Summary: Excellent DVD with lots of great "extras"
Review: The film is, of course, a classic. This DVD presentation is really fine in quality, and has very cool extras: interviews, behind the scenes peeks, and excellent commentary by the director. Definitely will not disappoint.

Summary: Scarier than Scream!
Review: For those who think today's "cookie-cutter" horror films are scary, you gotta see this movie. It may be old, but it makes "Scream" look like a comedy, Freddy look like Dr. Ruth, and Michael Myers look like Mother Theresa. It's definately a must see (but don't let the kids watch).

Summary: Makes one consider whether or not it could happen!
Review: I have seen this movie numerous times. Each time, I have problems sleeping afterwards. This is an excellent horror movie in every sense of the word. The 25th Anniversary Edition was especially excellent due to the fact that there was a documentary on the making of the film. This documentary was, in my opinion, about as scary as the movie itself.

Excellent movie.. One to watch for a good scare every now and again!

Summary: Buy this DVD
Review: I there is a DVD to buy... its this one. The remastering is perfect, the menu and all the crap on it is a full days worth of entertainment. There is so much information, that one can see how much blood sweat and tears went into every aspect of this film from start to finish. The adaptation from the book is great too. I recommend reading the book too... This is truly the scariest movie/book ever made. This movie is not recommended for someone who is deeply Christain. You'll have nightmares for like 2 weeks.=)

Summary: Scariest Movie Ever Made
Review: This movie is so scary that when I watch it during the day I still get scared. This movie is forbidden in my household.

Summary: Great sound, great movie, with interesting interviews.
Review: I've seen this movie probably 10 times, so naturally I really enjoy it, even though it scares the hell out of me (or into me!). Each time I watch, I seem to catch something "new" that I didn't recognize previously.

After I viewed this version, I actually had more questions than answers. For example: is the scene where Damien sees his mother at the "retirement home" a dream sequence? Most of the dream sequences are very dark, surreal, and in slow motion, where this one (if it is indeed only a dream) is seemingly real and real-time. However, in a later scene at the party, one of the attendees stated, "Did you hear about Father Damien's mother? It's very sad; his mother just died a couple of days ago. She lived alone." If she lived alone then she couldn't have died in the hospital. So, was this a mistake in continuity, was the party-goer simply misinformed, or was Damien feeling guily again because he couldn't save his own mother from hell?

It's really too bad that the spider scene was removed. This was the first time that I saw it, and it would have been REALLY scary to see it in the movie. I guess that it was removed because of the double-climax in the scene (as the director states in the interview) but couldn't it still have been "inserted" somewhere in the film for its powerful effect?

This film continues to be thought-provoking and entertaining 25 years later. (And hearing Linda Blair in Dolby Digital 5.1 isn't too bad, either!)

Summary: Without a doubt, the SCARIEST movie ever!!!
Review: Being a horror freak, I have seen a lot of horror movies. This is the only movie I will not see alone or in the dark. The first time I saw this movie, I could not sleep for days. Linda Blair did an outstanding performance, she scared the hell out of me. This is an absolute must for anyone who seriously wants to be scared, just don't watch it alone!

Summary: Historically Significant and Utterly Terrifying
Review: This movie is superlative for all the normal technical reasons: cimematography, soundtrack, effects, screenplay, acting. And the pacing of the film is plain genius. But there is something more going on here than the sum of all these parts. The best horror films effect us by being closer to what we believe to be true as opposed to being off-the-scale over-the-top. While demonic possession, telekinesis, etc., may be too outlandish for us to accept as real possibility, it is close enough to our myths and religeons to make us very uneasy. The closer a film comes to our own beliefs or experiences, the stronger its ability to move us emotionally.

On a purely visceral level, the pacing of the movie is pure genius -- adequate respites from insanity interspersed among the gradual unrelenting build-up of tension. Just when the adrenaline has calmed down, the terror starts to rebuild as someone heads up the stairs.

Summary: The Exorcist - the only movie that I actually found scary
Review: The Exorcist is one of those movies that never gets old. Even after 26 years and innumerable other gore-fests, The Exorcist is still scaring the hell out of people. So what makes it so scary? Well, like many good movies, it leaves a lot to the viewer- it's not chock full of special effects or spooky music. In fact, the effects and music are non-existant by today's standards. But if you look on it as something that actually happened (it was originally based on a true(?) story) and let your imagination take control, it is one scary movie. Newer films (Blair Witch included, of course) don't hold a candle to a classic like this. +-SrCosmo

Summary: Lets talk about mixed up...
Review: I spent the last few years hearing nightmare-inducing horror stories about this film.I have never enjoyed horror movies but lately my mind has become severely twisted and I have come to enjoy horrors.About a week ago I decided to see what all the fuss was about concerning "The Exorcist".So, one night after work, I rented the tape, took it home and while sitting by myself in a dark, lonely house,I watched it. Well...my reactions can only be described as twisted.I actually found myself laughing at some of the scenes!Somehow, this movie tickled my funny bone quite seriously! Don't get me wrong, the movie is absolutely brilliant.A true masterpiece of horror.A veritable treasure trove of special effects wizardry.Truly the best horror movie to date. In the last few months,I have seen more horror movies than I care to remember and one thing I have found is that the more recent horrors are more blood and gore than real fear and terror. The Exorcist will always remain in the horror hall of fame.It had and still does have the ability to invoke true,dyed-in-the-wool fear.Unlike modern day horrors that seem to rely on blood, guts and gore to "scare" people. Even if you are not a fan of horror,I still recommend that you get together with a few friends and watch this masterpiece. The movie seems to take a little while to get going but once it starts,it doesn't stop until everybody in the house is white as a sheet. Linda Blair's portrayal of Regan is superb. She makes you believe that she is genuinely possessed!Ellen Burstyn plays her part as Regans mother brilliantly.I could be prepared to believe that she has been in a situation like that before.Max von Sydow and Jason Miller inject chilling realism into the exorcism scene. The first 10 minutes of the movie had me a little confused until right at the end and even then, I still wasn't able to put the first scene together with the rest of the movie very well. It is easy to see why this movie was surrounded by so much controversy. It was way ahead of it's time and certainly set the ball rolling for other bone-chilling horror movies. Definately my number one horror of all time.
