Summary: A Truly Convincing Horror Classic
Review: That the makers of this film managed to base the storyline upon religion, the most ancient and explored theme of civilisation, and produce this chillingly compulsive masterpiece with such an original feel and atmosphere is an achievement unto itself. That it also manages to entertain at least in equal amount to the classic book from which the movie is derived is more remarkable still. The scares in this movie do not come simply from the sudden shocks from shadowy figures jumping out from the shadows, blood stained machete in hand....although there are some of those! The subtle realism and ,in places, documentary syle feel of the film join with the subject matter to prey on the fears of the human psyche, which can be so sensitive and so thoroughly spooked by the evil side of the supernatural. You may well find yourself at the end of the film feeling that, good though the film is, it wasn't quite as petrifying as the hype has often suggested. But, if you have any imagaination in you at all, you will discover, late at night as you are getting into bed and have turned out the lights, how quickly your mind turns back to the movie, thinking it over, replaying scenes and questioning your own supernatural beliefs, and bringing your deepest fears vividly to life ..... You may find yourself haunted, not necessarily by the film itself, but by the thoughts that it provokes, for weeks, months or even years.

Summary: An absolute classic
Review: I saw this for the first time as a young schoolboy and it made a powerful impact on me. The content was extremely shocking at that time and the Catholic Church had their say about this film. It really is a deeply religious movie with the overlaying theme of good versus evil. Especially mesmerizing is the scenes with the possessed Regan and Karras and their conversations. The terror slowly builds through out the film and comes to a shattering end after the exorcism. Actually the book is much different than the movie. The exorcism takes place over weeks in the book and we get into much more character development, especially with the detective Kinderman and other mysterious murders and ongoing crimes. But the one night exorcism was dramatic and was needed for the 2 hour movie length. This is one of the greatest thriller/horror movies made and I'd strongly suggest reading the book for additional flavor.

Summary: Gripping and scary!
Review: The Exorcist is one of the most shocking films to date.Clearly we can see the horror that director William Friedkin unleashes as he tells us what happens when a 12 year old girl(Linda Blair)becomes by the devil.Ellen Burstyn and Linda Blair were both nominated for academy awards as well as Jason Miller.The film offers the viewer a choice to accept what we see in horror films and it is clear that this film is just as shocking as the novel by William Peter Blatty.William Peter Blatty won an oscar for Adapted Screenplay.The Exorcist is clearly in my book the most shocking.

Summary: Kinda Freaky
Review: I just watched this dvd for the first time. In the beginning, it was a little slow paced but then it picked up. Did anyone else think the first ten minutes was pointless? Anywayz, it was a movie that made me jump at times and think at times. Well I would buy it if I were you.

Summary: Boring at Beginning,but great from middle on
Review: When I first saw this movie, it was a little boring at the beginning maybe because I didn't understand.From the middle of the movie on, WOW! That movie just made the hair on my arm just stand up in mid air. Speaking of mid air, the scene in which Regan's bed is in mid air is just so creepy and the technology was so ahead of it's time that no words can describe it except CREEPY!

Review: Nipsey loved it back in the early 70's when he took Jo ann Worley to see this flick. And Nipsey still loves it to this day. You love horror then you already have this flick! LINDA BLAIR IS A PLUS IN ROLLER BOOGIE TOO. Wish they would start printing up more roller boogie tapes!

Summary: Landmark horror film
Review: This is a landmark horror film that in 1973 pushed the genre to a new standard by displaying a much greater degree of intensity, explicitness, and vileness than what had previously been attempted in a horror film. Many of the film's shocks still hold up well today, thanks to Linda Blair's unnerving performance of 12-year-old girl who overnight turns into a grotesque, obscene, inhuman monster. A mild complaint: the film makes it clear that she is possessed by the Devil, although the original novel doesn't commit to that theory; keeping it ambiguous would have achieved greater suspense and mystery. DVD buyers beware; the DVD version only has Dolby Digital 5.1 audio on one side of the disc (the pan & scan side), not the other side. I would recommend buying the "25th Anniversary Edition" DVD of the film, or the more expensive "Limited Collector's Edition" DVD that has supplementary material.

Summary: Scary 25 years latter
Review: The scene: a fifteen year old boy walks into his local retail store and sees The Exorcist. He has some money and figures, why not? I like horror movies. He takes it home that night and watches every minutes of it, his eyes glued to the screen, his gut turning with fear. This is one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. I'm older now, but it still scares me sensless. The plot is amazing and the acting is just as amazing. William Friedkin did a really good job, better then he did with French Connection (that's still a good movie, but this ones better). I thought that this would be just some cheesy 70s horror movie that everyone thought was good back in the day, but I was surprised and terrified when the ending credits came up. If this movie has the power to scare a fifteen year old, cynical teenager 25 years later I only shudder to think what it did in its original theatrical release. Really, really scary and good!

Review: I thought that this movie was pretty good. It was the scariest and coolest horror movie that i've ever seen. I was pretty young, like 10, so i was squeezing a pillow the whole time. This movie got me interested in horror movies.
