Rating: Summary: Seriously frightened me Review: I saw this with my cousin when it was released in theaters years ago. I cannot explain my terror of the hearse chauffeur; perhaps it's the fact that he continues to torment Oliver Reed in his nightmares, which are beyond control. I was probably 14 when I first saw this. I am now 38, and to this day I CANNOT watch it alone. Anytime it's been on the late movie and I'm channel surfing alone, I stay faaar away from it. Sounds stupid doesn't it? The fear is real. Go ahead and watch it alone if you don't believe me. Sweet dreams.
Rating: Summary: This is VERY scary! Review: I remember seeing this movie at the theater with 2 of my sisters. We love scary movies, but with this one we could barely make it out to the car and we were still scared all the way home. Loved it!
Rating: Summary: Burnt Offerings totally scared me! Review: I saw this movie when I was a kid and it totally scared me! The ending left me with nightmares. Karen Blacks eyes at the end have never been forgotten! My husband does a perfect imitation of Ms. Black and the evil on her face. He does this in the dark and totally frightens me. Excellent movie. See it.
Rating: Summary: The Scariest Movie I've ever seen Review: I don't know what it is about this film. You don't see any heads or hands being cut off,but this movie scares the hell out of me.The reason is the Chauffer. There's something about the way he smiles, coming for you with that coffin. Also, the ending is great, just when you think everyone is going to get free,LOOK OUT.What a ending.I know Rosie always mentions this movie on her show as the most frightning film she's ever seen. If anyone wants to watch one of the scariest films ever made,go out and rent this movie tonight, but make sure you don't watch this one alone.
Rating: Summary: Awsome Review: This was definitely the most frightening movie I have ever seen. The movies today don't even compare. The ending will knock your socks off. All I can say "dont watch it alone".
Rating: Summary: Excellent overall movie Review: I've read the reviews online and couldn't agree more with most of what appears. I, too, was mesmerized by the chauffeur. He made an instant impression on me, but it was not only his presence which made the movie a truly brilliant, atmospheric flick. It was the performances... I particularly like Oliver Reed and the actors who played the Alidices. Their voice overs at the end of the movie, detailing how the deaths of the family (by no means the first) have regenerated the house to its full splendor. It was effective because like The Shining, the elements of the movie were not altogether understandable. The details are kept surreal and cloudy... Awesome. Worth buying.
Rating: Summary: KAREN BLACK AT HER BEST: THIS MOVIE IS AN ERRIE MASTERPIECE Review: IF YOU LIKE BARBARA STANWICK IN THE MOVIE:"THE NIGHTWALKER"~ YOU WILL LIKE THIS CLASSIC.
Rating: Summary: So-So horror film. Review: This is not a bad movie, but it isn't great, either. Bette Davis over-emotes all over the place, and Oliver Reed is cheesy as heck. But the best thing about the movie is the chauffer and his smile. The scene when he drives up in the car will stay with you for a long time. Rent it, don't buy it.
Rating: Summary: The Chaffer Is Terrifying! Review: 'Burnt Offerings' Is an excellent shocker... one of which you don't see now days.. I just had to give it the highest rating because.. I was truly terrified by the Chaffer in this movie... I thought I was the only one that had this problem till I read the other reviews... This guy is the most scarey image in any movie I have ever seen.. I don't know who he is.. and what it is about him but I get chills just thinking about him.. I can see his face and smile and glasses and hat.. the whole 9 yards and it terrifies me... Watch this movie for a big scare.. and don't go into it thinking about it being some gore-fest or some monster special effects movie.. because its not.. and thats what makes it all the more better.. Im glad to see other movies going back to their own roots when we all acually knew what sheer terror was... Evil People as Evil Imagery, Scarey Surroundings,Real Feeling Terror, and A Haunted House (?!?!!!??) .. It is all here.. and it has a ending to die for... *If anyone out there has had the same problem with being scared to death from this man (the Chaffer) contact me... cause your not alone.. and I would love to talk about it... Later and Happy Haunting...
Rating: Summary: Burnt Offerings is a classic Review: Burnt Offerings which stars my favorite 70s actor EVER Oliver Reed, and the inimitable KAREN BLACK is so creepy, the total suspense of not knowing why Karen Black is so interested in taking care of that old woman, the swimming pool sequences, the death of bette davis, and the ending is so scary, this is one of the best, and if your like me and you LOVE 70s scarefests also get THE BROOD, Hell house, Black Christmas, and the Zodiac Killer.
