Rating: Summary: Classic horror film from the 1980's Review: Nightmare on Elm Street was probably one of the first horror films I ever watched and one of the most memorable. Of course, some of the sequels are entertaining, but like most horror franchises - the first is the best. The DVD version contains an ongoing documentary by the main female character, the actor who played her dad, and Wes Craven. I love commentaries on the new dvd releases and once again enjoyed hearing a lot of the behind the scenes stories about the making of the movie. The other extras on the DVD are OK - the movie script and trailer. I also like that you could watch the widescreen or regular versions. This version is "digitally remastered" which makes for a definite improvement from the old VHS version, but the film still has that "80's horror flick" look. All in all, an entertaining film and DVD worth the money.
Rating: Summary: Maailman paras kauhuelokuva (Finnish review) Review: Tämä on ehdottomasti maailman paras kauhuelokuva.
Rating: Summary: Another film I refuse to watch alone! Review: This is yet another brilliant horror flick that will keep you awake for days! Out of all of the "Nightmare" series, this first one is the best and the scariest. The tale of Nancy and her friends being stalked and butchered one by one from an unknown assailant in their dreams is one of the most creepy and orignal ideas ever to be produced in a horror film. The character of Freddy Krueger in this one is so menacing and evil that you will shudder at his enjoyment of scaring and tearing apart his victims. The scariest part for me is when Nancy finally finds out from her parents who Freddy is, and why he is doing this to her. It becomes a very twisted tale of revenge and combat! The ending of the film is still very confusing for me, but I guess they wanted to leave it open-ended in case there was a sequel. And there were six sequels, most of them too horrible to mention. If you want the best of the bunch, this is it. Good cast, great story, and a character who will make you think twice about sleeping.
Rating: Summary: The Scariest and Greatest Horror Movie ever! Classic! Review: This movie is a totally Classic! Movies like "I Know What You Did Last Summer" or "Urban Legend" can't really scare anyone. But this can! It's one of the first teen-horror-movies after classical "Halloween". Youth of the town has started to see a horrible nightmares about long-fingered monster. Some of them are dying when they are sleeping. Bravest of them, Nancy, has a plan to trap awful Freddy Krueger, but will she only get killed? This is perfect movie for watching! I watched it with my sister and do you know what happened? Next night my sister was thirsty and went to kitchen for drinking. When she got back to our room, she saw me fighting with someone when I was falled asleep. (Like in the movie!) My sister was shocked!
Rating: Summary: Best horror film of the 80s! Review: The first and best of the 7 films. It is so original and we all know what a cult star Freddy Krueger became in the late 80s. This is mildly scary and the limited humour works well. The ending is odd, but how the heroine defeats the dream stalker is ingenious. Miss this classic at your peril! No horror collection is complete without a nightmare on elm street!
Rating: Summary: What a great movie! Review: A Nighmare on Elm Street is an absolute icon of horror! If you have not seen this movie, get it now! Nancy is having nightmares, but the people who die in the nightmares, are dying in real life also! But, how do you convince your family, friends, and the police that you know about the murders before they happen, but you didnt kill them? The man behind the murders is a knife-fingered-glove wearing maniac! A great movie the first time, that gets even better every time you see it! Get it today!
Rating: Summary: One of the Best Horror Films of the 80's Review: To me, this ranks up there with "Dawn of the Dead" and "Halloween" as being one of the best horror films in a genre, and best horror films period. Not only is it one of the best, but is also seriously scary. As far as beign scary, I put it up there with "The Exorcist." It's creative and fun, and incredebly imaginitive. If you haven't seen it yet, where have you been?
Rating: Summary: One of the best horror movies of all time Review: Fred Krueger, a psychotic child murderer that was torched in his boiler room by the enraged parents of elm street. Ten years later he returns and this time he slashes kids in their dreams. This movie is fun and entertaining, no doubt Wes Craven's best movie. Unfortunately it had to be followed by a couple of try hard sequels.
Rating: Summary: If Nancy doesn't wake up screaming, she won't wake up at all Review: This is a great horror movie with a lot of suspense and a great plot. Also this PART 1 is the best of all the other sequels. If you like horror movies, then you must see this one. Needless to say that this movie is scary!
Rating: Summary: Better than Halloween on Friday the 13th! Review: This movie might not be the scariest around, as other reviewers have said, but it does have a certain flair. It's just so much better made than all these other mindless slasher flicks, Friday the 13th and Halloween included. Every dream scene looks and feels like a real nightmare with all the little details everyone knows. For example when Freddy is after the actress, she can't get away from him although she's trying to run upstairs. Another well made scene is when a girl suddenly starts wearing Freddy's famous sweater and only seconds later even his glove. Someone else said the movie was unrealistic. I'd say the shown dreams were made very realistic which gives the movie a great overall feeling and lets you forget that it's in fact "just another horror movie". If you're into Freud's dream theories this one is a must see anyways.
