Summary: Genuine Horror in a Movie Made In the 90's!
Review: It might be hard to believe but this movie is pretty damn scary! Granted, it does have a lot of funny parts to it but overall this movie really freaked me out! I stayed up the entire night after seeing it, laughing at myself but still unable to go to sleep! I kept telling myself, "Come on man, it's only a Tales From the Crypt movie!" but even that element seemed to be missing (The Cryptkeeper does make a hilarious entrance!)by that I mean it wasn't over the top, made for T.V. campy. This was very well made with some great special effects. This movie was produced by such people as Robert Zemeckis, Richard Donner, Joel Silver, etc...-in other words big names in the movie industry (this flick had some heavy backing!) The story line in this movie was amazingly complex for a horror film, yet it wasn't drawn out! Billy Zane was outstanding as the persistent and demonic "Collector", he pretty much steals the show. This is also the first movie I ever saw Jada Pinkett(Smith) in and she does a great job of playing the reluctant heroine. Bottom line, if you are a fan of horror movies and need something to watch on some gloomy night (I had to throw that in, sorry) that will entertain and scare you, so go pick this movie up!

Review: Tales From The Crypt:Demon Knight. Well, it's about the beginning of time...the world was in darkness until God said "Let there be light" then according to the movie the demons that were living in the darkness were scattered as well as 7 keys that once brought back together could bring the darkness back for the demons to once again roam the Earth. Fast forward a couple million years and here you have the demons with 6 of the 7 keys the final belonging to William Sadler's character who has been chased by the demons for the final key which contains the blood of the most holy one and those that held the key after. The blood protects the key and any drop used repels the demons...he finds himself chased to a motel where he eventually gets surrounded by the demons and must fight them off and then the action begins. Billy Zane plays an excellent lead demon while Jada Pinkett shines as the predecessor to William Sadler. It is a pretty good horror flick. Jada shows her usualy moxy and the film gives you want you want and expect...plenty of gore, blood & a time or 2 to jump from your seat a little.

Review: Very interesting movie. Some scenes are a bit disgusting. Nevertheless the connection of the story line with the crucifixion of Jesu-Christ is quite interesting. And maybe not so crazy after all.
A film worth seeing and thinking of. Not for children!

Summary: Billy Zane Rocks!
Review: Funny, scary, and entertaining, "Tales From the Crypt: Demon Knight" is the first of a series of films that are derived from the popular HBO series. Unlike the "Creep show" and "Tales From the Darkside" films of the past, "Tales From the Crypt" focuses on one tale of horror and suspense each time, allowing the story to develop into a more entertaining experience.

Directed by Ernest Dickerson ("Juice") "Demon Knight" features the immense talents of William Sadler, Jada Pinkett Smith, and the ever versatile, amazing Billy Zane in a horror movie laced with plenty of comedic moments. The story revolves around a key that Sadler is carrying in order to pass on to the next guardian. There are a total of 7 keys, representing a galaxy each. According to Sadler's story, the key contains the blood of Jesus Christ. While dying on the cross at Golgotha, a follower of Christ pour his blood into the key to prevent the conquest of earth and the rest of the universe by Satan and his legion of demons. Until all keys are together can this happen, and with 6 of the keys in the hand of demons, the fate of the universe lies on Pinkett Smith's character, who is the chosen one to carry the key after Sadler.

I must praise Billy Zane. He is amazing. He plays the perfect villain, and in this role he is dynamite. His performance is more comedic, and he would make similar villains of the past such as Freddy Krueger very proud. I can understand why Hollywood has typecasted him as a villain in almost all of his films after seeing this film. Zane's intense sex appeal will captivate many viewers, and his range of emotions is incredible.

Pinkett Smith who was coming into films fresh from the cancellation of the long-running NBC series "A Different World," is great. As the heroine of the movie she really can kick butt, and her on-screen chemistry with Zane is perfect.

In conclusion, this a great film to view if you are in the mood for horror mixed in with a bit of dark humor. The film can be strong at times with the sight of gore and violence, but if it weren't for Billy Zane's performance, I wouldn't have cared to watch this film at all. He is one of the film world's most gifted actors and this film was a showcase of his talent before he became a bigger name when he starred in "James Cameron's Titanic." "Demon Knight" is an excellent example of how to create an entertaining horror film. Skip "Blair Witch" and try this film instead.

