Summary: A Dated Gorefest
Review: I once viewed DAWN OF THE DEAD as something of a masterpiece when I first viewed it in the mid-80s. Having viewed this film again recently with the release of the director's cut, I have to say that this one doesn't really stand up that well. In fact, it looks rather dated. Romero's intelligence shines through in the above-average script and characterizations, but it's all the then-trendy 70s/80s gore effects that badly date the film. Makeup effects artist Tom Savini did wonders on a low budget, but the makup fx are so gaudy and over the top that they look rather cheesy. Every time the story gets interesting, there's a slew of garish gore effects that had me groaning and chuckling to myself, with the result that the film overall is uninvolving. This was once terrifying, and is now a cheesy chuckle. See the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD for a genuine exercise in how to build fear on a low budget.

Summary: One of the best zombie movies made
Review: It is unlike any other horror film I have seen, because it has action scenes in it. It may seem like the point of the film is watching people run away from zombies, well it is not. There are other points to movie such as, taking what the survivers want from the mall, battling against motorcycle gangs, and a good screne play.

Summary: The most horrifying zombie movie ever!
Review: "What an awesome movie!" I kept thinking to myself after having seen this film for the first time. Dawn of the Dead is one of the most sickening, yet brilliantly made films to date. This movie takes a basically ridiculous premise (flesh eating zombies have overrun America) and makes it both believable interesting, and terrifying. This is because the zombies are seen in a different light almost every time, and when they attack, the gore is unyeilding. The situation is interesting besides. Imagine how neat it would be to live in a deserted shopping mall (assuming you can keep the zombies out!). I was vicarious while watching this movie. I laughed, gasped in horror, sighed in relief, was even moved, and watched awestricken. Dawn of the Dead left me with a horrible gut feeling (no pun intended) at the end, but only due to the movie's effectiveness.

Summary: The dead will rise. (at least see our malls!)
Review: This is a great film and should of been a one sided disc instead of two. The mall of mayhem is a good way to discribe this one. This is without dispute the best of Mr. Romero's work. Zombies are a cool Foe and always scared me as a child.

Summary: Movie Is Great, But the DVD Isn't.
Review: Anchor Bay DVD's have quickly become my least favorite DVD maker. Unfortunately most of my favorite movies are being released under them.

The transfer is good, but either(a)this DVD was one of their first generation released DVD's or (b) they were just too lazy to fit the whole movie on one side and my biggest peeve...they didn't even have a running time programmed in.

I have since seen them get better. Day Of The Dead actually has a running time.

Summary: SIMPLY THE GREATEST HORROR MOVIE EVER MADE, HANDS DOWN!!!
Review: George Romero has put together the greatest horror movie of all time, in every aspect. Tom Savini shows us why he is the best at what he does, great, gory, and gruesome FX. George Romero has not only made the greatest horror movie EVER, he also challengers you to think about society as a whole and what we want as opposed to what we need. It is a horror movie that challenges to look at society as a whole, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, IT'S AN AWESOME, AWESOME, HORROR MOVIE. It has every thing you could want in a horror movie. See it, buy the Collectors Edition, extra footage (which never should been taken out), as well as U.S. and foreign trailers. A 100% MUST FOR HORROR FANS!!!!!!
