Rating: Summary: THIS SEQUEL IS BETTER THAN THE FIRST Review: Gremlins was great,Gremlins 2 was better! The fun just won't let up!I remember when I was eight I was a huge gremlins fan and then Gremlins 2 hit the big screen! My mom called the theater and asked what was playing and they said Gremlins 2. So we hurried over, sat down and as Bugs bunny says "roll'em" and the title "Gremlins 2the new batch" comes on to the screen I wanted to leap with joy! I hadn't been to the theater that much before and it was wierd seeing these creatures on the big screen. It was wonderful! If you haven't seen it before I suggest you watch it! There are lots of cameo's in this movie, watch out for Henry Gibson (my personal favorite actor) and Jerry Goldsmith who did the wonderfully zany score to this movie! watch it,then watch it again, watch it,then watch it again...

Rating: Summary: Gremlins 2/a very cool film. Review: Gremlins 2 is a nice film that is even better than the original. I like how it spoofs everything, and I love the new gremlins. The first batch looked sort of rough and raggedy[but still interesting],while the new batch is bright and vivid.Plus,Gizmo was a blast.I am REALLY looking forward to a third sequal, with CGI/Animatronic gremlins[a sort of Jurassic Park thing].Gremlins 2 is a wild and rowdy romp.
Rating: Summary: Best Reviewed Film of Its Year -- Loving Homage to Movies Review: Superb satire, send-up, and homage, "Gremlins 2" is light years better than the original. Director Joe Dante creates a loving satire of horror movies with Christopher Lee spoofing mad scientists, Phoebe Cates spoofing the first "Gremlins" film, and Tony Randall as the Genius Gremlin spoofing everything from Susan Sontag to Broadway. Watch on a very large screen television so you can see all the details (the homage to It's a Wonderful Life on the monitors in John Glover's office; it's in color and then in black and white), the Gremlin tee shirts with Gizmo on them with a red circle and line through him; the label on the Canadian beer at the new "trendy" Canadian restaurant etc. The film satirizes Ted Turner and Donald Trump in the character played by John Glover as well as trends in movie making (listen for the announcement about the showing of Casablanca with the new, happy ending). And watch for one of the most brilliantly directed scenes in any movie: Just after Gizmo gets wet and bears some offspring, pay attention when janitor John Astin is on the phone describing how the younger workers are forcing out the older ones -- while the new Gremlins are doing just that to Gizmo. It's as if he's reporting what is happening to Gizom. All in all, Dante out did himself with this film. It's a shame that Warner Bros. did not know how to promote it. Interestingly, "Premiere" magazine's chart of movie reviews for the year in which Gremlins 2 was released showed that it was the best reviewed film of the year, averaging 3 1/2 stars from the nation's film critics. It's a loving homage to films in general -- don't miss it, especially if you love a big Broadway number. Coda: I met director Joe Dante in 2000 when the Chicago International Film Festival honored him ... with a showing of Gremlins 2. Turns out that he did the film only because Warner Bros. insisted -- it was the only way he could get to direct other films for them. So he set out to make Gremlins 2 the "sequel to end all sequels" in Dante's words. He may have succeeded.
Rating: Summary: The new and wilder batch of Gremlins Review: "Gremlins 2 - The New Batch" is a much funnier, wilder, and surprisingly even a better movie than the original "Gremlins." Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates are back in this hilarious sequel, and so is Gizmo. Gizmo's old caretaker dies and Gizmo is picked up by some scientists who want to do experiments on him. Billy (Zach Galligan) rescues Gizmo and tells him to stay put until he can take him home. However, Gizmo doesn't stay put and (yep, you guessed it) he gets wet and produces even more of the ecstatic Gremlins than ever before. This time, the Gremlins terrorize a building that belongs to the new business, Clamp. It's up to Gizmo and the people of New York City to find a way, if there is one, to stop the wildly insane Gremlins from taking over the whole city. "Gremlins 2 - The New Batch" is 100 times funnier than the first movie, and you'll know what I mean when you see some of the parts such as one of the Gremlins trying to be a dentist and some Gremlins duking it out with the Duke himself, John Wayne, with some guns in a western movie. The special effects are also a lot better. And the Gremlins are now taking new forms such as electricity, one Gremlin becomes smart and can talk distinguishly, and there's even one that can fly, and one that is in the form of a huge and terrifying spider. These Gremlins are wilder and more uncontrollable by the minute! Pretty much, "Gremlins 2 - The New Batch" is a funnier and more upbeat movie than the original, and that makes for an even more entertaining movie. There's not many sequels to great movies that can even stand up to the original, and especially not many that are better than the original, but "Gremlins 2 - The New Batch" is a huge exception. I recommend this movie to anybody who liked "Gremlins" and to anybody who likes comedy movies at all. This is a must have!