Summary: Fasten your drool cups and carry your vomit bags! ;D
Review: Since Halloween is only 3 weeks away, I decided that now is the time for me to review this 1995 horror flick. As a fan of both the HBO series and the overall genre itself, I'm happy to say that this movie is brilliant! There are several reasons why. First and foremost, the Crypt Keeper once again presents to viewers a new slew of morbid jokes and comments...all the while sitting in his own director's chair! Then, the movie itself is a frightful and amusing gorefest that's fueled by a classic plotline of Good vs. Evil. William Sadler (who starred in the 1989 HBO episode "The Man who was Death") plays Brayker, a runaway fugitive who bears a terrible secret: he is forced to battle feral, flesh-eating demons to keep them from bringing Hell's darkness upon the world. His weapon: an ancient key filled with the blood of Christ. Billy Zane (who starred in the 1993 episode "Well-Cooked Hams") revels in his role as the suave and wicked Collector, the King of all Demons. In a deadly pursuit, he chases Brayker to retrieve the key: the relic is one of 7 keys that (if collected) will enable the demons to destroy the universe and devour all of mankind! Eventually, Brayker hides inside a rundown motel where the most violent battle takes place...and only one will survive this bloody feud. In addition, he has to rely on the motel's occupants for help. Such individuals include Uncle Willy, an old and loveable drunk (Dick Miller), Irene, a tough soldier of a woman in charge of the motel (CCH Pounder), and Jeryline, a strong-willed teenager on parol (Jada Pinkett Smith). What really keeps the story going is how internal tensions within the group contribute to the demise of certain characters. Wally (Charles Fleischer), a neurotic ex-mailman, is hopelessly in love with a prostitute named Cordelia (Brenda Bakke). She, all the while, provides her services to her abusive client Roach (Thomas Haden Church). Later on, in an effort to save himself, Roach betrays Brayker by stealing the key and offering it to the demons. The Collector, of course, gave Roach EXACTLY what he deserved!
Fans of gory movies will be pleased at what "Demon Knight" offers. Look out for decapitations, grisly eyeball removal, spiritual possession, cannibalism and crucifictions! Where else can you see "The Shield's" CCH Pounder get one of her arms torn off? Or how about Billy Zane having his demon henchmen emerge from his own oozing, neon green blood? However, not all of the attacks come in the form of mindless violence. Others are psychological, as the Collector seduces some of the characters into his own evil void. One example is how the demons win Uncle Willy over with alcohol and gorgeous women. Another occurs when the Collector tries to win Jeryline over by offering dream vacations. She, fortunately, repels his advances and spits in his face! In the end, this film is worth seeing all the way through. Not only does it retain some of the comic book elements of the television show, but it also unleashes a story that has never been told before. "Demon Knight" is much more entertaining than "Bordello of Blood," which I beg you to avoid at all costs!

Summary: Cheap, B-Movie Fun!
Review: Demon Knight is a blast which is a lot to say for a film that seems to be made on a sixty dollar budget. The special effects are nothing spectacular ( but I appreciated that more than outrageous tricks relied on by films like The Matrix ). This film is the best Tales From the Crypt episode you'll ever see. It may not be filled with the greatest acting or dialogue but it is one of the most entertaining films you'll see in a long time. I saw this in 95' and enjoyed it since then. I've just purchased the DVD and cannot wait to sample the film on high quality stock. Billy Zane shines although a lackluster Jada Pinkett should have been replaced by a more vibrant black actress such as Nia Long. Zane and Pinkett have no chemistry and it surprises that the filmmakers decided to have Pinkett be the " chosen mistress " to Billy's underlord persona. Anyway, this film has a few minor faults but nothing to make this film less than a five-star gem. A hidden jewel if I say so myself.

Summary: Pleasant surprise
Review: I'm a horror movie buff, and like a movie to make me jump during the scarey scenes not make me laugh. This movie did just that. Well cast with Jada Pinkett, CCH Pounder, and Billy Zane playing the demon. Good action scenes. A good enjoyable film.

Summary: A modern day classic
Review: Any fan of the series can appreciate this movie. This isn't just a 90 minute episode though, a lot of thought went into the plot. The characters are well acted and believable, a rarity for the genre, and the plot deals with some off kilter religious themes, not just the same old formula a lot of horror movies are made up of. Definately see this movie even if you aren't a Tales from the Crypt fan.

Summary: Excellent horror film, dreadfully underrated
Review: Ernest Dickerson (Bones) directed this first feature length film based on HBO's Tales From the Crypt series. Demon Knight is a wildly funny, obscenely violent, and downright fun horror film that went virtually ignored by audiences and critics upon it's release, but the film stands today as a truly underrated horror film. When a mysterious stranger named Braker (William Sadler) comes upon a rundown motel in search of sanctuary, he and the other occupants fight for their lives when a demon-esque collector (Billy Zane) and his hordes come calling. Everything about Demon Knight is top notch: from the eye popping (literally) action and gore to various genre in-jokes to the superb performances (Zane and Sadler are terrific), Demon Knight is a true horror gem. The rest of the great cast includes Jada Pinkett, CCH Pounder, Thomas Haden Church, and B-movie favorite Dick Miller. The newly re-issued DVD is another one of Universal's recent re-released horror DVD's that is extra-less, and at least a commentary or documentary would have been a welcome feature.
