Summary: JASON IS BACK AND BETTER THAN EVER
Review: I've seen every Friday The 13th movie and by far is the best. It would be better if Kane Hooder played the part of Jason. The beging was awsome. How they dug up Jason's grave and drove the pipe in his chest was so cool!

Summary: Is Paramount on drugs?
Review: I have to say that as a long time Friday the 13th fan I will
NOT buy parts 5 or 6 on DVD.
This may sound shallow, but I CANNOT get past the pathetic,
poor excuse for a cover. Did Paramount lose the legal rights
to the original poster/artwork? That is the only sane explanation
that I can think of for not putting it on the DVD cover.
Let's face it people, the cover sells the DVD!
Jason lives is one of the best in the series. But due to the
fact that the artwork ... (it's more reminiscent of Blair
Witch than F:13th) and there are NO special features and it is
NOT in 5.1 I will NOT BE BUYING anymore of the Friday the 13ths
on DVD.

And you KNOW that a year or so from now they are going to release
a SPECIAL EDITION that actually has value.

Do yourself a favor - boycott this poor excuse of a classic
movie series release!!!!! Perhaps then, Paramount will release
a REAL version of the film with ORIGINAL artwork!!!!!!

Summary: Jason Lives! (and no one is surprised)
Review: I hadn't seen this film in a decade until I bought this DVD. I thought I was going to get re-acquainted with an old friend. When I was a high school sophomore, this movie was all the rage, especially the now silly Alice Cooper soundtrack. Well into adulthood now, I found it a semi "pleasant" waste of time. Where does the movie go wrong for me? Well, lets see. Its PART 6 of a series that seemed pretty tired after 3. The screenwriter should be commended for including the "spoof" moments. It almost seemed like it was an "assingment" and the writer had to come up with something different. Well, it doesn't work after 10 minutes. The movie can't decide if its a slasher film, goof fest, sex comedy or action packer. In this, it loses all semblence of plot. What kept the first 2 films alive was its eery sense of menace. Here, that menace is thrown off. Jason is no longer a stalker, he's more of a supernatural action figure. While the first 10 minutes play off like some weird cross between "Frankenstein" and "The Mummy", the rest of the movie never finds its footing. It tries to be a goofy comedy (thank God that didn't last very long). It tries to tie past plot lines together (it doesn't). It tries so hard to gain credibility (it never does). Finally, we are expected to believe that the lead actor looks ANYTHING like Corey Feldman (well, maybe that wasn't such a good thing). Instead of shock, we are left with the inevitable. As with all Jason films, there is always a sense at the end that some Paramount executive was greasing up the mill for the next year (and they did).

The DVD looks and sounds terrific. From a technical standpoint, its probably one of the better in the series. As for the packaging, it was probably a pretty calculated thing to give the graphics a facelift. I think the ad graphics for 5-9 were neglible at best to begin.

The extras on this disc are pretty puny. We get a trailer, but it is only a teaser trailer and never identifies the film (although as I recall from a darkened movie theatre in the mid 1980s, NO ONE needed to guess what THIS movie was going to be.

Summary: Happy Friday the 13th :)
Review: Yes, I was pretty happy when I heard that Paramount were expanding their released Friday DVD's to include Parts 5 and 6. Especially six, as it has a special place in my (bleeding) heart. This was the first Friday the 13th I ever watched and to this day still remains my favourite. Argueably, this is the first friday the 13th where the film openly makes fun of itself and the genre yet includes all the gore a horror enthusiast could want :)

Some of the deaths are downright humorous (Breaking a guy in half - literally), but a ROCKING Soundtrack from the Immortal ALICE COOPER (He's the best!) definately makes this a necessity for the home collection.

The only reason this DVD gets 4 out of 5 is due to the Severe (!) lack of Bonus Features and the Sound. PARAMOUNT: Could we please get 5.1 mixes?!?!?! If not, at least some Deleted Scenes / Interviews / Commentary for the Bonus Features section? Let's make a little EFFORT here guys, and stop stiffing us on the Discs, because we all full well know that in a year or so, you'll probably release a box set with enough features to make you gag, rendering these discs obsolite. :( Not good.

Well, back to topic, this film was great; my personal favourite Friday the 13th and DEFINATELY worth a view... or two ... or three ... etc.

Summary: JASON LIVES WITH A VENGEANCE on DVD in THIS VERY FUN SEQUEL
Review: First, I can say I liked JASON LIVES - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 6, which I thought was one of the better sequels in the film series and a big improvement over the depressing NEW BEGINNING. JASON LIVES - FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 6 was surprise hit when released theatrically on Friday, August 1, 1986 as people packed up movie houses to see Jason at his evil deeds.

In this sequel, Tommy Jarvis (b-film babe Thom Matthews)along with his friend Alan Hawes (Welcome Back Kotters' Horshack - Ron Palillo) go to the cemetary to dig up Jason's grave, believing he is not dead. Thier worst fears are confirmed as Jason comes back to life by bolts of lightening - and this sequel lives up to its title, JASON LIVES !

FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 6 is filled with one liners and comical bits to fluffen up this fun horror film. Upon Jason's resurrection, he goes back to the camp, targets on the camp counsellors and even pays the kiddies a visit, a first in the series. This films' intro gets the James Bond 007 treatment, feautures Tony Goldwyn (who became recognized in 1990's Ghost) and has an ending I thought was the best ending in the film series. JASON LIVES in definitely fun to watch from beginning to end.

I bought the DVD this week and I can say I am glad that I did. First, the DVD cover and the menu board are designed very BADLY and is all bad !Paramount should have left the original artwork alone. Alongside, this film is presented in standard widescreen (1.85:1) with Digital Dolby Surrond 2.0 Sound (a first in the series)that sound much better than the first five films on DVD. JASON LIVES' picture quality is in my opinion, the best transfer to DVD I have seen. With hardly no blemishes, grain and dirt, I was very pleased with the picture quality of JASON LIVES. Also, with lacking extras (Paramount's specialty), there is a teaser trailer that I thought was well done. I was hoping for a theatrical trailer, too. That, was not included.

Overall, JASON LIVES is the one to have on DVD and is overall fun. Too bad the DVD cover artwork is shoddy. A case of "don't judge a book by its cover".

Summary: Fady Ghaly's reviews
Review: This entry in the series-described by many other reviewers as being the "coolest"-surprisingly had a great sense of humor, and although it is wittier than it is frightening, it still manages to offer a few honest shocks and an underlying feeling of tensity. And speaking of the word "shocks", this completely re-created Jason that is featured in this one is given a change that is ever so drastic to the former ones, in both physical and mental aspects that were ever so suitable for his character in general. For he now has transfigured into this unstoppable killing machine, this decaying zombie-like stalker who's beyond from being scarier than he ever was, which makes matters all but more entertaining as it even builds up greater tension. No longer does he run after his victims or whimper when he's injured, because from the looks of it...he no longer feels any pain. He's become completely impassive. The filmmakers really gave us a treat this time. First it was the infamous hockey mask, and now it's an entirely new Jason! What is so unique and realistic about him is that the filmmakers kept in mind of the period of time he spent beneath soil, and so bother to expose of the affect that has upon his maturing carcass, as you actually observe maggots swarming all throughout his face in the beginning as he awoke, indulging upon his flesh and such...or whatever remained of it, anyway. It's brilliant!
And I was glad over the comeback-the actual comeback-of Tommy Jarvis's character, played by Thom Matthews this time rather than Corey Feldman. It's always interesting to see the reaction a character has when realizing that his worst nightmare, one to completely disintegrate the joyous individual in whom he once was, has re-awakened to rather than torment him in his dreams, do so in the flesh. (Whatever remained of it, anyway.)

Summary: Scary Well-Done 6th Installment
Review: Friday the 13th Pt. 6 is one of the better films of the slasher series; there are a number of scenes that are genuinely scary and terrifying. Case and point, the opening "resurrection" of Jason in the storm swept graveyard. After escaping the grave, Jason once agains makes a B-line for Camp Blood on Crystal Lake, where after slashing his way through more nubile young co-eds and assorted townspeople, he confronts his grown up nemisis from Pt. 4 Tommy Jarvis. The real horror of this movie may lie around the use of a couple dozen young children as innocent by-standers in the campgrounds as the gruesome killings occur around them. Although you know there's no way you'll see Jason slice up some 7 yr. olds, the terror that he might is quite real. By this time in the series, the gore-content was extensively diminished, replaced with, unfortunately, far less-graphic scenes. (This is especially true in Pts 7 & 8) For example, you see Jason grab one girl back into the cabin, hear her scream and then tossed from the cabin but never see the actual carnage taking place. I'm sure with the impending release of "Jason X" in 2002, the gore-content will be back up to more acceptable levels. But regardless, for a good scare and quality slasher flick, Pt. 6 is top notch.

Summary: A Good Slasher
Review: Friday The 13th 6 is a trash film. That much is obvious. Does that mean it can't be fun and entertaining? Of course not. Jason is ressurected again and begins a new batch of killings at the newly renamed Camp Crystal Lake. The movie has a more stylish direction to it than the others. What this movie also delivers a sense of humor. This is something that was lacking from the others. Once again, the storyline is another rehash of every other Friday The 13th movie. Just be aware of that before you see this expecting intelligent filmmaking.

Summary: Jason Lives?
Review: Basic idea of the movie was cool. Back at Camp Crystal lake and all. Unfortunately this movie is what got Jason the Zombie relesed on the world for countless cheesy F13 flicks. The latest of which Jason is in space. So I blame this movie for the ones that followed. All in all however Friday the 13th part VI: Jason Lives is one of the better F13 sequals. A must have for a horror fans DVD collection.