Rating: Summary: Gremlins in Gotham Review: I'm not saying this just because I am a New Yorker, but GREMLINS 2--THE NEW BATCH is slightly better than the original. First, it's a much less mean-spirited film than the first (which I also gave five stars, but for different reasons). Just the fact that a character who was crushed to death in the first film, shows up in the sequel (wearing a small cast) because he really was likeable, shows that Joe Dante and the scriptwriters were going into this film for the fun of it. Second, the casting was flawless. Whoever chose Tony Randall to do the voice of the strangely-William F. Buckley-sounding, intellectual gremlin was responding to nothing short of divine inspiration. Everyone involved in this production had their hearts in the right places and the effect shows. GREMLINS 2--THE NEW BATCH is an astounding piece of comic fantasy and horror that should endure.
Rating: Summary: "Gremlins 2"-As good as the first, maybe better Review: I love this movie! The first "Gremlins" was scary, the sequel is hilarious. The idea of the gremlins running amok inside a New York high-rise,is great. This movie has so many in-jokes I have to watch it over and over to find them all,and i'm not done yet.I have probably seen this film 25 times. I've written this before, but "I love Joe Dante films"!!They are the best.He is the most underrated director working today.every film he makes doesn't disappoint. He always works with the best people.Jerry Goldsmith's scores for his films are thegreatest. The critics just don't get Dante's humour, and alot of moviegoers don't either.Gremlins 2 is definately not oscar material, but it is not supposed to be.It's just entertainment, and on that level it succeeds perfectly. If you loved the first gremlins, are a huge movie fan,or just want to laugh like crazy.See this movie.
Rating: Summary: "There's Broadway shows, we'll have to learn how to... Review: "...buy tickets. Then there's street crimes, but I believe we can watch that for free."
Gremlins had a wonderful story, plot lines, theme, city, and characters to base the gremlins around. Gremlins 2 is about the gremlins themselves, and how they can be manipulated for entertainment. They are really two completely different movies, and good in two separate ways.
The science lab scene says it all about the type of movie Gremlins 2 is. For some reason in this high tech building that is mainly television station based, there is also a science lab that does genetic research. Of course they have random potions lying around like they were a fairy godmother or something. Once the Gremlins break out, in a very similar fashion as the first one, they start drinking the potions. This provides you with female gremlins, spider gremlins, vegetable gremlins, bat gremlins, smart gremlins, etc.
"Peltzer, you're having a psychotic episode. Thanks for sharing it with us."
Joe Dante directs this very interesting movie. He also directed the first Gremlins, along with Small Soldiers, The 'burbs, Innerspace, Twilight Zone: The Movie, and The Howling. I liked how he played off the first Gremlins, almost in a parody way. Phoebe Cates character starts rambling on about Lincolns birthday the same way she did about Christmas in the first movie, then on a television show they start making fun of Gremlins during a movie review television show, etc, etc. Dante really threw the first movie out the window when he made this film.
"Television again? An invention for fools."
The key element to this movie was Dante's ability to bring back Phoebe Cates as Kate Beringer and Zach Galligan as Billy Peltzer. He also brought Dick Miller and Jackie Joseph as Mr. And Mrs. Futterman, who just happened to have a snow plow drive through their house in the first movie, only to get attacked by the bat gremlin in the second.
"Coming to work in a $200 million dollar flee market."
