Summary: 12 minutes of extra scenes help augment the story
Review: This latest re-release of "Halloween" includes 12 extra minutes of scenes shot during the production of "Halloween II" to pad the running time when it was released for television. Much of it is of Donald Pleasance, with him confronting a young Michael Myers as well as the hospital staff, begging them to send Michael to a more secure institution. Pleasance is also seen examining Michael's room after his escape. Jamie Lee Curtis, Nancy Loomis, and P.J. Soles also reappear for some girl chatter. These additional scenes do help to augment the story, and they are well done.

Review: This new, Extended version of Halloween is something no fan should be without! 12 minutes of additional footage (4 scenes) has been put into the original version, and the result is awesome. These scenes were not deleted. They were really shot in 1980, when the film was released on cut TV. The scenes were shot using the cast and crew of Halloween II (another must see!) and directed by John Carpenter, himself. These scenes include:#1 A very well made scene where Dr. Loomis (Doneld Pleasance) has an intense conversation with two sanitarium officials. He begs that they move Myers to a maximum security ward, saying that the boy is dangerous and has an instinctive forsce within him. The officials are unimpressed by what Loomis says, and simply keep Myers in the minimum security ward. #2 A scene directly following the previous added scene. Loomis walks into young Michael's cell. For about 1 minute he simply stares at the boy, who stares out the window. Loomis then says "You've fooled them, haven't you Michael? But not me!" #3 This scene is after Myers escape. Loomis walks with a nurse into Michael's room, which is completely trashed. The nurse shows him that the word "Sister" is carved in the door. (If you've seen Halloween II, then you know what this means). #4 This final additional scene is my personal favorite. In this scene we get a bit more of Jamie Lee Curtis, a bit more of PJ Soles, and a bit more of Nancy Kyes/Loomis. Lynda (Soles) comes over to Laurie's (Curtis) house, and they have some girl chat. Then, Annie (Kyes/Loomis) calls and asks (unsuccesfully) if she can borrow some of Laurie's clothes. I really love this new version of Halloween. It just feels more complete. I know that these scenes WERE NOT in the original version, but it's way better off with them in there. John Carpenter has said he hates these scenes (as some other reviewers may tell you) but that is HIS opinioun. I love these scenes. They make the movie make a bit more sense. For example, the scene wher Loomis fights with the officials really shows how hard he tried to get them to move Michael. Later on he talks about how much he tried to get them to move him, and this added scene shows you how right he is. The scene with "Sister" really helped connect this to the 2nd (making a great double feature). And the scene with Lynda, Annie and Laurie shows a bit more of their personal lives. Awesome. This version was only available on either the two tape Special VHS editions (where they were AFTER the movie) and on the THX Two Disk Anchor Bay Limited Edition (which is 150 bucks to buy on Amazon used!). I tried really hard to find that two disk limited edition, but I was to late. So this here DVD is like a dream come true. Thank you Anchor Bay! I suggest (unless you have the two disk version) that you buy one now, before it, too, goes out of stock! Halloween is Rated R for Small Violence, Brief Nudity, and brief Language. Review: Well, let's get one thing straight. The Halloween series was the first horror series I ever watched. I've watched each one countless times, but I've definetly watched the original the most times. When I heard of that 2-disk limited edition, I tried to get it, but it was gone! So, I bought the one-disk, theatrical version, and was pretty happy with it, but then, out came this version. I was so excited, and I thank anchor-bay for re-releasing the TV version. When I got this I went straight to the added scenes. I couldn't help feeling a tad dissapointed. As you propably know, these scenes were NOT deleted, but added in 1981, when it was shown on cut TV. John Carpenter shot these with the crew from Halloween II. So, they do feel pretty un-even. Whenever I watch a directors cut (Spawn, Terminator 2 Judgement Day) I always feel that the deleted scenes slip perfectly into the movie. They make it even better, and they're not un-even. With this though, they felt kind-of in a hurry. I mean, in all the scenes (particularly the one where Lynda comes over to Lauries house) they seem like they're in a hurry and only have 15 minutes to shoot the scene. That just kind-of annoyed me. The first additional scene takes place directly after Michael murders his sister. The scene takes place in 1963, with Dr. Loomis (the late, great Doneld Pleasance) arguing with the doctors at Smith Grove. He sais that Michael Myers must be removed from the sanitarium. The doctors say he's not even dangerous. The scene is OK, probably my least favorite of the four that are added. It's just a tad long. The next scene is right after Loomis debates with the other doctors. He goes into Michael's room and says "You fooled them haven't you Michael? But not me!" It's actually very cool. You get to see Michael as a boy! The next addition is after Michael's escape. Loomis is shown by a nurse the word "Sister" is engraved in Michael's door (for those of you who have seen the second, you know what that means). The last additional scene is where Lynda comes over to Laurie's house to borrow some clothes. She says that there's this weirdo following her. I enjoyed this scene. As for this DVD itself, it's not to exciting. The picture is obviously not THX Remastered (as the other disk was) because the pictures a tad mudgy. That's not to big a deal, but it is very noticable. Some other reviewers have said that the TV scenes are not presented in widescreen, but they ARE! Those reviewers need to watch this again. All in all, I'd recommend this to those who haven't got the Restored Limited Edition (if you've got that, why bother with this one?)...

Summary: The best version of the best horror film.
Review: When I first saw this film at 14, I was astounded by how harrowing it could be. I do enjoy horror films, and this redefined the genre for me. This television edit was the first version I ever saw, so when I finally bought it on VHS and noted that it was missing some (personally deemed) crucial scenes, I was annoyed. It has taken Anchor Bay forever to release this, and I am glad they did. This is one of the best horror films ever made, and this is the definitive version.

Review: Wow!What can I say ,this is one awesome DVD.Ever since my brother introduced me to HALLOWEEN on vhs when it was released many years ago I have not looked back...Whoever came up with the idea of these DVD releases ,keep them coming.I just returned my brothers original HALLOWEEN vhs after having it for years.The new HALLOWEEN extra added footage is so good 'it makes the movie already great, that much more better.Those scenes make the movie whole.DONALD PLEASENCE is a great actor as is Jamie lee curtis.JOHN CARPENTER/DEBRA HILL made in my opinion the greatest horror,thriller,suspense movie in our generation!Can't wait for HALLOWEEN 8.So for now lock your doors,turn out the lights and put in the new HALLOWEEN EXTENDED VERSION.
