Summary: A Masterpiece of Terror
Review: I saw this film once about 4-5 years ago and never forgot it. I have never been genuinely 'scared' by a horror film before - most are just laughable - but this one was different. It succeeds in its restraint, through building up an atmosphere of terror and via the supurb performance of the 'Woman in Black' - and what an ending!

This the only film of its genre that is truely worthy of being a part of my personal video collection.

Summary: Extremely disturbing viewing!
Review: I can only echo the comments of other viewers but I must say I am saddened that this masterpiece is not available for sale on PAL-VHS in its country of origin, nor on DVD. It is a film which out-shines the Shining and out-haunts the Haunting (1963 version) and it's probably fair to say that for sheer atmosphere it could only be topped by a night alone in a real haunted house.

Don't watch it by day.

Don't watch it with someone there to hold your hand.

Just choose a dark and stormy night, light a couple of candles, sit down ALONE and let yourself be transported into the most chilling experience of your life.

Summary: Horribly Scary
Review: This is an extremely well made film which is probably the most disturbing and frightening thing I have ever seen. My hat goes off to Pauline Moran who plays her part superbly - full of phantoming menace!, (her fourth appearance as the ghost just has to be seen to be believed) and the cast in general who are all great and very effective.

I advise like most other people you watch this on a bright sunny say in the company of close friends and family, preferably with a loyal dog by your side and a pillow to hide behind. DO NOT watch it alone.

Summary: HORROR AT ITS BEST
Review: KEEPS YOU ON THE EDGE OF YOUR SEAT.IT DOES NOT HAVE ALOT GORE AND SPECIAL EFFECTS IN IT , LIKE MOST HORROR MOVIES TODAY. JUST A GOOD STORY WITH SUPERB ACTING

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: BEST ADULT HORROR FILM EVER MADE!!!
Review: I'm a hard-to-please expert on horror films. This is my number one favorite. No blood. No gore. Just a superb cast and a mysterious old house, which draw you in and make you feel almost safe. But the suspense is there at all times, and sometimes so is the ghostly Woman in Black. Viewers familiar with David Suchet's "Poirot" stories MUST see this film. The delightful actress, Pauline Moran, who plays Poirot's secretary Miss Lemon is unforgettable as the Woman in Black. The atmosphere is amazing! This movie is a "must" for intelligent viewers. Anyone who reveals the ending should have to introduce his family to the Woman in Black!

Summary: Overall, one of the best ghost stories on film.....ever.
Review: This movie (video) is classy and scarey. There are a few corny moments but over all it is a very well done - medium budget - british horror film. But use the term 'horror' lightly... there's no 'pumkin head' running around stabbing obnoxious teens in this one...its scarier than that. Although the ending was a little strange, its worth the watch, especially late at night...with not too many people around....

Summary: a horror that will make you wince
Review: This is the best horror movie of this genre I have ever seen. You are drawn comfortably into a scene only then to be dropped into terror. This clever technique is what sets this movie apart from the rest.I have spoken to many other people who said that they didn't sleep well after seeing this movie. And we would all watch it again.

Summary: Atmosphere, all is atmosphere and performance.
Review: I actually was the 1st Assistant Director on this film. I suppose that I then have an interest in saying that it is quite an extraordinary work of "atmospheric cinema" not unlike Clouzots "Les Diaboliques" That aside, there were moments on the set when filming that "chilled the blood". Not an easy thing to do in front of a body of experienced technicians. These days when so many films rely heavily on digital special effects often to the detriment the actors, "The Woman in Black" takes a different route. We are constantly enthralled by the situations and cirumstances in which we find our protagonists and, there hangs a cloud of doubt and unknowing over the entire film which the Director, Herbert Wise, manipulates with great aplomb. For the best effect, watch on a cold winter night with the curtains drawn and,the lights out and, let the story unfold.

Summary: Scariest movie ever made.
Review: I haven't even seen this movie for a couple years - I was telling a friend about it, and started getting chills and looking over my shoulder. There is no movie scarier that this one. The final scene with the boat has got to be one of the best filmed, morbid, freaky, scary, and every other word ending with y scenes of all time. I watched this movie from underneath a blanket with a pillow over my head. It's best to watch this movie in the summer with the sun out sometime just after breakfast so you have time to get over it before the night comes.
