Rating: Summary: Where there's no sense, there's no feeling. Review: It's the TP pilot episode which makes it a must have for the TP collector but is this really the best they could do? Whack out a really crappy direct tansfer, ignore all the phase distortion in the sound and just get it on the market for a few bucks? Was Ben Horne involved here? There is so much love and detail in the "Episodes" collection of the series that I can't believe this was actually released to the public. David Lynch, help! Push some buttons, make something happen. Get a better pilot with a few extra features released. I'll rebuy it.
Rating: Summary: Original Aired Pilot Review: This import is the 'originally aired' pilot, (less commercial time) 90 minutes. Does not have the added footage of the longer version, (as that 15 minutes or so) will be shown in the entire sequences, (in proper order) of the season run edition, which makes story flow correctly. This Pilot ends as it should, to ready you for the season premiere. Sound is correct. A couple of 'soft' words in a scene or two are a bit low, but hardly a detraction. 5.1 sound would not improve that. And, why, would you keep the sub-titles "on screen" if you are viewing it in english audio? So,'correct spelling subs' should mean nothing to you. Bottom line.. unless you are a regimented hardcore fanatic 'knitpicker', this edition is the one you need as the prequel to the series.
Rating: Summary: the sound is FINE Review: Maybe I'm not sophisticated enough to appreciate when a dvd's sound quality (is bad), but for all of the complaints & bad reviews about the sound, it was FINE. I bought this only b/c it is the only way to get the pilot, but I was seriously afraid that I wouldn't be able to hear it, or that the sound would be cutting in and out. I was shocked & pleased to find that I could hear everything. The sound wasn't cutting in and out, and there were no other problems that I could detect. But I'm just an average tv viewer, not some industry or production (person). Maybe when I get to the first season dvds I will see a huge difference--whatever! The bottom line for anyone afraid of the slightly ... reviews--don't sweat it. You won't know this is an import if you are a regular joe who doesn't mistake TELEVISION for a fine cinematic or symphonic experience. You will be able to hear everything a-okay, and you will be glad that you got the pilot so that you know what is going on in the rest of the series.
Rating: Summary: How can anybody in good conscience release a dvd like this! Review: I loved the series "Twin Peaks" and the movie-length pilot episode is probably its pinnacle. That was why buying this dvd was so dispiriting. Firstly, this is not the complete American version of the pilot as far as i'm concerned. In fact, it lopped off the most intriguing part of the pilot - the Man from Another Place dream (with the dancing midget). This version ends with Harry Truman's comment that it has been 24hours since the murder, while he's with Josie. I'm sure there was an extra 20min or so that was not included. Secondly, the sound quality of this dvd is absolutely terrible. Thirdly, the bonus features are nothing more than trailers for other terrible movies released by the same shocking distribution company. Fourthly, the sub-titles are obviously written by somebody with no skill at languages - they border on incomprehensible. So, in sum, only buy this dvd if ur dying to obtain a copy of the pilot. Otherwise, wait for an official version to arrive (soon, god willing).
Rating: Summary: 4 stars easy Review: Not the greatest quality sound wise...however the picture is fair and having this after waiting forever is well worth the price to pay for it here! If you love the show this is NEEDED! would have gotten 5 stars if not for the bad sound...(sounds like its in a bucket at times)...hey, it IS an import!! get it while it lasts!!! good disc and good price!!
Rating: Summary: The one that started it all Review: This is the first episode that aired. It sets the foundadtion for the rest of the series and draws you in to the seemingly eternal question, who killed Laura Palmer.
Rating: Summary: Still amazing Review: I have no clue what any negative reviews for this product are based on. The transfer, while not as great as for Season 1, is still better than when it originally ran on tv. Sound quality was good. and the movie itself is amazing. This film is not dated at all, it is just as good now as when it originally debut. There is no show on tv today of this quality. I love this DVD no we just need season 2 and 3 to be released on DVD. Buy this DVD, you won't be disappointed unless you are looking for extras, there are none.
Rating: Summary: DVD is not always better. Review: The rating is based on the quality of the DVD itself, not Twin Peaks! I had the VHS version of the Pilot but sold it since I was switching over to DVD's. But I was disappointed with the DVD version. The sound and picture quality is awful especially for a DVD. Also, the VHS version of the Pilot Episode contains extra scenes that aren't included on the DVD. If you are still using VHS out there, I recommend buying that version and not the DVD.
Rating: Summary: THERE IS ABSOLUTLY NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS DVD!!!!! Review: This is a perfectly good quility DVD. All of you audiophiles made me wet my pants before I got this disc, and finally when it came in I had no idea what you people were talking about. It has a nice transfer and clear picture (hell it aint superbit but c'mon its a made-for-TV-movie) and the sound is fine. There is no phasing problems from the rear speaker that I could hear, and it ruined the presentation becuase I kept waiting for it. Simple consumers, dont listen to what these people are telling you. They're out of their minds. All I do nowadays is watch my DVD's, and I have not a single complaint with this one.
Rating: Summary: Twin Peaks Pilot Review: Twin Peaks can do no wrong. This was sweet a sweet find on DVD.
