Summary: A Masterpiece in Every Sense of the Word!
Review: Geroge A. Romero's second feature in the 'Holy Trilogy' is without a doubt the best. 'Night' had the ability to freak you out, simply plotwise. 'Day' had the ability to make your mind spin with both the plot and the visual effects. 'Dawn' makes you freak out on the basic principal of the story -- not to mention the gore (some of the zombies look fake; but what can you do?). The DiviMax DVD release is a shameful way to get publicity. They released this simply because the first two editions (theatrical & director's cut) are out of print and the fact that the remake was being released -- so they rushed this edition. Audio commentaries are excellent, as well as the theatrical trailers and television spots. The picture is a miracle! Absolutely outstanding job on the video clean-up. The audio was pretty impressive as well. However, it lacks the special features that we'll be getting in the "multi-disc" release. Word of the "multi-disc" is that it will have both the theatrical cut and the director's cut. I also heard it WILL be loaded down with other special features -- this being said, how many discs will there be? I figure three -- one disc apiece for the films and another disc for the special features. Now with 'Dawn' getting a 2-3 disc treatment, 'Day' getting a cozy 2 disc set, how about 'Night' getting a nice little 2 disc release?

Summary: For this price, you can't lose
Review: If you are fiending for Dawn of the Dead and have seen the going price for the few remaining DVD versions out there, get this DVD now. You will bask in the relaxing aura of late 70's synthesizer soundscapes, marvel at the strangely committed performances of the well-chosen cast, and be blown away by the shocking violence of Savini's creative, kaleidoscopic kills. Oh sure, you can sit around on your hands waiting for that super-excellenty perfect edition from heaven. Or, just hook yourself up now. This edition is perfectly fine. Enjoy.

Summary: Dawn of the dread...
Review: The fans of this movie led me to believe this movie is the cat's meow but what i saw left me unhappy. The movie is very slow paced there is no real tension of the zombies because they are so slow you can out run them. And the acting is really bad is it intentional or not? The movie just dragged, later on they introduce the biker gang and it felt almost comical to see these guys attack the zombies. The zombies are not at all scary when you can slap them and throw pies in their faces the zombies are patethic monsters the gore is pretty good with a few scenes that stand out but nothing i havent seen done better elsewhere. I saw the new remake of this flick and i prefer it 100 times better over this flaming turd of a movie if slumbering dead people terrify you go ahead look at it i prefer my zombies running at me! This movie looks like it was made by film students with a decent budget. Bottom line this movie is good if your a fan of Romero's work, and if you want to see where todays zombie movie get their inspiration from. but nothing more. Critics give him to much credit for this movie, zombies as consumers, oh ok i get it...lame. Tom savini did some great gore effects but the make up effects on this were lame. I'm going to sell my copy of this movie and wait for a really good nail biter... the dawn of the dead remake. The original movie probably scared your parents, but it wont scare a jaded young audience.

Summary: Good Stuff
Review: This is without a doubt, one of the greatest horror movies of all time. However, with this classic film being placed in that genre, it should be noted that this movie is not scary. It is a terrifying concept for a film though and accomplishes everything that it sets out to.Effects and gore are awesome but dated. They were top notch when the film was released but laughable to younger viewers. Acting is good. Not great but good. A little over the top at time and a little to mellow at other times. The setting is awesome. Nearly all of the movie was shot inside of an actual shopping mall in the late 1970's. For some of us, it takes us back to the way things looked like back and then, and for the youngsters who are into the retro craze, they will get a kick out of it. The music is awesome. It's funny, it's moody, it's eerie and it can convey a sense of dread. The writing, directing and editing are all top notch but that is what one would expect in a Romero film. If you like The Omega Man or The Evil Dead series, you will love this movie. It's gory, suspenseful and its funny! Go get it.

Summary: The all time classic that shook the horror genre
Review: Whether the upcoming remake is any good or not doesn't matter; George Romero's 1979 follow up to the legendary Night of the Living Dead can still dish out the chills nearly 25 years after it's initial release. We all know the story by now: four people barricade themselves inside a shopping mall while hordes of the undead hungrily try to claw their way inside. Dawn of the Dead is nothing short of epic with great, taut performances and Tom Savini's landmark gut ripping gore effects, plus the satirical stab at consumer culture that made the film a hit with critics. The film still manages to be shocking to this day, and it has aged quite gracefully. Anchor Bay finally decided to re-release Dawn of the Dead on DVD, and it features a fantastic commentary by Romero, Savini, and crew. Other than that, the extras are a bit lacking, even though a deluxe edition is supposedly due out later this year. All in all, if you've ever called yourself a horror fan, than Dawn of the Dead deserves a place in your film library.

