Review: This is the best film ever produced. Ellen Burstyn was robbed by the Academy for her role. Although Linda Blair won a "Golden Globe" for her performance, this film was never given the credit due it, by the Academy.

Summary: Spider Woman
Review: Now, without a doubt, The Exorcist is one of the greatest horror films ever made. This film showed that horror films could actually be "good" oscar-worthy, and epic. I love schlock and B films, but Exorcist gave horror a good(or bad depending on the person you ask)name. I find this to be one of the finest the genre has to offer, but I'm not so sure about the new version. I think I'm in the same category of hardcore Star Wars fans who didn't care much for the special editions. If you ask me, it's pretty ballsy to mess with a classic, coz you really run the risk of upsetting alot of people. I didn't think it was too bad really. In fact, most of it I could deal with okay, but there was one thing I just couldn't: The dreaded "Spider walk." I think that really ruined it. Not only was it totally out of place at that point in the movie, but it looked so corny. Having Reagan come out of her room and attack was premature. Why didn't she do it again, or any ol' time she pleased? Why did she do it the first time? How did they get her back to her room? Did she voluntarily go back to her room? Since we're dealing with an old film that we can't reshoot, there is no footage in the original film to explain that scene. Why was it never talked about again? Don't you think Ellen Burstyn would have brought up this rather bizarre episode to the doctors or the priest? Well, like I said, I could deal with the extra dialogue, spooky phantom flashes and the hint of CGI, but that spider walk has just got to go.

Summary: "The Power of Christ Compels You!"
Review: There are no words that can accurately describe the terror that "The Exorcist" emits. Before viewing this film, I did not believe a movie could possibly be so horrifying. However, after watching it for the first time, I thought differently. Most everyone already knows the story: a twelve year old girl named Raegan is somehow posessed by an evil demon who claims to be the devil. This demon causes the little girl to do terrible, murderous, revolting things so horrifying that the audience will most likely be disturbed for weeks. This film doesn't rely on suspense, shadows, or split second shocks to terrify the audience (although those things are definately present). The whole film is a bizarre roller coaster ride of extreme good vs. extreme evil, with an innocent twelve year old's life caught in the middle. It is the horror that Raegan endures, as well as the struggle that the priest who attempts to exercise her goes through, that generate most of the films fear. If you're looking for a good, solid scare, you should buy this immediately. However, be warned: it will seriously mess you up for weeks. I mean that as a good thing.

Summary: THE EXORCIST: THE VERSION YOU'VE NEVER SEEN
Review: Okay. Everyone already knows the plot, the outcome, and the history surrounding this movie. I was fortunate to see it in the theater when it was re-released with all of the extended scenes, the spider walk, etc. I even bought it when it was released on DVD. From what I have seen from watching certain parts of the DVD, it is well worth the money. Especially the new sound re-mix. It's awesome on a surround sound system. However, I still can't sit and watch it by myself! After all of these years, it is still one of the scariest movies ever put on celluloid! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IF YOU WANT TO SLEEP WITH THE LIGHTS ON!

Summary: The Exorcist Is Still Possessing
Review: The Exorcist is flat out one of the scariest movies ever made. The story of a twelve year old girl who is possessed by a demon still sends chills of horror down your spine even after repeated viewings. Director William Friedkin perfectly combines all aspects of horror from the psychological to the gross-out that doesn't just evoke screams or makes you jump out of your seat. The real terror comes from watching a mother see her daughter being taken over by an evil spirit and not being able to anything to protect her. Ellen Burstyn is marvelous in the role of Chris McNeil and Linda Blair gives the performance of her life as Regan McNeil, the possessed girl. Ms. Burstyn relates both compassion and fear as she wants to help her daughter but is being broken down by the constant abuse that the demon heaps on her. Both Jason Miller and Max Von Sydow are excellent as the priests brought in the perform the exorcism. Mr. Von Sydow's Father Merrin is the elder priest who refuses to be shaken by the demon, but Mr. Miller's younger Father Karras is having doubts in his faith and seeing young Regan only serves to riddle him with more angst. The film was a major triumph, becoming at the time the all time highest grossest movie in history. The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards including Best Picture, Mr. Friedkin for Best Director, Ms. Burstyn for Best Actress, Ms. Blair for Best Supporting Actress and Mr. Miller for Best Supporting Actor, but only took home two awards, one for Best Sound and the other by William Peter Blatty for Best Writing, Screenplay based on another medium which he adapted from his own novel.

