Summary: Like a fine wine J.C. The Thing got better with age!!!
Review: It's funny to think that when this movie first came out in 1982 that it was bashed and beat down by critics as well as not doing good box-office revenue. However as time moves on and more and more people watch this film it's plan to see (just look at all the positive reviews just here alone) that it is a classic of the sci-fi/horror genre which I am a MAJOR fan of. You want some genuine thrills The Thing has it. You want a mystery The Thing has it. Last and not least all you monster fans (which I am first and foremost) want one cool monster The Thing has that in spades as well. In an era where we have completely lost REAL horror and REAL monster movies to horror spoofs("Scream" if you true horror monster fans hear me) this is one of those movies I always never tire of revisiting. this movie is a 5 star classic for those who love horror monster movies or just horror in general. So if you have not seen this movie get off the computer and rent this John Carpenter classic, you'll thank me for it!!!

P.S. Hollywood bring back my monster movies !!!!

Summary: Great one
Review: Being a horror movie buff, this review will have many good things to say about The Thing. The plot is good, the acting is good, and the special effects are seamless (except for when the tentacle grabs the detonator at the end). The cast includes Kurt Russell, whose career was taking off at the time, veteran actor A. Wilford Brimley, and Keith David. Being not even born when the movie came out, and only exposed to the ultra-edited versions of The Thing on TV, I never really had the chance to appreciate it until I rented it a few years back. So, as the readers may have already assumed, those who want to see the film should rent it or buy it, if you are so inclined. Even nearly 20 years after its theatrical release, there are plenty of surprises and gory but very cool effects. My favorite is the "defibrillator scene."

Don't watch this movie if you are scared easily or like endings where the hero wins it all and everything is tied up in a neat little package.

Summary: "The Thing": A masterpiece Sci-Fi flick.
Review: ...The old black & white version of this film (starring James Arness as the creature...remember the marshall in "Gunsmoke"? I understand they chose Mr. Arness because he was one of the few actors tall and large enough to play the creature.) is a must-see, but it does not hold true to the original storyline as John Carpenter's version does. The technology did not exist back in the '50's to make an alien creature change it's shape. In this new version, the effects used when the alien changes to "become" another living organisim to survive and blend-in leaves nothing to the imagination. Carpenter's version of "The Thing" is a must-see for fans of this genre. The effects are great, the concept is great, and the acting is top-notch. My favorite scene was where Kurt Russell draws blood from everyone to test to see who's the alien hiding among the crew. Kurt Russell heats a wire with a torch and burns each sample of blood, figuring that the the blood drawn from the alien will "escape" in it's attempt to survive. The havoc that ensues is pure Sci-Fi heaven!

Summary: One of my all time favorites
Review: John Carpenter's "The Thing" is his best movie, in my opinion. The special effects really make the film, but the acting and the suspense are great, too. The film is about some scientists trapped in the Arctic. They end up thawing an alien out of some ice, but what they don't know is that it can take any living form. It infects a dog, and in a wonderfully gory scene, literally busts out of the dog's body (if you're an animal lover, don't watch that). The Thing then begins to take the form of members of the team of scientists, and this is where the suspense really builds. The people are trapped, no way out, with each other, and one of them is the Thing. At first, when I saw the end of the movie, I thought, "What the hell kind of ending was that?" But it is really cool, actually. It just goes back to the question that is asked throughout the whole movie: Who is really the Thing? The movie is very gory, so if you're not into lots of blood and violence, DO NOT GET THIS MOVIE. If you can stomach the intensity of it all, than be my guest, because the movie rocks.

Summary: Pick of the litter
Review: One of the best all time 'monster movies' ever made. I still remember when this was at the theatre in the early 80's. E.T. had sold out completely so my friend and I reluctantly bought tickets to 'The Thing' and were blown away!

The DVD edition is exceptionally sharp with decent sound. I've watched it both in the regular version and with the 'soundtrack' version of Carpenter & Kurt Russell. Both are worth a try.

This remains a standard in "eecch" flicks. Many have tried but "The Thing" delivers both shock and suspense.

One of the favorites of my entire collection....

Summary: Some scary entertainment?
Review: Watch this!!!!!! Special effects are SO REAL,it might be possible you won`t be able to sleep for a couple of days. The dog transformation is a kind of "appetizer" will make you cover your eyes with your hands and let you guess what you`ll get afterwards.Have fun!!!!!!!

Summary: Suspense and horror a timeless classic
Review: A reasearch team in Antartica discovers an alien that has been frozen in the ice for over 100,000 years. The team discovers that the alien is capable of shape shifting. But when they realize the alien could be any of them the research station is turned upside down. Paranoia sets in and nobody is above suspicion and the only person you can trust is yourself.

This is a sci-fi horror classic. They dont make them like this anymore, it seems that gory gross-out effects have become a thing of the past. Apart from what feels like an incomplete ending the film is just about perfect. It has it all and will keep your attention as the tension escalates to the very end. The dvd is loaded. It has outtakes, trailer, photos and a great commentary to name a few. This collector's edition is well worth the price.

Summary: Still a Horror Classic 20 years later
Review: When I was a horror-crazed teen, and thought that I was untouchable by horror flicks back in 1981, I encountered John Carpenter's "The Thing", and had nightmares for a week.

Twenty years later, and me in my thirties, I popped the DVD into my player, turned off the lights, turned up the Home Theater, and remembered what it was like to be scared all over again.

This is by far one of John Carpenter's best pieces, and it was also the first film where Rob Bottin (special makeup effects supervisor for 'Fight Club') was allowed to show off his "Monster-Effects" talent. The result was this masterpiece that managed to firmly establish a name for itself even with the constant advances in special effects technology we see today.

This was one of the last films to have a production budget that allowed for the time that the director needed to get his vision on the big screen, and it should be seen and appreciated by anyone who calls themselves a horror afficinado.

Summary: A film that has outlasted it's rivals
Review: This film has made 10 times more grossage on video and DVD than when it was originally released, but like Blade Runner it has risen from the ashes of Box Office failure to cult status and then to worldwide popularity and success

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: THE THING IS BARE-BONES HORROR AT ITS BEST!!!!!
Review: If you have a craving for raw horror and suspense, then this movie will satisfy your appetite! Everything from gory special effects to bone-chilling suspense to creepy, spine-tingling background music combines to make John Carpenter's The Thing a horror classic! For me, the creepiest scene was where the dog's head splits into four pieces, allowing the "thing" hiding inside it to finally emerge! Excellent!!!
