Rating: Summary: another money maker- nothing to see here folks move along Review: ok this is my review, if you want to know what the movie is about than read the description.....this movie is just like Scream or I know What You Did Last Summer. A group of friends in college are being murdered. The murders are done in the same manner as various Urban Legends. This group of friends also take a class that involves discussing Urban Legends and a teacher (Robert Englund) who is well versed in Urban Legends. As the murders happen each of the characters are given lines to make you think they are the killer. Who the real killer is although is not very well hidden, and the writers did not go through much effort to make the plot dive much belowe the surface. thats all their is to this film....take that concept, draw out the movie with a couple of murders, and ta-da you make a few bucks
this movie offers nothing new, and in my opinion was only made to make money, and does not go out the way to make the story intriguing or even interesting.... those are my bad comments, good comments would be, that at least the movie does deliver a basic horror story and does a decent job. It is by the book, and offers nothing new to the genre. A good one for teens of the day, but offers very little to horror fans...but...it could be worse. If there is nothing better to watch on tv, watch it, if you like scream and want to see another like it, rent it...if you want a movie with some quality and really has a good story, do not rent....
Rating: Summary: urban legend Review: i remember seeing this film and to be honest the film is really good up until the end when you find out who is the killer, and then comes the let down, its totally unrealistic to think that a small teenage girl has been killing all these people in a furr hooded coat whilst in all the shots of the person in the coat you imagine it to be a big strong man.But there are some scary moments.Plus Joshua Jackson is pretty fine in it.-even tho he dies like straight away.
Rating: Summary: Not being a big fan of the slasher genre Review: who likes films that are actually scary (which means something more intelligent than someone jumping around a corner) I'm often tempted to rent a scary movie that seems to be something beyond the slashing and cutting. Every once in a while I do manage to find a truly scary movie (such as the first The Blair Witch Project), or at least intelligent enough to be give us room for though (the first Scream, for instance). Unfortunately, Urband Legend wasn't such a film - even though it was persumably witty and self referential, just as Scream was. So I'm giving it 2 stars for the effort, but 0 for the result.
Rating: Summary: One of the best, most compelling slasher films I've seen Review: Urban Legend just does not get the respect it deserves. Far from being a Scream clone, it is one of the most impressive slasher films of recent years in my opinion. The suspense is sustained throughout, the identification of the killer is handled superbly, and the ending is well-nigh perfect. The cast is simply terrific; how many horror films can claim actors and actresses the likes of Alicia Witt, Rebecca Gayheart, Tara Reid, John Neville, and Robert Englund? I would not have minded a little more gore, but there's an acceptable level of blood and suffering here. It all really starts with the impressive storyline, though. A serial killer who constructs his/her kills on urban legends - fantastic. Maybe it's not a wholly original idea, but no film had ever taken the premise to the extreme the way Urban Legend did. It is so important for a film such as this to start off with a real bang, and Urban Legend wastes no time sinking its claws into the audience. A young girl just manages to make it to a gas station in the middle of nowhere when her tank hits empty, finds herself attacked by the strange, revolting attendant there, and manages to escape - only to have her head chopped off by a stranger in the back seat. Why they bother to do a decapitation scene and not show me the head is a question I have to ask, but certainly the opening scene tells the audience to buckle up for a wild ride. The setting for everything that happens here is Pendleton University, voted the safest school in the country by a prominent news magazine (despite the fact its campus security force consists of one lone woman). As we meet our major players in the film, the topic of urban legends comes up in the wake of the murder we already witnessed. Natalie Simon (Alicia Witt) does not admit that she knew the victim, but the successive actions taken by the mysterious killer place her right in the middle of things. Not only are the next victims her friends, she basically sees all of them get killed with her own eyes (or hears with her own ears in the case of the classic "Don't turn on the light" murder). Still, it takes time for her to convince anyone of what she is saying. Sure, the decapitated girl was murdered, but Victim #2 is a practical joker who probably went off to party the weekend away, and Victim #3 is ruled a suicide by the tight-lipped school administration. The murders continue, the tension builds up pretty powerfully, and the list of possible suspects dwindles as the body count rises. I have to admit that the big finish took me by surprise; maybe I should have figured out the killer's identity by that time, but I didn't - not by a long shot. Among the talented cast, Alicia Witt and Rebecca Gayheart give particularly impressive performances. Gayheart in particular really expanded her acting repertoire with this film. The less talented cast members, as it turns out, were pretty much the first to be dispatched, and this works out well. It's always nice when a particularly annoying character you expect to have to deal with until the end gets offed in the first half hour. All told, I actually consider Urban Legend to be a much more original, shocking, effective film than any of the Scream movies it is invariably compared to. The final revelations of this film, as I have already mentioned, took me completely by surprise, and that really doesn't happen all that often. Urban Legend has everything a good slasher film needs, it tells an original story in a highly compelling way that actually makes sense, and it features a real humdinger of an ending. This is the best film in this genre that I have seen in a very long time.