Review: This is easily the scariest movie ever made, but you actually have to have an attention span, to fully enjoy this film. You also must take it seriously, and not cracks jokes about it. You also need to watch it alone in the dark for the ultimate experience. I can't tell you anything that hasn't already been said. All I have to say is BUY this movie, It is without a question, THE SCARIET MOVIE EVER MADE!!! Scarier than The Omen, Rosemary's Baby, The Ring, The Shining, Silence of the Lambs, and The Evil Dead! Truely the SCARIEST movie ever made!!! See it tonight.

Summary: There are better horror films
Review: I've been a long-time fan of Omen, and Shining is one of my favorite films. So when several of my coworkers looked at me in surprise, when I told them that I had never seen The Exorcist, and when they kept insisting that it was the scariest and among the best horror movies they had seen, I knew I had to see it. I don't know if it's the overhyping of the film that was a downer, or whether I was expecting too much, but the film didn't really impress me.
The Exorcist didn't impress me as a scary movie not because it's old and the effects are obviously dated, but because it just didn't create a "scary enough" atmosphere. By this I don't mean multiple heads or hideous creatures - many movies, like Shining manage to bury under one's skin without so much as special makeup. The environment of the film just wasn't all that scary - between the girl throwing up green goo and the movement of the bed, there really wasn't anything implied. Fear created by this film was mostly in its attempt to rely on special effects, more than necessary, in my opinion. And while this may work for some films, it doesn't work in this one.
Also, given that this was not a B-movie (I also have a great interest in those), I expected a bit more of a background on what was going on. The Omen did a great job at describing the background of the devil, I feel that this is where the Exorcist falls short.
Overall, it's not a bad movie. But I simply can't compare The Exorcist to either Shining or Omen - it just wasn't as good as either of the two.

Summary: Still the best nearly 30 years later
Review: This film has gained a lot of notoriety through out the years.It has been ridiculed in spoof horror films such as 'Repossessed' but there is one inescapable fact...it is a truly disturbing and has a realistic feel to it that is missing from other films of the same genre.You probably all know the story from here on in so I won't bore you with the details.
The one thing that makes this film truly scary is the STYLE of the film.When you are watching the scenes in the US, you feel like you are watching a documentary and not a feature film.
The acting of the main characters especially Linda Blair as the little girl, Ellen Burstyn as her mother and Jason Miller as the priest are exceptional.When you look in Jason Miller's eyes you can sense the fear that he has of the evil he sees in front of him and his doubt in God which is caused by the sudden death of his mother.
The film slowly evolves from a quasi-documentary into a total nightmare.It is like a bad dream.You want it to end but are totally spellbound by the malevolent spirit which awakens in the little girl.The sound effects are amazing and the imagery is shocking in places eg. when the young girl masturbates with the crucifix.
Overall the film packs a large punch because it is about the fear of the unknown that is in all of us.
The demon knows more than we do and can cause us to doubt our faith and can even read our minds and that is what makes it truly scary.
The degeneration of a beautiful little girl into a demonic beast is really well done.That is down to skill of the director William Friedkin and his crew.
Finally the screenplay is also excellent and this is because it is done by the author of the book William Peter Blatty so it has not been compromised.
All in all this is one 'hell' of a film (sorry about the corny joke !)

Review: this movie is not one of the scariest. IT IS THE SCARIEST i bought it on dvd and watched it three times already. linda blair is a great actress but her best one i think is sweet hostage. i guess after making one like the exorcist they decided for her to make a teer jerker.
