half to be the ultimate horror. Their arguments can be upsetting at times, but, really, who cares? Besides, the film has been overmarketed and overhyped. It's almost impossible to appreciate it as a film at this point. Next.

Summary: Boring......oh so boring

Summary: You have got to be kidding!!!
Review: I don't know what was worse: the severe motion sickness I got while watching this film or the constant use of the word f**k throughout the movie. That word must have been used at least 500 times. And as for the 3 so-called "filmakers", I wouldn't trust them to even take a trip out to their backyard let alone the vast wilderness. Needless to say I was very disappointed by this movie. I look back now and think, "what was all of the hype about?!!)