Rating: Summary: URBAN LEGENDS AREN'T TRUE... Review: I was nine when I first saw this and scared the holy f**cking bejeebuz out of me. It really was that f**cking scary. It opens with a young woman driving on a dark road, singing the words to a song on the radio(very badly). She stops at a gas station, but runs when she thinks the attendant is attacking her. However the true threat lies in her back seat. Before she can do anything, an axe takes off her head. Fast Forward a day or two. Natalie, a student at a prestigious College has started doing urban legends in one of her classes. But soon, students begin to die, a guy who's hitting on her, her Goth room-mate. But all the deaths are based on hideous modern day myths, Urban Legends. Natalie was present at every one, but nobody does anything. She and the survivors race to discover who's killing both students and members of the school faculty. And this is where the twist turn comes in. A killer new breed of horror, with a slightly less good sequel, Urban Legend ranks number two on my teen slasher flicks (behind Final Destination).
Rating: Summary: Original Review: This is a wonderful movie it is very original. Their is nothing like it. I would say one of the best scary movies ever! The ending really surprised me because the killer was really nice when that person was not killing anyone. Good acting, directing, and good costums. Definately see this this movie.
Rating: Summary: A mix of horror and humour! Review: I loved this movie because it had a great sraightforward story! Much like Scream. Very scary! It is very hard to find a good slasher flick that wasn't done in the 80's. The has a rampaging killer killing teens on campus based on Urban legends! It has humour, and suspense! Very fun! It has scenes that make you chew your nails off! I hope you enjoyed my review, and plan to see this!
Rating: Summary: Good idea, mediocre delivery Review: Yeah, the premise is cool, but it wears thin fast. By the end it all just seems so silly and predictable. Decent production values and a few scary moments don't quite make this worth a second watch. Just how did Jared Leto just appear in the other room at the end? And where exactly were they driving to so fast at the end? Good idea, just underdeveloped and mediocre in its delivery.
Rating: Summary: one of the better Scream wannabes Review: Entertaining and good performances. Worth the cash. Score: 88/100
Rating: Summary: good, funny, and scary. All in one film. Review: When my mom rented this movie 4 years ago when it just got in video stores I didn't even dare to watch it becuase of the "I know what you did" movies. They were really scary for a 13 year old who hasn't seen but 2 horror movies at the time. But I watched it and it was a preety cool movie.I like this movie very much because of the quite gory murder scences and the humor. The acting is great ( especially Rebecca Gayheart, which I remember from those make-up commericals and that season long stint of on Beverly Hills 90210).Alicia Witt also made the movie good as Natalie, the college student that has a dark secret that involes a car accident. Her character Nat reminds me so much of Jamie lee Curtis when she was in the orignal "Halloween" as Laurie Strode. The story line is about six college students who are being stalked and later killed by a ax-weilding killer who bases his or her gory murders on american folklores called "urban legends". Example #1 a girl gets her head cut off from a stranger in her backseat. Example #2 another character gets hung from a tree while his girlfriend watches. Example#3 Nat and Michelle ( girl that gets her head cut off) was involed with a game of gang high beam initiation killing some guy in the process which a year later results the reason the killer is stalking Natalie. My favorite scence is when Sasha is in the radio station and the killer goes after her. I think that was the best chase scence that I ever seen.Sasha's death isn't cool thought, they didn't show anyting but the ax going up and down and blood flying. Other than that I loved the movie. It was great, funny, and scary. All in one film. It's a must see for horror fans.
