Rating: Summary: Don't Fall Asleep! Review: Wes Craven revitalized the 80's horror craze by making this, one of the scariest horror films of all time. This movie gave me nightmares not to be believed, and for many months. In my opinion, it's best to avoid any of the sequels, because none of them are even remotely as scary as this. Since this movie is the most popular of the series, it's a shame the DVD didn't have more extras on it. The deleted scenes and interviews and whatever else is in the box set should have been on this disc. A lot of people like me only will buy the original, so to only get a commentary and a trailer is kind of skimpy. The video looks very good though thanks to the remastering, and the 5.1 sound is quite enveloping. The music in this movie is one of the scariest elements to the film, and hearing it in 5.1 will really test your bravery. Watch this with the lights out and the volume up.
Rating: Summary: Great movie, but....... Review: This movie scared me I'll admit, but there are some problems that evryone else seems to overlook. The stupidity on the people is almost unbearable. Oh there is a scary voice calling my name in a dark alley, I'm going to go see what it is. and Oh there is a girl getting murdered in my room, I'll just sit here and watch despite the fact that there is a phone beside the bed. Other than that, this is pretty good.
Rating: Summary: "and if i die before i wake" Review: Since I love Horror movies so much and since it has become almost comen knowlagde to any other horror fans out there that Robert Englund + Was Craven = best of the genre. I thought I'd better go pick up a copy of the original "Nightmare on Elm Street". It with the help of "Firday the 13th" did for 80's horror cinema what "Jaws", "Halloween", and the mighty "Exorcist" did for the 70's. It's about a group of teenage friends on Elm street who keep having the same nightmare over and over agian. With Fready Kurrger in them. Wating to kill them in there sleep, because a few years ago he was bruned alive by mad the kids mad parents. Berfore Fready died he was a child killer. A stand out part for me is when Nacey's(Heather Langenkamp) boyfriend(Johny Depp) is sucked into his own bed and butcherd by Fready. It never fails to send chills down my spine every time I watch it. Compelling, truly scary, classic and hypnotic are the best ways I can think to put this. Check it out!
Rating: Summary: A pretty scary movie Review: Nancy and her friends are having violent nightmares which all feature one commen element, a disfigured serial killer with a glove made of razors on his right hand. When one of the group is murdered in her sleep, Nancy realises she must stay awake and try to uncover the truth behing the phantasmic killer is Freddy Kruger.
Rating: Summary: A pretty scary movie Review: Freddy Kruger is the substance of nightmares. He always appears strangely dressed and has knives on the fingers of his right hand. A group of four teenagers all begin to have the same strange dream about Freddy and then one of them is grusomely murdered in her sleep. The survivors soon realise that if Freddy kills them in their sleep, then they will die in real life to. Thus begins an ordeal of wakefulness as they try to find some way to stop Freddy.
Rating: Summary: 1,2 Freddy is coming for you Review: I am more of a Jason Voorhees fan but after seeing a lot of his movies, I thought I could make an exception to seeing another hideous stalker. I rented this movie at Blockbuster and it was really good. It's a very ingenious idea about a man , Freddy Kruegar(Robert Engund) who wants revenge on the people who killed him by taking away their most precious gift- THEIR KIDS! and what made it more ingenious was that he did it in a place where not even the parents could save them- IN THEIR DREAMS. The only person who suspects this is a neighborhood girl, Nancy Thompson(Heather Langenkamp). She and the help of her boyfriend Glenn (Johhny Depp) try to do what they can to stop this madness. One thing that made it hard for them was staying awake. If you'll horror movies then you will like the feeling of your heart pumping 100 times a minute as Freddy stalks his victims. It will be great because when you think Nancy has finally caught Freddy, she hasn't.
Rating: Summary: Your Worst Nightmare Review: The film that put director Wes Craven on the map...Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) is a young High School student., who is having horrific nightmares. Soon she discovers that some of her friends are also having the same dreams and they are being killed while they sleep. It seems that someone from the town's past has come back from the dead, to take revenge on those folks, who murdered him some years ago. Watch out for Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund). The film appears to have a low budget quality to it that works. In fact, I think that what some may see as a negative, is actually part of its appeal. As the first film in the series, this is as usual, the best installment with the right amounts of horror and campy fun to keep it entertaining The film marks the first major role for a very young looking Jonny Depp. I have to say that other than NEW NIGHTMARE, I am not really a fan of the other sequels, which really are not all that good. The script for the first film is set up a lot like most of its fellow horror cousins of the 70s and 80s. What makes this film unique is the creative genius that is Wes Craven and Englund's Freddy. He is the character and always will be. The DVD allows you to "Jump to a Nightmare" and access Krueger at his best in the movie. The commentary track from Craven and others is pretty cool. Finally it also has a host of DVD-ROM extras for you to enjoy. I liked watching its retro-80s trailer too. NIGHTMARE certainly wont put you to sleep that's for sure. Recommended 80s classic
Rating: Summary: Freddie Kreuger's coming to get you Nancy...and your friends Review: When I watched "A Nightmare on Elm Street" on DVD it was the second time I had seen the first Freddie Krueger film and I was rather surprised to see the film was not as good as I thought it remember. However, I think that has something to do with the way horror films, not to mention all films, have become more sophisticated. What works here is the story and the way Wes Craven sets up the rules of the game (which are totally abandoned in the first sequel). There is a unique logic to Freddie's rule and the fun is how Nancy (Heather Langenkamp) and Glen (Johnny Depp) try to use them to turn the tables on the boogey man. Certainly the acting does not hold up to scrutiny with Ronee Blakley particularly hitting rock bottom after the heights of "Nashville." The special effects have their moments, both high (when Amanda gets disemboweled on the ceiling) and low (like when mom gets sucked back into the house at the end), but "Nightmare" works best when it is the power of suggestion. There are not a lot of extras on this DVD but the commentary track with Craven, Langenkamp, John Saxon and the Director of Photography (Jacques Haitkin) is above average. Obviously there are a lot of pleasant memories for these people and Craven especially takes pleasure in explaining the hows and whys of the film. We can all debate the merits of the various sequels, but certainly "A Nightmare on Elm Street" was the most innovative splatter flick to come down the road after "Halloween" revitalized the genre.
