Summary: A VERY HORRIBLE & DEPRESSING NEW BEGINNING
Review: First off, I would like to say that I hate the DVD cover of FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 5 - A NEW BEGINNING. When we all found out that Part 4 wasn't the Final Chapter, the Friday fan base droppped down the roof like buckets and the boxoffice reciepts are the very proof of that.

When released to theatres in March 1985, the only reason that Paramount continued with further sequels because back in 1983, when the Final Chapter was in production, Wes Craven took his Nightmare on Elm Street project to Paramount that year and was flatly rejected because they found it to be like "DreamScape", a boxoffice flop released the year before by Paramount. Then, New Line Cinema picked up the project and the rest is history. Paramount tried to cash on in on the Freddy Kreuuger empire (which they kicked themselves in the teeth for) but could never succeed. Thus, the rights of Friday the 13th was sold to New line Cinema in 1992 as Paramount gave up on Jason.

The story takes us back to the "mystery" formula, like the first film which leaves the viewer bored. Tommy Jarvis, now at a loonie bin (with a another bunch of loonies), where Joey is hacked to death, become systematic victims by a masked killer, a Jason wannabe, who, in my opinion, needs crutches. Pam (Melanie Kinniman) and Reggie the Reckless (Shavar Ross) were too annoying to watch. I found the New Beginning to be very depressing, very horrible and the worst sequel until Jason Takes Manhattan came along.

The DVD is presented in standard widescreen (1.85:1) with a picture quality is a heck of an improvement than the dismal Final Chapter. With the fewest grains and blemishes, the overall picture quality is very good. The sound quality is also very good too, as this is the last film in the series to be presented in Mono Sound.

As for extras, which always lack, there is a theatre trailer which was well done. The menu board, interactive scene board along with a scene selection card, look awfully bad.

Overall, FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 5 - A NEW BEGINNING is a must have for die hard fans of the Friday series.

Summary: why the bad reviews??
Review: yes i admit that this isnt the best of the friday the 13th series, but it is entertaining and pretty scary,i think the reason why alot of ppl didnt like this movie was because the real jason wasnt in it,but so what????? i actually thought it was the real jason almost the whole movie because the guy who played jason moved like him, killed like him and acted like him and i was kind of dissapointed at the end when i found out when it wasnt the real jason, but we didnt find out it was a fake jason till the very end of the movie, for most of the movie i was very convinced that it was the real jason,so give it a try and look post that it isnt the real jason

Summary: Another Paramount censorship job
Review: Like all the films in the Friday the 13th series, this one also suffered heavy censorship in order to obtain that precious R-rating. My advice would be to pass on this film until Paramount smartens up.

Summary: Average slasher movie can't be saved by DVD release
Review: If the VHS sucked, than so does the DVD. Paramount has once again decided not to release any new extras other than a trailer on the new DVD. FRIDAY THE 13TH: NEW BEGINNING is an average slasher movie that has ALL the stereotypes one might expect. But surprisingly enough, it's fun to watch on that level alone. This movie is for die hard slasher fans only, who like movies with no plot and trashy teenagers who only have sex on the mind. NEW BEGINNING was a let down to fans after a very good FINAL CHAPTER, but luckily the studio made up for it with JASON LIVES. Now if only Paramount would realize that they could actually make NEW BEGINNING more appealing if they released the director's cut with all the extra gore and some type of "making-of" documentary. The FRIDAY movies have loads and loads of goodies out there, but the studio has yet to let them see the light of day.