The latest DVD from Anchor Bay has an sharp anamorphic Widescreen (1.85:1) transfer with an digitally remastered soundtrack in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, which is terrific (also on DTS). DVD has an Commentary Track by the Writer/Director, Director's Wife, Special Make-Up Effects Artist:Tom Savini and Commentary Narrated:Perry Martin. DVD Extras are Trailer, T.V. Spots, 2 Hidden Features and More. Dawn of the Dead will be out also on a Three Disc Set, which it will have the Theatrical Cut, Extended Cut (With a Different Music Score) and Dario Argento's Shorter Cut with Never Seen Before Footage, Never Seen on the Theatrical Cut and Extended Cut. Summary: A Zombie movie masterpiece
Review: Dawn of the Dead is one of my favorite films and probably my favorite zombie film, I really wish I could classify it as a horror movie, but I don't really consider it inspite of some horror elements it has. I found it very, very entertaining, funny, well-acted and well written and with some great (if not dated) gore effects and I have to say that some complains about the movie have left me startled though. "It wasn't scary!"-It's not meant to be scary, it's an action satire more than anything else. "Bad acting"-Okay, maybe to a degree, but the acting here is far better than what I've seen in films like Gothika. "No explanation"-AHEM! This is a sequel to Night of the Living Dead, but let me say that there is no real explanation to the whole phenomenom, people just keep wondering about why it's happening. The whole ambiguity of it is what makes it so effective and remindful to a degree of Hitchcock's "The Birds" "Drags on too much"-That's more of a matter of personal taste, but I never found this movie to drag, I thought it was a lot of fun from beginning to end and it allowed to shed a bit of light into the characters "How did the zombies get into the mall?"-Do movies must spoon-fed everything to modern audiences these days? The doors were open as simple as that. That's all I have to say about this fantastic film, I'm not sure if I can recommend it to everybody, but all I can say is that I completely love it and it's the best zombie movie I have ever seen and while Night of the Living Dead is excellent as well, I think Dawn surpasses it in some aspects.

Summary: PERFECT BABY, PERFECT!
Review: This is the new 2004 Dawn Of The Daed (1978) Divix Special Edition Theactical Version. This is a cleaned DVD, polished so you can see every blue zombie, and every gut splitting second. This DVD has many special "SPECIAL" features like hidden easter egg interviews of Chris Romero (wife) and Tom Sivina (FX). If you are a collector and dont have this virson, buy it! IT SHINNY! But if you never seen the original Dawn of the Dead...DONT! Do not buy this DVD unless you want to be left out, it may be cleaned, it may have extras, but its bad! Why?....because its cut! Cut?!?! what do you mean? On the back it says is longer, yah but not in the wat you think! This dvd does not feature the docking bay scene with Josef Pilato as the police officer and also cuts cool scenes that are funny and bloody. THIS IS A THEATER VERSION!!!!! meaning some guts are not included. They cut cool scene and extanded room scenes (a.k.a. "PANIC" scenes). These are the begining scenes in which every one panics! They extend the camera scenes and show more, like the computers and peoples reactions. Ken Foree and Scott Reiniger make this move great! But I still must say, only buy this if! IF your collecting this kind of stuff or this is your only chance to see it. But there are 2 main reasons I still must say do not buy, if you never saw this Dawn of the Dead... 1.) ITS EDITED!!!!(a.k.a. cut) 2.) There will be a special edition 3 disk DVD box set for Dawn of the Dead, featuring DAWN (78), DAWN (04), and zombi. And later on there will be a DEAD BOX SET, that will have Night(68),Night(98),Dawn(78),Dawn(04),Zombi,Zombi 2,Day(85),zombi3,zombi4,zombi5, and more!!! NOW, its up to you to decide to buy it or not...or you could wait untill September/October.

Review: When There is no more room in hell,the dead'll walk the earth.That was a purely classic saying.This movie is not one bit scary,it's not for these two reasons-1.The effects are very funny,especially when the zombies tear that looters chest open.And 2.The zombies look really fake. Overall:This is a pure Classic Romero Film.

Summary: One of the worst movies of all-time
Review: Dawn of the dead is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
This movie is almost as bad as "Evil Dead" ( another badly made over-hyped horror classic)
Some movies do not deserve the label of classic and this one sure doesn't.
The movie is not scary and loaded with kindergarden special effects and make-up.
The blood in the movie is pink, not red and all the zombies look like they used flour on their faces for make-up.
I was willing to overlook bad make up and effects because I knew it was an old (1970's) horror classic movie.
I could not however, overlook the lack of script, story or direction.
The movie goes nowhere and I don't feel or care for the characters in the film.
The fact that they were living in the mall and stealing money in a world that was already mostly dead and coming to an ending was laughable.
Were they planning on paying the zombies with the money they stole to not eat them?
The zombie biting scenes were ridiculous and poorly done.
With some biting scences, I did not see the blood (pink blood) like the black woman on her neck in the early part of the film.
I was hoping this film would be good because everyone says its a classic horror film that is scary and gory.
I'm looking for a good straight horror to the core, no non-sense horror film and this is not it.
In reality it is a useless cheap and boring over hyped so-called horror classic.
The Texas Chainsaw Masscare and Halloween was made in the 70's and those movies also had a low buget.
The difference is that those movies are true classics.
A horror movie should be about horrific events and things that happen without your control.
Dancing around and playing games in a mall until you are ready to leave is not my idea of a horror movie.
The ending was wack too, stupid heroic music plays as the black guy decides he wants to live and hits zombies with goofy kicks and fake punches, all the way up stairs to fly away to safety.
I hear the 2003 remake of the dawn of the dead is good.
I will check it out one day but, I must say I regret seeing and buying the original.
Upset and embarrassed is how I felt about this movie and so should the writer and director of this crap.