In conclusion, there were many delightful scenes in this film, such as the cooking show that gets infested with gremlins (which reminded me of the kitchen scene with the mother from the first Gremlins). There were also some annoying characters, like the man who developed the "Clamp" corporation, and his line: "developer saves city, I like the sound of that." There were also some very cheesy scenes, such as when Hulk Hogan stands up in the movie theatre and tells the Gremlins to get a hold of themselves. That cheesy scene alone makes me give this movie 4 stars instead of 5.
Gremlins 2 is a movie for entertainment purposes only. Some people may say it is stupid, then they took the movie too seriously. Dante made a very fun movie, and I'm not ashamed to say I found it entertaining, and it is part of my DVD collection.
Grade: B+
Rating: Summary: Not particularly keen Review: I wasn't overly fussed about watching this in the first place, but thought I'd better to stop the brewing argument about to take place between my boyfriend & me. (I promise, I'll watch Indiana Jones sometime).
I couldn't really remember much about the original, except that I loved Gizmo, and I hated the other Gremlins. They seemed to get even uglier in this movie, except for that giggling one, he was cute. But he was just a giggly Gizmo really.
There are two different versions of this movie, and that's the theatrical version, and the one for 'video'. The difference is that in the theatrical version, it appears that the film begins to burn, however, in the video version, this segment is replaced by a segment which simulates a broken VCR machine. This is a really funny bit in the movie, cos I honestly thought the DVD had gone a bit loopy! And then Hulk Hogan appears - whatever happened to him?!
There are loads of references & spoofs, and stuff relating to the first movie. When one of the gremlins gets injected with the bat serum and becomes a bat, it breaks through the window and forms in the broken glass the logo for Batman, another Warner Bros. release. The dentist gremlin, who seriously freaked me out, says "Is it safe?", a reference to Marathon Man. Leonard Maltin is attacked by Gremlins for panning the 1984 movie. An obvious reference to The Wizard of Oz: one gremlin is dressed as the Wicked Witch of the West, melting, saying, "I'm melting! What a world! What a world!" The scene where Kate tells the story of encountering the flasher dressed as Abrahahm Lincoln on Lincoln's birthday was intended as a parody of a scene in Gremlins where she tells Billy about her father's accidental death one Christmas. The character Daniel Clamp, obviously based on real-life real estate tycoon Donald Trump, falls for Billy's manager, Marla Bloodstone, at the end of the movie. Donald Trump was married to Marla Maples. Joe Dante had originally planned for this movie to spoof its predecessor, and elements of this "spoof" are displayed throughout the movie (ie, Kate's monologue, the gremlins being less threatening and more funny, etc) One of the offices in Clamp Towers next to the Splice of Life was "Vectorscope Labs" from the movie Innerspace also directed by Joe Dante. Aside from Mohawk, the other three Mogwai created from Gizmo are called George, Lenny, and Daffy (the first two referring to John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men, the latter referring to Daffy Duck).
Joe Dante being the Looney Tunes mad Joe Dante, there is obviously the references to the Looney Tunes, and also, they feature at the start & end of the movie. During the end credits, Daffy Duck walks onto the screen and comments on the names in the credits, saying things like "Long, isn't it?" "You're still here? Don't you people have homes?" Normally, we don't watch through the credits on DVDs, just at the cinema, but I understood it eventually, when Daffy kept popping up. At the beginning of the film, Bugs Bunny appears on top of the Warner
Brothers Logo as in a Looney Tune Cartoon. At the very end of the film after the credits, Porkey Pig tries to say "That's All Folks", but gets interrupted by Daffy.
I'm sorry to say this movie isn't much better than the original, but then again, sequels rarely are, save a few. I enjoyed both, but they're just not that great. They're not mind-blowing, or anything, just harmless fun. Just don't make me watch Critters? I'll have nightmares after that.
OK, I've watched both movies, and I've done two reviews, can I have my Gizmo toy now please?
Rating: Summary: Funny movie Review: Gremlin movies are never very scary, but they are funny. This movie is especially funny because the Gremlins take all these potions that change them. There is the smart one, the gargoyle, the spider, and the lightning bolt. Christopher Lee is in this movie as a crazy scientist. He is funny in that role. If you are looking to be scared, don't watch this movie. If you are looking for a funny movie, try this one out. Make sure to stick around for the ending in the bathroom. :)