Summary: The Worst Entry In The Series
Review: First of all, I'm not rating this one star because Jason isn't in it. It really wouldn't matter one way or the other if this was the real Jason in it, or if it were any other Jason movie, it would still be the same. Of course, any other Jason movie would be just as bad. As a fan who enjoys total cheese like this, I can't even say this one is even fun in the total braindead way. An imposter is using Jason's old MO and knocking off crazy kids at some woodsy halfway house. Tommy Jarvis, from Part 4, is now nutty after the events of Part 4. Rightfully so. He is now a guest at this halfway house. The part is now played by John Shepard, after having been played by Corey Feldman in the previous film. Feldman has a cameo in the opening teaser. There seem to be more kills than usual in this film. That will please gorehounds. The murders themselves are quite graphic and interesting. That's pretty much all you can look forward too in these movies. So, what do you get in the way of total carnage and mayhem?. Axe in back, road flare in mouth, throat slashed, knifed under bed, a head dismemberment, cleaver in face, knife in head, eyes gouged out, clippers in eyes, and a few others. The acting is awful, except for the batty neighbor lady next to the nut house. She is actually kinda funny. I can't think of the actress' name, but she was a great loon and she was actually fun to watch. Too bad there wasn't more of her. The women are also one thing to sorta look forward too in these films. They are always babes and you can bet your money that there will be nudity at some point. Some of them are okay in this. A lot aren't. This is is the least of the Friday films. You won't miss anything by skipping this one. But the same could be said for every film. But, if you must see every Friday film, be my guest. The absolute worst. Not that the others are great cinema either.

Summary: 5 = #1
Review: Part 5 brought some life back into the series. This is one of my favorite ones. Ok,no Jason (exept in a dream in the beginning), but who cares, you still have your this time "mystery man" killing people (in some really interesting ways,ie-leather strap)wearing a hockey mask. And it probably the funniest of them all,not to mention some hot chicks for its time.

Summary: F13 PART 5 = GREAT SLASHER
Review: Jason Is back once again, but who is Jason?. Ok so it may not be the real Jason Voorhees who we all love and adore but There is a mystery as to who The imposter Jason is. F13 part 5 has the highest body count and is just an all round great movie. Tommy Jarvis does battle with Jason once again. Ignore the bad reviews if there is any, Friday the 13th part 5 is a good worthy entry to the series.

Summary: This Is A Whole New Game
Review: Tommy Jarvis, the kid who killed Jason Voorhees, is now in a halfway house because, he keeps seeing visions of Jason. Which makes him a nut. This was an okay movie. It wasn't better than the first four, but it was a lot better than Part VIII.

A lot of people don't like this, mostly because of the ending. But it made sense of how the killer was back. People who have seen this movie, will know what I mean.

I actually would have rated this movie two and a half stars.

So if you're the kind of person who likes make-sense horror films, then this one shouldn't bother you too much.

Summary: Friday the 13th 5: A New Beginning With A Different Killer
Review: After number four, this one uses the same material, but enlongens it. For example, there is much more violence and language. Of course it has everything the other ones do, it also makes a few cool changes. It unravels like a mystery, you would have to see it to know what I am talking about. The characters are not bad, some of them funny. Some of the humor is sick, like when the fat chocolate boy interferes with the punk's wood chopping. Tommy is in this one. Cant say that I ever liked him, he is always predictable and standard. I can make a few exceptions in number four, but in this one he is a plain lunatic, and a slasher movie does not need two lunatics unless you are watching a Scream movie. I was always kind of hoping that the series would suprise you with him, like he is a big character and "tragically" dies in the middle of one of the films. But no, he always has it his way, every time. If he wants to live, then he lives. If he wants to chop Pam up into five hundred pieces as a martini for his own lunacy, he could. Anywho, back to the film. The plot is where Tommy goes wacko( and it is suggested that he may be on drugs as well ) after his family is hacked to death by Jason, he is rolled away to a halfway house. He is quiet and still does the Halloween mask gig, and scares "Reggie the Reckless" away with one of his masks. Jake has relations with Bill from the movie IT, and I thought Jake was a cool character. He, like any other guy would do, tried to make another chick give love him, but she laughs in his face as if he asked permission to soil himself. This one hick that is a boyfriend of another girl he makes out with on other peoples' property is later mauled by maniac Tommy. I dont have to say much about Reggie's grandpa, but his brother is a slick talking junkie. The house's lead counsellor is an ordinary one. These two greaser looking losers die after their car breaks down. A medical junkie and his girlfriend dont get to see much of the film. The girls have different personalities. One a pervert, one a girl who enjoys listening to cyber music, one a redhead that just laughs at the wrong moments, and that is about all. There are some cool parts in the movie, the deaths are gory and some worth paying close attention to. The ending is different, and it is strange that the killer is mortal, and yet he still survives plenty of nasty cuts and bruises. The movie was overblown with sex and drugs, but entertaining. Watch it, you will like. The ending is very unpreditible, watch it to see who the REAL killer is.
